Chapter 8

how's your day been so far?

Jungkook

When he entered the shower, he closed his eyes as he felt the hot liquid hit his face and sear his skin. Jungkook let out a blissful sigh as he quickly became submerged in a cloud of steam, and he placed both his hands against the wall in front of him as he allowed the water to flow down his body.
He reached out for the pink, raspberry shampoo and squeezed out a sizeable handful of the sparkling substance before massaging it into his roots; his hands faltered, when he recalled his last conversation with the manager, the period of blankness in between, and waking up outside in the snow around 200 miles away from the factory.

Hoseok had asked him for a favour. What had he agreed to do?

It didn't matter at the moment. He had to find a way back, so he could ask himself. He could ask over the phone, but unless he had booked an appointment, a conversation with the manager over call was unlikely. Jimin had probably rung the company by now anyway, and informed them of his absence, so he reckoned they would have sent for someone to pick him up.

During the time Jungkook spent rinsing the bubbles out of his hair and from his body, his ears picked up a sudden loud voice and he listened in on the conversation across the apartment:

"-an't just throw him out onto the streets!"

He focused his hearing to the person on the other end of the call.

"Well he can't stay there with you, he's a complete stranger. I'd feel better if he stayed here with me. Then I know you won't get pounced on."

"Seriously? You can barely take care of yourself! Hyung! I can take care of myself."

"Against a bionic? I don't think so."

"What makes you think you could stand a chance either? He's a BIONIC! He'd never hurt anyone!"

"I'd be able to handle it Jimin."

"I appreciate the offer but you said it yourself, the weeks to come are gonna be hectic for you, whereas I'm completely free."

"Jimin, no, I don't agree with this."

"Well, tough because I've made my decision!"

Jungkook heard Jimin's bleated exhale follow, and he immediately turned off the water. He grabbed a towel from the cupboard below the sink, wrapped it around his waist and sprinted out of the bathroom at an unearthly speed. In the next second, he had arrived outside of the kitchen.

Jimin was stood facing away from him, with his fists clenched. "Jimin?"

"Yes?!" He replied in a slightly raised voice, and Jungkook watched as Jimin spun around, froze, then turned a deep shade of red before yelling, "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE WEARING?!" He then proceeded to run out of the room with his palms over his eyes.

Jungkook looked down at himself. "Jimin, are you okay?" He started towards the hallway, before he was haulted by a wavering command.

"S-stop! Don't you dare come over here dressed like that!"

Jungkook hadn't conceived how perhaps he appeared unbearable to look at. During their conversation that morning, Jimin had mostly refused to make any sort of eye contact with Jungkook, and he had shown the same red expression then too. Was that a sign of discomfort? Had he unintentionally made Jimin feel uncomfortable?

Jungkook spotted his old clothes laid out to dry atop the radiator, then he spent a few moments speedily slinking into the clothes before he walked into the hallway. Jimin was stood with his hand pressed over his chest, and his breathing had turned heavy. "Sorry, I didn't realise you would react that way."

Jimin glared at him. "Anyone would!"

Was it just a human thing? "I understand, I won't do it again. Did you ring up the company?"

The blond exhaled and then nodded, still unable to look at the bionic. "Yeah, I did...um, Jungkook?"

"Yes?"

"Are you sure you're from Seoul?

"Yes."

"Absolutely positive?"

"Yes."

"Because apparently, you aren't in their records.

"..."

"Jungkook?"

"That's not possible. Ring again."

Jimin sighed, his hand reaching up to touch the back of his pale neck with a drawn look upon his eyes. "Jungkook, you know best that they wouldn't make that kind of mistake."

The bionic paused. "Are you lying to me?"

"What?! No of course not!"

He scanned Jimin's glaring face, and came to the conclusion that the human was telling the truth before taking a step towards the smaller. "Let me use your phone."

"Uh, okay sure-" After swiping the mobile device from Jimin's hands, Jungkook brought up the search engine from the Bionic website, and inputted 'Bionic 5.2' at the top of the page. The results shown included all the models above and below, from the latest 5.6 version to the 2.9 version three generations below, but-

"...no 5.2," the bionic mumbled. Jungkook had never slumped before. He had never been face to face with a situation so out of his rational understanding that it had caused him to physically hunch forward, and lose the straightened posture in his shoulders. However, here he now stood, 'slumped'. He handed back the phone to Jimin, eyes pinned to his feet as his mind tried to list and label every single possible solution to this error.

"Jungkook?" the older timidly spoke. The bionic didn't reply, his own thoughts creating a compelling bubble around his silhouette. Had he been erased? His entire modelled version too? Was this the favour asked of Hoseok: to completely disappear from the face of Bionics? He heard a sigh. "Listen, Jungkook. I don't understand what's going on-"

"Me neither."

Jimin paused, and Jungkook felt a small hand glide over his forearm, and when the bionic turned abruptly to look at Jimin he became faced with an expression, an emotion, which he couldn't seem to grasp or understand. "Don't worry, we'll figure this out. You can stay with me until winter passes, and when it starts to get a little warmer you can make your way there yourself. The offer to drive you is still standing, and I can give you the money for a train-"

"No I refuse to accept money from you, it's unheard of. It's against the rules. I can run-"

"Jungkook!" Jimin spoke, almost yelled. "I'm not letting you leave my apartment knowing that there's a strong chance that you'll get something like...pneumonia, or maybe freeze to death!"

"But-"

"Ah!" Jimin cut him off loudly, surprising the younger who was immediately silenced by this smaller man. With his arms crossed over his chest and a detestable frown across his face, Jimin pouted at the bionic as he stared up with a deepening crease between his brows. "Listen to me! You're a bionic right? So you have to do what I tell you!"

"Well...well yes I suppos-"

"Then I'm ordering you to stay!" Jimin practically yelled. After a few seconds, the smaller's eyes widened, before his gaze quickly lowered beneath long lashes. "...That is, if you want to...?"

Jungkook swallowed, suddenly aware of the saliva which had built up underneath his tongue. "Are you sure? I overheard the conversation that you had with your friend over the phone...Jimin, I don't want to trouble you."

The older sighed, scratching his head. "I was unsure at first yes, but now just take my word...I want to help you."

"You've already helped me enough."

"That's not the point! You're clearly in a bad place so, just, stay here with me. Please?"

"I...I don't know-"

"Please? I'm not giving you any other option."

Never before had Jungkook been faced with this sort of dilemma before. Should he have ignored the weird sensation in his stomach? Should he have gone against what he had been programmed to do, and simply left there and then? Before Jungkook could even collect his thoughts, his head gave way to an involuntary nod, and in return, Jimin let out a sigh of utter relief.

Then Jimin smiled, turning his eyes into little crescents. "Okay! Since I'll be helping you out for a while, how about you help me?"

Jungkook could only nod again. Had he been rendered speechless? What was this feeling?

Yoongi

He slid his phone back into his pocket, and almost yelled in frustration. Why wouldn't Jimin listen to him? Couldn't he see how unnatural this whole situation was? Yoongi knew how lifeless bionics were supposed to be, so he knew that nothing bad could happen, but he still couldn't fathom the thought of Jimin being alone 24/7 with some stranger.

Even still, he knew he shouldn't have demeaned the younger like that, however as Jimin's hyung and friend he still said that he'd check up on the blond.

He stood from his sofa and made his way frantically around his dorm, searching for his coat. "C'mon where is it-" he lifted a few pizza boxes, and a strong, unpleasant aroma hit him in the face without mercy. "Fuck, what a shithole. Aha."

Once he had successfully located his coat, he started towards his door and opened it with one arm still snaking its way down the sleeve. However once the door opened, Yoongi bumped into a solid object before he stilled, confused, because he was sure that he had already opened the door in the first place. When he looked up, the first thing he noticed was a mop of bright orange hair.

"Hello! I'm Taehyung, a 5.0 bionic model. I've been-"

"Yeah nice, now get out of the way." The green-haired man tried to move around him, but the bionic named 'Taehyung' had blocked off any sort of exit with his arms.

"-assigned to help you, Min Yoongi, for the next few months," the bionic finished, his smile only seeming the widen the more the smaller tried to leave.

"No one called for you, now move," Yoongi huffed, his arms folding against his chest as if manifesting some sort of shield against this bionic stranger. What could he say? As irrational as it was, it made him feel more comfortable in this already uncomfortable situation.

The bionic frowned. "I've been told that-" Taehyung leaned down to Yoongi's level, his face only inches away from the other, "-that you're a bit of a hermit, Min Yoongi-"

Yoongi's sense of reasoning snapped at that comment, and he took a courageous step towards the ginger intruder. "I will fuck you up if you don't get out of the way-"

Taehyung smiled a closed-eye smile, his ability to talk over the smaller almost admirable. "-so it's my job to get you out of your shell!"

"What do you think I'm trying to do?!" Yoongi lunged towards the bionic, his fist sure to meet skin, but in a flash, his arm was caught before it met Taehyungs cheek. "What the fuck, I didn't ask for this!"

"Your landlord did."

"Shit!"

Taehyung moved forwards and closed the door behind him. When he did this, Yoongi bolted through his living room, knocking over piles of paper and clothes, and into his kitchen to reach his backdoor. He successfully opened it, and for a second he became blinded by the sudden bright light of day. When was the last time he had seen the sun?

Before he knew it, he felt a hand curl around his stomach and scoop him up off of the ground. "Fucking put me down, this is fucking illegal!"

'Taehyung' smiled, and placed Yoongi over his shoulder. "According to your landlord, I am allowed to use 'any means necessary to get the blasted man out of his pit'. Now, where are the...ah." He paced over to the front door, grabbed the keys and proceeded to lock both the front and back doors, all the while Yoongi had fruitlessly been unable to escape Taehyung's solid grasp.

"I thought you were supposed to get me out of my 'pit', not lock me in it!"

The bionic man finally placed Yoongi on the floor, and he warily took a few steps back, his eyes never leaving the smiling, orange-haired bionic. "First thing's first is to clean up this mess. You can't take a step into the world without having a neat, pleasant home to come back to!"

"What the hell is this?!"

Yoongi was going to kill the old lady if it was the last thing he was going to do.
