Chapter 1

Nobody's P.O.V

The sun hung high in the blue, cloudless sky. Birds were singing, flowers were blooming, one days like this, humans and monsters should be out out relaxing and taking a swim in the river. The tall, metal walls of the surviver our warriors live in stood tall and proud. For years they had protected the survivors within, and today they still stand. As it has been for the sixty years that those walls had stood, survivors worked away. Some on the vast fields of crops of all shapes and sizes, some works in the river, catching fish and purifying the sweet source of life. Some worked with livestock, keeping the food an available variety.

Some worked just outside the walls, harvesting resources of all kinds and delivering them through large rusty trucks. Some taught the ones too young to work, giving them a bright future in these walls. Some had a more violet job, guarding the rusty walls with long-ranged guns in hand. There were so many jobs and so many possibilities to help make life a little easier in this already paradise. Though of course, no good thing comes without a little chaos.

In a small area of stalls selling all kinds of goods, there was a large explosion of rainbow dust. Two cloaked trouble makers ran away from the explosion, both laughing as they were pursued by the owner who they had stolen from. The stall owner, a human, was covered in the colourful dust from the explosion, and they were not happy about being robbed. The two robbers were holding some fruit, a higher quality then the ones usually given for free. They were able to outrun the stall owner.

"Man, those potions of yours really work!" the thief in the black cloak said.

"Well of course they do! I was the one who made them!" the thief draped in the red cloak boasted.

The two stopped when they reached the tent area, which at the time was full of people wondering and chatting happily.

"Dude, we should use your potions more often." The black cloaked thief admitted.

The red cloaked thief smiled a toothy, proud smile. "Why of course!"

The two couldn't rest for long, however. Two of the local police, if you could call them that, started charging after them.

"Whoops! Gotta dash!" The red cloaked thief said, running off once again.

"Hey! Don't leave me behind!"

The two ran through the maze of tents, trying to get away from their new pursuers. Both police were skeletons, tall and strong. One looked to be in his early forties, he had mismatched eye lights and a serious look on his face. The other looked about eighteen, clearly new to his job, he shared a striking resemblance to the older skeleton with his equally serious expression. The two thieves were smiling, as if they had already won this race.

All four were fast, the two police being faster. But the thieves seemed to have a plan. As the local survivors saw this chase, they quickly ran back to their tents to avoid getting stuck in it. The red cloaked thief took three flasks off his belt, which hid many others under his cloak. The jumped into the air, surprisingly high, did a spin and threw the flasks accurately at the police. They hit their targets dead on and they exploded into red smoke. The police stopped, coughing. The thieves laughed to themselves, continuing to run.

"Can you believe they fell for that again?" the red cloaked thief scoffed.

"Is your father your idea of a pun?"
They laughed again. The red smoke cleared and the police continued chasing. Luckily for them, a kind local quickly offered two strong, brown horses. The police thanked the local and hopped onto the horses, instantly going full speed towards the no good thieves. Now they were in trouble, but they kept their cocky smiles of victory. The two split up at an intersection, and so did the police. The younger police ran after the black cloaked thief, whilst the other went after the red cloaked thief. And so, the game of chase continued.

The red cloaked thief had exited the tent area and gone into the fields of crops. He was running on a straight dirt path between the fields surrounded by wooden fences. This seemed like an advantage to the horse-riding policeman, but the thief wouldn't be so easily captured. Just as the thief was in arms reach, he did a mighty hurdle jump over the fence. Unfortunately, the horse the policeman was riding did not have the training to leap over a fence like that. It bucked up on it's hind legs, neighing a loud, panicked cry. The policeman had to jump off and calm the horse. Whilst he did that, the red cloaked thief disappeared into the tall wheat crops.

Meanwhile, the younger skeleton was in hot pursuit of the black cloaked thief. They had made it out of the tent area and into a grassy, flat area around the river. Across the river was a forest, where trees stood proud and animals ran wild. Almost as wild as the two thieves. The black cloaked thief knew where he was going. He had done this dozens of times before, and he was going to do it again.

"You know how this will work out!" the black cloaked thief yelled. "You might as well give up now!"

The policeman huffed and gave the horse a firm, but not painful, kick to it's side. The horse took the command and went as fast as it possibly could. It was a blazing speed and they were gaining on the thief fast. But the thief wasn't planning on getting caught that easily. He took a great leap into the air and swung his arms. Being made of black goop, his arms stretched out and gave the policeman a hard whack. The policeman flew off the horse, landing the river water. The thief laughed mockingly and the horse skid across the grass as it put on it's brakes. The thief ran across the river, sticking his tongue out at the policeman before fleeing into the forest.

"Can you believe that they fell for that same trick?" The red cloaked thief asked, taking a bite out of a freshly stolen pear.

"They'll never learn." The black cloaked thief agreed.

The two thieves were sitting high in the branches of a tree. The red cloaked thief threw the black cloaked thief an apple, which he caught and took a big bite out of. They both brushed the hoods off their heads, revealing that they were both skeletons. The one with the black cloak was a little taller, with a black crown on his head. The crown had a small crescent moon symbol. The other seemed younger. His teeth were like fangs and his eye lights were mismatched. He also had two black markings on his cheekbones, ones that had been there since birth.

"So, Sage," the black cloaked skeleton started. "what are we going to tell our parents when Cross and Lucid rat us out again?"

Sage shrugged. "We could stay here like we did last time for the next week. It's up to you if you want to worry our parents, Moon."
Moon laid back on the tree's trunk, closing his eye sockets. "I doubt my parents will care. They certainly don't act like it. Yours, however, will freak out no matter how many times we stay out in the forest."

"Maybe."

Sage continued munching on his pear, the juice dripping down and coating his chin. Moon sighed and stood up.

"What's wrong?" Sage asked.

"Why do we wear this if everyone already knows who he are?" Moon asked, tossing his cloak off onto another branch.

"I dunno. It looks cool when we're running away." Sage replied, removing his cloak, too.

"You two look just as stupid with a cloak on as you do without one."

The two thieves looked up and saw the younger policeman hanging upside down from a higher branch, an unimpressed expression on his face.

"Lucid? How did you find us?" Sage asked, surprised.

"What, you think I would let you guys get away without a plan? No, I've been studying your movements every time you cause trouble." Lucid replied. "Now, you're both coming with me."

"Nope!" Sage jumped off the branch, down to the ground.

Moon went to jump, too. But Lucid tackled him onto a lower branch and bound his hands with strong rope. Moon cursed under his breath. Down on the ground, Sage went to run. But, the older policeman jumped out of the bushes and tackled Sage to the ground, also bounding his hands. Lucid lowered himself and Moon to the ground.

"Great job, Lucid!" The older skeleton congratulated, smiling.

Lucid smiled back. "Thanks, dad."

"Aw come on, uncle Cross." Moon complained. "Can't you let us get away with this just once?"

The older skeleton, Cross, shook his head in disappointment. "You two have caused enough trouble. Come on, you're returning the stolen fruit and going back to your parents."

The two trouble makers groaned in annoyance and defeat.

Ah yes, the delightful second generation of the warriors. Just a pleasant little bunch, aren't they?
