"Five, hey, Five," Luther knocks on the window of the van before opening the door and struggling to get in.
After a half hour of walking, the three of you made it to the building. You were the first one to spot the rundown van parked in the corner of the street.
You and Klaus open the back door while Five was distracted and hop in.
"What are you..." Luther mutters, have a hard time closing the door on his large frame. The entire van move and creaks with movement from him.
"You okay," Luther asks, finally sitting comfortable in the small space.
"You shouldn't be..." Five trails his eyes over Luther, leaning closer to stare at him quizzically. "How did you find me?"
"Um..." Luther cocked his head back to you and Klaus.
Five turns in his seat.
The way his face softens the slightest bit gives you butterflies and you nervously smile. "Hi."
Ew, I just went soft.
"Y-You can't be here," Five stutters and you see the tips of his ears burn red. "I'm in the middle of something."
Klaus brings you up closer to Five and Luther. "Any luck finding your one-eyed man?"
"No," Five whispers as if Luther isn't right next to him.
"What's he talking about?"
You send Luther a smile. "It's Klaus, who really knows."
Klaus gives your stomach a jab and you flinch, glaring at him.
If he-
"What do you want, Luther," Five asks, eyes trailing the streets.
"Um..."
Get on with it.
"So, Grace may have had something to do with dad's death. So I need you to come back to the academy, alright? It's important."
"You have not idea what's important," Five sneers, lips pulling into a snarl. You get a random thought while looking at his mouth.
Would he be in a better mood if we fu-
No, most likely not, the world is ending.
"Hey!" Klaus raises a finger, eyes twitching weirdly. "Did I ever tell you guys about the time I waxed my ass with chocolate pudding?"
"Okay!" You loudly stop him from continuing with a harsh shove. You grab his coat and start tugging him out of the van. "I'll see you guys at home, okay?"
"Yeah," Luther says while there's no response from Five.
Klaus wanders towards a store, the opposite way from the house. "I want food," he mumbles, stumbling into the convenience store. You have no choice but to follow him.
He pick bag after bag and candy after candy even when he can't hold any more items. "Klaus, I only have twenty dollars," you look at the mound of stuff in his arms. "That doesn't looks like twenty bucks."
He bunches up the food close to him so he can raise a finger to his lips. "Shh, I'll pay for it."
You raise an eyebrow. "You have money?"
He sends you a horribly hidden wink. "Have you met me," he scoffs.
You face falls as the realization hits you.
He's gonna steal.
You muster your deepest sigh. "I have."
You look around the store: there's the cashier and one other guy in the store. You look at the bag of chips in your hand.
"Wait, let me pay for these first."
You take out the twenty dollar bill from your jeans and place the bag onto the cashier's counter.
"That'll be two-fifteen-"
"I'll pay for her stuff," a male voice cuts in.
You turn and see a man with dark brown eyes and long brown hair pulled into a bun. He gives you a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. "Here," he hands over a five dollar bill to the cashier and-
That voice.
Where did you hear that voice? Your eyes narrow as you scan the man. You snap out of your trance as he hands over the bag of chips to you.
"Save up your money to buy something nice for your boyfriend," he says.
"My b-"
'Don't tell him about me, would ya?'
"R-Right, thanks."
Holy fuck.
It's the man who shot at you in the store. Why hadn't you realized it as soon as he spoke?
And why isn't he trying to hide?
You gulped almost forgetting how to walk straight as you headed over to Klaus. You stumbled over your feet.
"Y/n," Klaus called, nudging you with his shoulder since his hands were full. "You ready?" He sent you a wicked grin.
You looked back to the cash register and see the man gone. He wasn't hiding from you, and he was so blatant to talk to you.
Why?
When you finally nodded to Klaus, he was already out the door, being chased down the streets, dropping every item in his hands.
It takes every ounce of energy you have to not face-palm.
Never a dull moment with the Hargreeves.
