A Presence Communication Part 3
"So you saved the world along with Yugi," Lizzy began to clarify with the spirit, "but you haven't went to this other world to be at peace? The afterlife, right?"
"Yes," Atem replied with a nod. "Yugi and I performed the ceremonial duel to mark the end of my journey. But nothing happened when I tried to go to the afterlife. We're all still wondering why this happened but it may be because my pendant is missing a piece on it."
"Wow...going through all of that effort but not being able to be at peace. That sounds rough, Atem."
"It can be but there are some benefits to staying here. I have a chance to be with my friends longer."
"But do you not want to return to a place you belong to?" Northwemko asked the spirit. "Do you not want to be at peace?!"
"That's my problem," Atem sighed, looking down on the ground. "I'm torn between staying here and going to the afterlife. When I lost my memories, Yugi and his friends were all I knew. But I had a life before them, family and friends that have already passed in a time that I was once in." He sighed again, crossing his arms. "I just wish that it didn't have to be this way."
"I felt that way when I left home," Lizzy admitted, rubbing the back of her neck. "It was one of the hardest decisions that I've made."
"You're not from this city?"
"Nope! I come from an island city, far away from here."
"An island...city?" The spirit didn't know of any places that had an island city. Then again, Japan is a string of islands so it doesn't sound too unusual. But an island with just a city?
"That is where we come from," Northwemko said with a nod. "Although we cannot say its name to you out of fear that others would invade our former home."
"I'm a spirit," Atem stated. "Why would I or any of our friends invade your home? Don't you trust us?"
"I do trust you guys," Lizzy spoke without a doubt. "There is only one thing I fear, and it's not any of you."
"The one that you fear?"
"...Yes." Lizzy looked down on the floor, not wanting to talk about the thing that she was afraid of. The spirit decided not to push on the subject, seeing how the girl didn't like to talk about it.
"So how long have you been in this complex?" the spirit asked, glancing around the apartment.
"I've been here for a few years now," Lizzy replied with a smile. "Ever since I got out of high school, I was looking for a way to live outside of the island city. I really wanted to explore the world, so I figured I start here in Japan. It was one of the places that I was familiar with ever since I was young." Suddenly, another Duel Monster came into the room, with brown, fluffy hair and wings. Lizzy stared at it and said, "Oh no."
"Who's this?" Atem asked, looking at Lizzy.
