Chapter 3
Noah’s P.O.V-Before Outbreak
School
I sped into the school gates causing a few students to jump out of the way, which made me chuckle. I think it’s highly hilarious when I nearly use my bullies as road-kill. I parked haphazardly into the spot nearest the building and hopped out, locking my car before saluting the bullies and stalking off inside.
My only destination right now would be my locker so I made my way through the crowd of students, talking and shouting. It’s not even nine in the morning and I’m getting a fucking headache… okay no, scratch that completely because upon arriving at the hallway filled with lockers, I saw my biggest headache ever. I’m so not in the mood… look at him, laughing with his silly little girlfriend. I could throw up, but I’m too tired. Ah man, just look at his disastrous wardrobe. On my approach and as I walked by him I said, sarcastically.
“Whoa, did your wardrobe throw up on you?”
He turned to me with a glare, “No, what about you what happened to your attire? Did your mumsy pick it out?” He raised an eyebrow looking over it.
“Hey, this is perfection. Remember that when you’re lousy outfits start to look old. My unique style will never get old, because it’s mine.” I smirked. He’s got good come-backs, that’s for sure ,but somehow he really makes me want to punch him. How dare he! See what I mean, such an irritating jerk. I know I started that fight and all, but come on, if you saw a wardrobe malfunction you’d be kind enough to say something.
“Perfection? Sure.” Wesley rolled his eyes, “and what about that eyeliner? Huh? You look like a raccoon that’s wearing clothing, especially with that hair. Oh my. Is your hair stylist blind?”
“Oh no you didn’t! Seriously, don’t get me started on your mop of hair. Did you brush it this morning? I’ll have you know I buy the best products for my hair. And wait… raccoons are cuddly animals, right?” I folded my arms, my intention was to walk away but, no. I’ll see this thing through to the end. I’ll win this for sure.
“Sure they’re also feisty, oh wait so are you, they’re also gross, and they jump through garbage.” He sighed, “maybe ... No it seems you sprayed too much cologne on today.”
Dammit he’s fucking mouthy this morning! I should have eaten my breakfast. I sighed… personally I like my smell. I know…
“Did you bring your rust bucket this morning?”
“I’ll have you know that my car is perfectly fine.” He said and looked at me in the eyes, “Yours is just too.... classy? and boring yup it’s boring and unoriginal, it has no story. As mine does.”
I sucked the air in through my teeth, not angrily more like playful. I know my car is so much better than his. “Wesley, don’t get jealous it’s sinful.” My smirk grew wider upon seeing his expression.
“You think I’m jealous?” He smiled, “Nope, I am not. At least I have close friends.”
Ouch… fuck. Okay, that’s really mean. My smirk decided to abandon me then too and then replaced itself with slight rage. I glanced over at Allison and then back, threatening.
“Watch it, I swear to fucking god.”
“Swear to him what?” Wesley asked looking up at me, It was a little funny how much shorter he was than myself.
“Wesley stop it.” Allison stepped in “ That’s enough, you two are acting like five year olds, and it’s obvious you to are a alike.” With that she walked away. Leaving us there standing in the middle of the hall slightly shocked.
“Take it back.” I demanded quietly, staring down at him. I could feel the anger bubbling within the pit of my stomach. My heart ached with how much that statement hurt.
“Allison never takes back what she means.” He sighed, grimacing as he thought about what she had said. “Maybe it’s true.”
“I’m not on about what your little girlfriend said, I know I’m nothing like you, you idiot. I meant take back that cheap comment about my friends.” I scowled angrily, this isn’t a nice feeling… I feel quite sick.
“For one Allison is not my girlfriend, she happens to be Zackary Test’s girlfriend.” He told me, “And why should I, give me a reason to take back my cheap comment, because it’s kind of true. I see the way your friends treat each other. Just....” He paused and looked away, “ We need to get to Art.”
I glanced around the now empty hallway, wow… I didn’t even hear the bell. I pulled my bag up onto my shoulder and sighed, lifting my sunglasses from my face as I said quietly, walking away. “Sorry, I guess.”
“It’s fine I’m use to it.” He looked down at the floor as he followed slowly behind me because we were heading in the same direction.
“I kinda meant about making you late, but whatever.” I shrugged, grinning a little as I glanced behind me. Sometimes, his expressions can be adorable… wait, what? NO, no they cannot. He dissed your car, remember? This is going to be one long day, I can see it. My headache is getting worse, and now I have to suffer art.
“You should go get some pain meds and water, you look like you have a headache.” He shrugged, wait was he trying to be nice? I halted again and he sauntered passed me. This is terribly confusing.
“Yeah… I do. Um… this is going to sound lame now, but will you cover for me? Whilst I see the school nurse?”
Wesley looked at me for a moment, “ Give me your book bag and I’ll explain to the teacher why you’re late. It’s not like Mr. Grant actually cares if we’re late.” He sighed, “ You should know that by now, you are a senior.”
“Pfft, seriously, you actually think I take notice of my teachers and their bad habits? Dude, please.” I chuckled as I handed him my school bag, then added. “I’ll be back soon. Don’t miss me too much.”
“Don’t get drowned in a pool or something.” He chuckled at the thought then took the school bag and swung it over his shoulder. “Then I wouldn’t have someone to argue with.”
As I walked backwards, I smiled. “You know you love that the best.”
He gave me the finger, then laughed, “ Sure Mason.”
I gave him a sarcastic bow, then saluted him… but for some reason my eye figured it’d be a great idea to wink at him too. What the hell is going on today? It’s a really bad day, it has to be, the sun was shining.
He bowed like a princess for a joke then turned and walked to art class. I don’t know why, but I waited until he’d disappeared before turning back the way I’d come, and heading off into the direction of the nurses station. I don’t really understand how a school building is supposed to function and such but… it’s suddenly become quite cold, and yet it’s warm outside.
I ignored that feeling though and walked ahead, coming to a set of double mahogany doors. The light above me flickered which sent a chill down my spine. I don’t tend to scare easily but this kind of shit freaks me out. I hate schools when they’re this creepy, I should stop watching horror movies based in schools really. My mom told me that too. Ah… here it is. I gazed at the sign next to a single wooden door. Nurse Andrews is today’s medical help… great, she’s a cow. Something weird though… The blind on the door window was down, when it’s usually up. Perhaps someone is in there already. Oh well, since when have I been patient? I knocked on the door and heard a slightly muffled groan… confused, I knocked again this time, I called out.
“Nurse Andrews, I need a few minutes.”
Silence… Okay that’s it, I’m going in. I wish Wesley had have come, he could have gone in first. I lowered the handle and peeked inside, Nurse Andrews is a big woman and usually her hair is scraped back in a bun and she’d be glaring at me right now, except… Her back was to me, and she was slightly hunched over. I tread cautiously.
“Um… I need some painkillers and a cup water, please. It’s for a head…”
Oh my god… is that… blood? Forgetting the fact that this woman scares the big cheese out of me, I ran over thinking that she was hurt but that was actually an understatement. I froze in horror, seeing a large chunk missing from the front of her leg, and as my eyes wandered upwards I became dizzy with fear… my goodness, she’s actually feasting off of her own flesh… that’s disgusting. Suddenly I was well aware of how close I was, and I backed away slowly… only she hissed at me, launching herself from the table where she’d been perched, and attacked me. I tried to fight her off without causing damage but… she’s already damaged, she’s eating herself. With tears swimming in my eyes, I gave her an almighty shove and whispered in shock. “I’m sorry.” Then I made a break for it, my only thought was getting to Wesley… god only knows what’s happening at that side of the school.
I burst through those mahogany doors again, only to discover that there was a trail of blood along the walls, papers flung around the floors… what the hell is going on? Surely this can't happen in a few minutes… can it? I hugged myself tightly, scanning the areas upcoming… if there are more things like that nurse, then… where the fuck are they?
Finally I saw one of my ‘friends’ Wesley had mentioned before… his name being Curtis Matthews… I approached and wasted no time. “Curt, we have to…”
“Grrrr!”
“FUCK!” I pushed him from me as he’d spun around and placed his hands around my throat. “Fuck this shit, I’m gone!” I pulled a fire extinguisher from the wall and smashed it over his head, causing him to explode with blood. I frowned at first, then gave a slight nod at my new weapon and proceeded to the art room.
I stepped up to the door and peered in through the glass window… okay, everything looks normal here. That’s so weird. I burst through the door, ignoring the glares and instantly approached Wesley.
“Get up, we need to leave, right now!”
He looked up at me, then out of the window of the door, and immediately stood up, He grabbed his phone and keys leaving the rest, “Lets go.” He nodded and looked up at me, amazingly he didn't question me, “But out the back door.” He pointed to the door to the outside from the art room. Everyone just looked at us confused.
“Where on earth do you boys think you’re going?” Mr. Charles questioned us. We halted at the back door, and I spoke, gazing upon them.
“Getting out of here, and if you’re actually smart, you’ll do the same.” With that I took Wesley’s hand and lead him out of the art building and toward the parking lot… halting when we got to my car. “I’m not leaving without this. So it looks like you follow me or bare it and get it.”
“Screw my car.” He said then jumped in the passengers seat of my car.
I didn't have much time to be confused or amazed… I ran around the drivers side, only as I did that I felt something hard slam down on the back of my head… I fell to the ground and then everything became blurry. I only saw shadows… but before my vision turned black, I shouted. “Run Wesley!”
There was silence.
