Chapter 24

Yoongi

He leaned away from his mic, and took a sip from his coffee mug. Because of the stress from university, he had turned to rapping to lose some steam, and maybe numb the wistful tightness in his chest. Yoongi wasn't worried so much about whether or not he could finish the project on time, but whether he could make it perfect. It had to be. Considering his concept on the theme, and the potential it had, he couldn't fuck this up.

A knock from his bedroom door made him sigh, and he removed his headphones. "I'm busy."

"I just thought maybe we should go shopping today."

"Why? Are we out of milk?"

"No, rather, I'm buying myself some clothes."

"Oh well good for you. Then you don't need me to come with you." He leaned back into his chair again and placed his headphones over his ears.

"You should come with me hyung. It's a good opportunity for you to buy something for yourself too."

"I don't need anything."

"There's nothing wrong with treating yourself sometimes~"

"Well unlike some people I'm living off a loan for my expenses."

"I thought you had a scholarship?"

"That only covers my tuition. Now are you gonna buy your clothes?"

"I'll pay for you."

"I don't need anything."

"I'll buy us lamb skewers."

"Let me get my coat."

He heard a laugh from behind the door before he turned off his cheap second-hand pc and grabbed his coat from the stand. Taehyung was stood outside wearing a black trenchcoat and a spotted shirt underneath. He grinned at Yoongi with that same cheesy smile, and Yoongi walked by him without responding. He had mixed feelings about the bionic which he didn't want to look too deep into.

Yoongi went to pick up his car keys, but Taehyung grabbed his wrist in protest.

"Yah-"

"It's best to take the metro today hyung, the roads are especially icy."

"And I suppose you have a metro card?"

The bionic pulled out a plain silver card with only the bionics company logo printed small into the corner. "This allows me to use anything that can be scanned or swiped, so long as it's within the companies capabilities."

"Am I supposed to be impressed."

Taehyung laughed again before opening his front door. "After you hyung."

They walked into the cold, and Yoongi found the bionics percepion to be true; the snow had melted a few days ago, but must have frosted over again over the nights so the path was more or less sheeted with a layer of ice.
Because his university accommodation was situated in central Busan, the metro wasn't far from his dorm and they both trailed underground.

"Hyung..."

"What?"

"Do you think I could listen to your mixtape?"

At that comment, his heart sped up with anxiety, and he was quick to shake his head. "No you can't." They both scanned their cards and walked through the customs. He had expected the usual whiny reply from Taehyung, but when it wasn't received he looked up from the floor.
The bionic had a faraway look in his eyes, like he had detatched himself from the current time and place.

"Taehyung."

When he called his name, the bionics head raised in a rapid movement, and  Yoongi was given the same pseudo smile he wished didn't exist.
He scratched his head as the doors to the train opened, and crowds of people seeped out.

When they entered, Yoongi held onto a pole for support and Taehyung did the same on the other side. Pulling out his phone, he glanced to his left.
There it was again. That same distant facade. "Taehyung."

"Yes hyung?"

He sighed, stuffed his phone back into his pocket and swallowed his nerves. "You can listen to my mixtape if you tell me what's on your mind."

"I'm not really thinking about anything important."

"Don't lie to me."

"I'm not!" Taehyung raised his shoulders in defense, turning away from Yoongi.

The train veered at corner, and they swayed to the right. "I guess you can't listen to it then."

The bionic pouted with widened eyes. "That's not fair!"

Yoongi looked away to hide his smile. He couldn't help himself when the bionic pulled such a cute face. "It is. Unless you tell me what's wrong with you then, no mixtape."

The train turned again, and the sudden corner caused the man besides Yoongi to fall into him, pushing him against Taehyung who was quick to grab his shoulders in order to steady him.
The man turned around and briefly apologized, and Yoongi squinted at the empty amendment. He felt Taehyungs hands squeeze his shoulders, a somewhat soothing gesture, and he clicked his tongue before standing upright and grabbing the pole again.

"...hyung, I..."

Yoongi spun around when he heard such a quiet, vulnerable voice besides him. It felt so foreign, and he didn't like it.
He waited for the bionic to continue, watching the reflections from the passing lights glimmer in his eyes, and when he remained silent, Yoongi sighed and patted his arm.

"I won't pry. I don't know how bionics work, but you still have your privacy."
The train began to slow, and Yoongi placed his hands in his pockets before walking out the open doors.

"What is wrong with your sense of fashion-"
Yoongi picked up a yellow and purple striped shirt with disgust.

Taehyung laughed and threw a few more shirts into the basket. "I'm not buying these ones, just trying them on."

"What's the point? It's just a waste of time."

He shrugged, and turned to browse other clothing. "It's fun."

"You have fun?"

"Of course. They made it my nature to have fun."

"'They?'"

"The scientists. I'm good at socialising with people. If they took away our sense of humor completely then bionics could only help manually. Also, I'm sure humans would hate us if we couldn't even have a laugh."

Yoongi couldn't argue with that statement, and threw the bright shirt into the basket again. "So you're supposed to be charming?"

"What? Do you think I'm not?"

"Yes 100%."

Taehyung opened his mouth in shock, and Yoongi couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculous sight. The bionic could only laugh too at his hyungs contagious laughter.

"Hyung you should laugh more, that's very charming."

"I never asked for your opinion," Yoongi smiled, turning back around to skim through the clothing.

"Why are you always so mean to m-"

"Hey hyung!"

Yoongi froze, and glanced up from the shirts. Jimin and his bionic were currently walking towards him, and he had a Taehyung stood to his left pressing different ridiculous looking shirts against his torso with a stupid grin on his face.

"Taehyung."

"Yahhh?"

"Can you go for a sec?"

"What? Why-"

"Just do it! Hurry!"

"Alright alright..." The orange haired bionic disappeared to who knows where, and Yoongi was suddenly embraced by his blonde friend.

***
Taehyung

It had been the first time he had heard Yoongi sound so desperate, so when he gave him that command he could only fulfill it. He sped up to the second floor on the balcony, then looked over to see Yoongi talking to a small blonde male and...

Jungkook?

What was he doing here? He had some sort of mission to complete right? Unless this is just an amazing coincidence...
He stared at the blonde man, who had such a cheery smile on his face.
Was he his employer? Namjoon had insinuated to him that Jungkook was in a tight situation that was potentially dangerous.

He listened into the conversation from where he was squatted.
Their conversation was only friendly. Except for Yoongi's dry comments.
He smiled at that thought.

...

Jungkook is staying at 'Jimin's' place?
What was his assignment?

The two left for the checkouts, and Taehyung sped down the escalators and toward Yoongi.

"H-hey hyung!"

"What is it?"

"Who was that just now?"

"My friend from uni, although he graduated last year-"

"So," Taehyung cut him off, "He's not...a dangerous person?"

Yoongi frowned at him, complete offense written across his face. "No, he's the last thing from dangerous, why the fuck would you ask that?"

The bionic held his tongue. He knew he may have been overanalyzing this. This could have be a simple 'escort' or 'civilian protection' assignment. He was just so surprised to see his bionic friend.

"I...never mind."

Yoongi rolled his eyes before shoving the basket full of clothes towards him. "Go try these on before I leave."

"I thought you said there was no point to it?"

Yoongi shrugged, then smirked. "I suppose seeing you in stupid clothes would be fun. But if you embarrass me I really will leave."

"But Yoongi-hyung. We haven't had the lamb skewers yet."

"..."

Taehyung grinned, and grabbed Yoongi by the hand.

"Yah! What are you doing?"

"You should try some on too!"

"I never agreed to this!"

"Just, come on!"

He pulled him to the dressing room with ease, and not because he had bionical strength, but because he was sure Yoongi had let him.
