In this world, soulmates exist but only for the supernatural. Soulmates have been picked by fate long before anyones birth. Only fate knows the future and they pick each pair/group of soulmates for a reason.

A normal human can have a soulmate that is supernatural but the human will not know they are soulmates with them. In some cases they may be able to feel the bond or it's effects but usually they can not. (But if turned into supernatural, they will know)

Vampires, shapeshifters, witches, and all the other supernatural creatures find their soulmate the same way. They meet their soulmates eyes and the world stops for them. They see their future with their soulmates and automatically feel the bond. (Yes I know it's just like imprints but I wanted a general description because it's easier.)

Supernatural creatures will feel their soulmates emotions as the bond grows. They will also be able to pick up on their scent exclusively, no matter what species. What that means is they can find their soulmate by scent if needed but only after the soulmate bond is activated.

Soul-marks will appear after one transitions into a vampire, shifter/wolf, mermaid, etc. That means neither of the soulmates will have a mark until both are transitioned into a vampire, shifter, werewolf, mermaid, fae, etc.

After the marks are activated and accepted by both soulmates, they can sense each other, hear each other's thoughts no matter how far away, feel each other's pain to an extent, and their souls are bound. Meaning if a vampire and a witch are soulmates, they get each other's "powers." Each couple is different on what they share/get. So every couple has different powers. But only when each group is complete. Meaning they will still be able to sense each other's feelings, thoughts, pain, etc. but they won't be able to "share powers" until the soulmate group is complete. That also means that if one soulmate has immortality, they all do but only when the soulmate group is complete.

Soulmates can reject each other but it's very painful and can possibly kill one another. But someone can meet their soulmate and not deny or accept and they will be fine. They will just feel more of a pull to be with or talk to their soulmate.

If a soulmate dies, it's excruciatingly painful. The mark turns to a dull grey and part of the other(s) soul is taken from the living soulmate.

There are different types of soulmates. There are soulmates (sexual), soul sisters (obviously not sexual), soul brothers (again obviously not sexual), and soul children. And when a couple (or group) of soulmates have children, they each get a tattoo of that child. No matter who the biological parents are, meaning they are their soul children (please don't make me fucking say it. Just don't be gross)

I know this is a lot of information.
But this is basically just a page to go back to if you're confused. The story will have and explain more of soulmate stuff. So don't worry if this is confusing!  And do not hesitate to ask questions if you're confused or find something that doesn't make sense 🖤
