Your Point of View:
As soon as we were done with interviews, it was already the next day... literally. I probably had bags under my eyes, my makeup might have been smudged... it was a LONG interview time. All the parents had left, except for Hayden of course. As soon as we were done with interviews, we headed up to our rooms, and Cadenza and I crashed on our beds, before having to get up AGAIN to get ready for bed. I took off all my makeup, put on my pajamas, and brushed my teeth. I instantly fell asleep, the feeling of sleep overtaking me.
~Time Skip~~
It was 10:00 by the time I got up. Cadenza was still asleep. I decided on taking a shower, so I got my second pair of clothes, and went into the bathroom. As I took a shower, I could hear voices above me.
"That's so not fair." someone grumbled. "How could a band from the same school win, and us not even get in the Top 10?"
"Zane, calm down."
"HOW CAN I? He's my BROTHER. And she's OUR COACH." that was definitely Zane.
"So what? We tried, and we got to perform in Battle of the Bands."
"So what? We didn't win."
"You're acting like a sore loser."
"HEY!"
"I'm your friend, it's my job to tell you that."
"Whatever. I'm going to make sure I get my revenge."
"You know what? I hate this, Zane."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, you think you're all this. What happened to the Zane I knew before, huh? You used to be care-free, now look at you. Caring about revenge, and popularity! Why?"
"What's happening in here?" I heard a girl... Sasha.
"Nothing." Zane grumbled.
"Definitely something, loudmouth." she scoffed.
"I'm tired of Zane acting like a narcissistic rat!" Zenix screamed.
"That's harsh." Sasha snickered.
"I am not narcissistic!" I covered my mouth from laughing.
"You are, and I've had enough! As soon as we get back, I want you to stop being this way, Zane. You're setting yourself up for trouble! I hope you know that!"
"What do you mean I'm setting myself up for trouble?! I am not!"
"YOU ARE! The more you act like a child, trying to get revenge on (F/N), the more wicked you're becoming!"
"He's not wrong." Sasha backed Zenix up.
"WHAT?" Zane roared.
"I'm tired of doing everything for you. (F/N) has bodyguards, you know. She has support. But you don't. At least not from me anymore. I'm not taking the blame anymore." Sasha stomped her foot.
"Me neither, Zane. You've done enough." I heard a door open, and a faint:
"We're going to Vincent's room. See ya."
"WHAT? NO!" I turned off the shower, and dried myself off. I put on my clothes, and dried off my hair with towels. I walked out, and Cadenza was getting up.
"Morning." I giggled.
"When did you get up?"
"Meh, maybe 10 minutes ago. By the way, the shampoo in there is amazing." I sighed.
"Sweet. OK, cool. What time is it? 10:15? OK." she got up, and stretched. I continued drying my hair, and left it down. I guess I could just let it air-dry. No problem with that. I put on some mascara and lip-gloss, and I felt normal. Literally, all I was wearing was a (F/C) t-shirt, and jeans, and some (F/C) tennis shoes. I also decided to put on the silver necklace with my first initial on it, and the Phoenix Drop bracelet and watch. Everything else I packed up, and then I was pretty much ready to go. Cadenza was also ready by the time the clock hit 11:00. We heard a knock on the door, and I answered it. It was Hayden.
"Hey girls, did you sleep well?"
"Yeah." we both answered.
"OK, so the guys are ready, and it looks like you two are ready too. Cool! We were just start heading back, and then we could find a place for brunch, and then start heading back to the school. We'll be back before dinner-time, so yeah."
"Cool. Yeah, we can start doing that now. We're all packed up."
"Sweet!" we grabbed our bags, and checked again to make sure we didn't forget anything. We were clear, and I got out my phone. I got a call from my mom.
"Hey Mom." I smiled.
"Hey honey! So, when do you think you're going to be back?"
"Hayden said before dinner-time for sure, so around 3-4?"
"OK! Cool! So, how was the night?"
"All we did was sleep, but the beds were really soft." I giggled.
"Alright, glad you're having a good time. I'll see you later, yeah?"
"Yeah! Bye!" she hung up, and the guys came out with their things.
"We're good to go?" they asked us.
"Yeah." Cadenza replied. We turned in our hotel keys, and headed to the van. We loaded up the instruments, and then got into the van. As we drove back, I couldn't help but think about what Zane, Zenix, and Sasha were talking about. Then, Hayden found an IHOP, so we had brunch there. Then, we set out on our journey home. As we were there, I still thought about what they had said. I mean, they knew that he was controlling them... why weren't they doing anything about it? Was it just so hard to say, "stop"?
"(F/N), you're lost in thought." Dante snapped his fingers in front of my face, and I jumped back. "Ha ha!"
"If I could tackle you I would!" I stuck my tongue out, "But, I heard something above me while I was getting ready today. I think the room above us was Zane and Zenix... maybe even Sasha too."
"Really?"
"Yeah... Zenix and Sasha were confronting Zane... about being self-centered." Garroth's eyes widened,
"W-What? They've... they've... never done that before." he looked down.
"Garroth... do you know something?" Laurence asked him.
"Well, I wouldn't say I knew something... more like I overheard something."
"Huh?" Dante looked at him confused.
"Well, one time Zane was taking a shower, and his friends were in the other room. I was in my room, and then as he was taking a shower, they started talking. The only reason I could hear them was because Zane's room is next to Vylad and I's, so yeah. Anyways, they were talking how mean and weird Zane was, and I couldn't help but feel a little mad. I mean, they're his friends, and it made me feel bad they were talking behind his back. But then, then they started describing all of the self-centered things he's done. Like, when he used to hate this guy at the school. He moved later, but Zane was so jealous, that he went to pour green paint all over the guy."
"Oh my..." Cadenza covered her mouth.
"Yeah. And then I didn't feel so bad after that, since I understood where they were coming from. They were all so scared, that sometimes I would have to talk to them, and they would tell me about how creepy Zane was in his sleep. He laughed in his sleep, he talked in his sleep... that's why he doesn't normally host sleepovers anymore."
"Wow." Dante shook his head, "I remember when he did pour paint on someone's head? Wasn't Zenix blamed for it?"
"Yep." Garroth replied.
"Wow." Laurence repeated, "I can't believe that."
"I had to protect them, so I would tell Principal Aphmau, and she would find some way to punish him without mentioning my name. But, I know now his target is us." he sighed, "And he's not going to stop until he gets his way."
"That's... that's awful." Cadenza commented, "That's terrible."
"It is." Garroth chuckled, "I've been living with him my whole life... I would know how terrible it is. I feel like he's always intimidated by me."
"Why?" I asked him.
"Because, the things that I do... lead me to success. I wish he would look up to that, rather than other things. I wish Zane would've learned like me... to know that no matter what, what you do now, really makes an impact in the future. You know, Zane hasn't gotten any college letters... I started getting them when I was in Freshman year. He doesn't know that he can do it if he really tells himself he can. It upsets me as a brother to see him so caught up in a web of the present, he doesn't worry about the future, at all. He thinks that everything... that everything will come to him like that."
"Garroth... you shouldn't be upset."
"You're right, I shouldn't. But I do feel like intimidation has always been a part of his problem, and now seeing Vylad as a part of our family... he's even more threatened. Do you know why I rejected video games one night, Laurence? I was taking Zane out for bowling, to try and get something out of him... I've tried for so many years to get him to open up, for him to know that I'm here to help him..."
"That's... that makes sense." Laurence chuckled, "But, that's really nice of you to do."
"I want to change him. But, I feel as if he's too far down the path of destruction to change his opinion. I... I don't even know where he got these traits. I used to think it came from Sasha and Zenix and Polly, but they're successful, grade and activity-wise. I've seen it with my own eyes."
"I think he's bringing himself down." I replied, "I mean, thinking he's better is his way of showing, "Look what I've done. It may not be an A, or it may not be an activity, but I'm cool, and everything can be about me."
"That's true." Dante replied. "That's actually really true."
"But, why?" Garroth asked me, "I just want him to change his decisions before something bad happens."
"Maybe that's something you should ask him. I don't know his reasoning... for all you know he could have a logical reason that no one's heard."
"Zane? Logical?" Laurence looked at me confused, "I'm sorry, but he hasn't shown anything logical. From making Polly and Sasha hurt you, to trying to sabotage you in Cooking, according to Cadenza and Garroth..."
"Maybe he's mixed. I... I don't want to accept anyone's bad, especially at my school." I shrugged. "But, he has been wrong. If no one's going to confront him, then I will."
"Really?" Garroth looked at me concerned. "But, what if..."
"What if what? He does something to try and hurt me? He can't hurt me without being blamed for it himself... I know that's a fact."
"You're... you're right." Cadenza exclaimed, "If you were to say privately, then... then he couldn't blame ANYONE for HIS actions."
"Exactly... but Zane's pretty stubborn, sorry Garroth." I giggled.
"Yeah, I know." he rolled his eyes, before chuckling.
"Kiddos, we're at our destination!" Hayden smiled.
"Ooh! Where... the bowling alley?"
"Yep! Follow me!" we went out of the van, and into the alley. We walked over, and I could see some people we knew.
"Dad?" I could hear Garroth exclaim.
"Surprise!" everyone except us shouted.
"What... what's this?" Cadenza laughed.
"We wanted to throw you guys a congrats party for getting 1st!" Hayden laughed.
"Really?" Laurence jumped around, "YES! You guys are the best!"
"Glad you like it!" my mom smiled.
"Mom! Dad!" I laughed, "Ha ha!"
"Let's have fun!" Dante laughed along with me. We all ran up to the desk, and got our shoes, and then went into an alley. Vylad tagged along for the party, so we let him join our alley. The day continued to be a blast, especially when we ordered pizza and sundaes. I could see my mom with her phone, alongside Marie.
"We're gonna take some photos!" my mom smiled.
"Smile guys!" Marie giggled. They looked like they became friends... easily at that. I could see Hayden, Garte, and my dad talking, and everyone was really happy... and that made me happy.
