chapter one, struggle — act one, the reunion

2 months after                  Location: Avengers Compound,
Upstate, New York
                                                                                May 18, 2016

"I'M NOT THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO WATCH THEIR BACK."

Natasha stated to the one and only Tony Stark as she made her way out. She spares him one more glance and started to walk away, while thoughts consumed her head. She played this whole thing wrong. This whole pick-a-side thing was incredibly stupid, to begin with, they should have talked it out like the grown adults they are.

They were her family, well that's what she thought. If she gave more thought to it, the avengers were more coworkers than family to begin with but she still loved them regardless of their disagreements. Both sides were wrong but she picked the side that made the best sense to her but what did it cost?

Everything.

That's what it cost. Fuck all this fighting over a stupid pile of paper. This was the separation of her family. All the things she did just so her family can be together. But she should have known by now that nothing lasts forever.

A bunch of questions consumed her head, like what she is going to do now? Where was she going to go? Being on a run is not fun, with the constant reminder that you need to look over your shoulder. Here she was at the exit at a place she once considered home, opening the door to exit was a nerve racking feeling.

Gosh, when did everything go wrong? Was it her fault? It can't be because she worked so hard so she can be better, so she can be with her family but it just was not meant to be.

With one last quick glance at the compound, she starts to walk away. She did not realize the tears trying to come out of her eyes. It just seems that no matter what she does or says she is not destined to be happy. But how can she be? When she has so much red in her.

Walking around, she realized that she was already on the streets of New York. Just walking and hearing the traffic gave her a sense of peacefulness or some type of comfort. Heading to Hell's Kitchen where she had an apartment that nobody knew about. She couldn't help think about the fact that she had a secret apartment in case things go wrong. It's like she knew from the beginning that this moment, this feeling, will not last.

Arriving there, she took out her gun and slowly opened the door to her apartment. It may have not been publicly announced that she, a former avenger, is now an international criminal, but she had to make sure no one was there to arrest her or possibly kill her.

Slowly she went to the kitchen and noticed a yellow sticky note, with a phone number and with a sentence 'call me as soon as you see this.' She could not help but feel wary of the situation, heading straight to the left drawer on the side of the sink. She took out a disposable phone and dialed the number.

"Romanoff it's about goddamn time you called, I have been waiting forever."

Her mind couldn't process it. She never thought it would be him, as she hadn't heard from him in a while.

"Fury."

"I don't have much time. Look I just thought you should hear it from me before hearing it somewhere else, umm something happened to Emily."

Sadness washed over Natasha, yes she and her sister have not been on speaking terms for awhile but that does not mean that the care she has for her is gone.

"I know that I can not talk about this over the phone but I need to see her before I go.'"

She just hoped Fury would let her see her older sister one last time.

"Okay I'll send you the address but as soon as you get it, get rid of this phone, see you soon."

With that Fury hung up, and Natasha grabbed her go-bag under the sink and a few amounts of cash that she had and headed her way out.
