A Happy End
Nobody's P.O.V
Ah, Christmas eve. The time where people decide to give their gifts out because they just can't wait for the proper date to give them away. Oh well, that's life out in this zombie wasteland, I suppose. Where was I? Oh yes, gift giving. Our group of warriors were excited to give their gifts away. Most of them had managed to rustle up enough money to buy something for the one they held closest. Everyone thought it would be great to exchange gifts in the same place. Of course, there were some who couldn't because of their jobs, but they were able to swap gifts a later on.
The first real pair of the story, Horror and lust. Horror had just managed to buy Lust a box of chocolates, which were expensive and hard to find nowadays. Lust was quite satisfied with the gift, happily sharing some with Horror. Almost giving everyone a heart attack, Lust pulled out a large axe. Horror, not surprisingly, loved this gift. As his last axe had been broken, it was the best thing he could've gotten. Both of them then proceeded to have a heated makeup session in front of everyone, because they're weird. So Error used his strings to toss them back into their tent while everyone else continued.
Next was Sci and Fell. Both had talked the day before about how they were unsure on what to give each other. So they just agreed that their love was the greatest gift they could give. Everyone agreed to that logic. Yes, they discussed that they could not buy each other a gift, because they're weird.
Dream and Cross agreed that they would give each other gifts later on, after everyone else. So that meant that Nightmare and Killer were next. But at the time, Killer was busy defending the wall, so it was the next pair again. Ink and Error, probably the most resent pair to be declared lovers. Error gave Ink a scarf that he had knitted himself from his strings. Ink loved it, putting it on instantly. Ink gave Error some new knitting needles, which were better quality to what Ink could make for him. Both were quite happy. Too happy. Ink ended up throwing up black paint again, because they're weird.
Up next, Reaper and Geno. Reaper hadn't gotten Geno anything, because he wasn't expecting to be part of any exchange. Geno shoved his gift into Reaper's hands before covering his face with his scarf. The gift was a scythe, which could retract into a smaller version for easy transport. Reaper liked this gift, remembering how untouchable he was with a scythe when it came to fighting zombies. As his gift to Geno, he gave him a nice, quick kiss, right on the teeth. Geno was so flustered after that, he ran off to hide his embarrassment and Reaper just laughed. Because they're weird.
Then it was Blueberry's and Dust's turn. Another unexpected pairing. Around the time when his spine had fully healed, Dust had gone out into the wasteland with FC, who he requested for. He came back two weeks later, seemingly with nothing. But he had a smile of victory on him. Dust gave Blueberry one of the most touching gifts. An old picture of Blueberry and his brother, both smiling together, happy as ever. Blueberry burst into tears of happiness when he saw the picture and flung his arms around Dust. The two ended up having their first kiss then and there. Again, in front of everyone, because they're weird.
A little while later, Killer was done with his shift and was ready for his gift exchange with Nightmare. He had ready a small heart locket, empty so that Nightmare could take a picture and put it inside himself. Nightmare's "gift" wasn't revealed to the others. He simply leaned closer to Killer and whispered something into his non-existent ear. Something that made Killer's face completely red with blush. Why?
Because they're weird.
Our big group of happy weirdos. Ones who would continue to live out they're weird little lives in peace. But, before we get to that, there's still one more gift exchange left.
After being told to meet at their tent about an hour before Cross started work, Dream arrived there. It was dark now. Cross worked as a night guard on the wall, along with Dust. The crickets were chirping into the night sky, owls hooted as they flew over the peaceful camp. Some animals, like rabbits and possums, came down to the river within the walls for a quick drink. Dream and Cross were fortunate enough to get a tent close to the river, where they could listen to the flowing water as they fell asleep.
Dream unzipped their tent, crawled in, then zipped it back up behind him. Cross was sitting in the tent, lit up by the dim flashlight at his feet. There was a very clear lump in his jacket, where he was hiding something. The two of them smiled softly at each other.
"Hey, Dreamy." Cross greeted.
Dream sat down in front of Cross. "Hey Crossy."
"I have a gift for you. Close your eyes and I'll put it in your lap."
Dream was just a little confused, but did as Cross said. He heard Cross unzip his jacket, taking out whatever he was hiding inside it. He then felt something furry be lowered into his lap, about the size of a football. It was moving. Breathing.
"Ok, you can open your eyes now." Cross said quietly.
Dream opened his eye sockets and examined his gift. What he saw filled him with surprise and pure happiness. A small, sleeping, absolutely beautiful German Shepherd pup.
"I know nothing can replace Buddy." Cross said. "But...I thought I could get you another friend. He's quite affectionate and calm. I've never heard him bark. I thought he would be perfect for you."
Dream had one hand over his mouth and the other slowly petting the little puppy. He had tears in his eye sockets. He was so happy.
"Cross...I...I don't know what to say..." Dream let out.
Cross shook his head and cupped Dream's cheekbone. "You don't need to say anything, my dearest."
"Cross...I..." Dream took a deep breath. "I'm so sorry...I couldn't get you a gift..."
Cross' sweet smile only grew. "I don't need a gift to know you love me, Dreamy. Your love is all I could ask for."
Dream took a moment to think. Then he looked up at Cross.
"Maybe...there is something I have, that could be considered a gift."
Cross raised his non-existent eyebrow. "Oh? What would that be?"
Another deep breath. Dream summoned his soul and hesitantly showed Cross the tiny souling orbiting around it. It took a while for Cross to realise what he was looking at.
"You're...you're pregnant?"
Dream nodded slowly. "Yes..."
To Dream's surprise and relief, tears formed in Cross' eye sockets and he flung his arms around Dream, whilst still being careful not to hurt the pup that still sat in his lap.
"I can't believe it!" Cross said. "I'm going to be a father!"
Dream yelped in surprise as Cross pulled him into the bed. The two laid side by side, the little pup still fast asleep in the middle of them. The two of them exchanged a loving kiss. They couldn't of been happier. After a bit of getting themselves back together, Cross asked Dream what he would name the little pup.
"I think I'll name him...Davian." Dream replied.
"Davian?"
"It means 'beloved'. It was my second choice for Buddy. I think it suits him, because he was a gift from my beloved."
The both smiled at each other yet again. They were certainly the happiest of the group. Nobody before them could've loved each other more then these two.
And so, the end of our story is here. Everyone gets their wonderful, happy ending. Over their years at the camp, the pairs started having children of their own. And no matter how old they got, the group never strayed away from their friendship. They were as close as close could be, always willing to help one another, always offering their shoulder to cry on when one was having a hard day. They didn't hear anything from FC after the first year at the camp. There were, however, reports of a small budgie flying around the wall. Whenever it would see someone from the group, it would chirp a quick 'hello' before flying away again. Nobody was able to catch him. Slippery little fella he was.
They hope that this was a satisfying end to the story. Perhaps, their children could continue it. But that is for another day. For now, they enjoy the relaxing sound of the flowing river, as the sun sets on another day of their happy lives.
~~~The End~~~
