10. A trip to the Bridal shop.
"Men marry because they are bored. Woman because they are curious both disappointed." - Oscar Wilde.
Leonardo Le Roux.
His hands were all over her and she didn't seem to mind. He even gave her money, Jesus Christ was this girl a whore with an innocent face. God knows the things I had already imagined in my head. The thing I would have done with her, the way she would have gasped under my body. The way she would have whimpered my name from those beautifully crafted peach lips.
Forget it.
I grabbed the landline, dialing the number I should have been calling for days. It didn't take time before it started ringing.
"Hello, Leo ?" Her voice rang reminding me that I was still on the phone.
"Uhm Grace, How are you ?" I stammered a bit.
"You haven't called in about a week, i was getting worried about you." I could feel her frustration radiating from the sound of her voice on the phone.
"I know I'm sorry, I was busy with my father looking for land, buying land and you know how he gets when he doesn't get what he wants." I lied knowing that my father went to Orange Free state alone.
"Oh I'm sorry for being inconsiderate, i just miss you alot." She sighed.
"It's okay, i do too." I added the words feeling so foreign like soap on my tongue.
"When do you return ?" She asked polite.
"Soon." I mumbled did I really want to leave so soon.
"When exactly is soon Leo ?" She pestered making me groan with frustration.
Dammit Woman !
"Soon is soon." I bluntly replied.
"I went shopping with your mother earlier this week, she took me to a bridal shop-" i almost choked on my saliva.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE TOOK YOU TO A BRIDAL SHOP ? OH DEAR MOTHER YOU WOUND ME." I groaned raising my voice a bit.
"It's nothing big Leo, she just wanted me to try out some of the dresses and you know." She explained.
"You don't get into bridal shops with your boyfriends mother, rule number one. That is just a bit off." I explained.
"Oh. I didn't think much to it." She said thoughtfully.
"But it will come a time-" she added and I immediately cut her off.
"But now is not the time." I said in a much sarcastic voice.
"We are both finished with our law studies, You are twenty-four and I'm twenty-three. How is it not the right time ? I didn't study biology but I'm aware that having kids in the early twenties is most advisable for a woman rather than at any other stage." She added.
"My mother talked you into this right ?" I said inhaling the cigarette, i had recently lit.
"No Leo, this is something I want as well. My father has been asking when will you ask for my hand in marriage." She paused. "He knows we are sleeping together." She added.
"Shit." I cursed.
"That is our personal life, how does he know that ?" I snapped, inhaling then exhaling the fresh scent of tobacco.
"That doesn't matter Leo, bottomline is i gave you my viginity before marriage because I knew one day you would eventually marry me." She explained and I felt a tug on my chest.
"That's blackmail." I blatantly replied.
"No, I'm sorry if it sounds that way." She said in the most polite voice and here I was all softened up again. I couldn't be angry at her for some reason.
"Uncle Johan is calling me, i have to be on my way Grace. It was nice hearing your voice." I lied with the best wishes that the call would just end already.
"I love you, Leo. Stay safe have you seen the things happening in the Soviet Union and the Soviet satellites... just be careful. South AFRICA might be included in this Cold War politics." She said in a sweet voice reminding me why I liked her in the first place.
"I will, love." I said immediately hanging the phone.
"Well that went great, fiancée." I said in a mocking voice, running my hand through my curls.
There was a knock on the door, i quickly went to open in revealing Thembi. I don't know why i was expecting someone else, really...
"Mr. Leo dinner is being served." She said then immediately left.
"Honestly I prefer if you would just call me Leo, like everyone else." I yelled hopefully she heard me from the passage.
I grabbed my coat and made my way downstairs, i passed but the kitchen and I saw her. She had a smile on her face as she served the food. Did that young man really make her this ecstatic.
"Leo, hope I didn't disturb your call ?" Uncle Johan snapped me out of my thoughts. I buttoned my last three buttons and sat down on the dinner table.
"Not at all." I sighed.
"You seem a bit weary ?" He questioned.
"I'm fine, Uncle Johan." I plastered a smile.
"Today, Tsholo cooked so that should put you in a good mood well to me it always does." it was true today and right now he seemed nice and happy.
"Great." was the only thing I muttered.
She came around the table serving spaghetti and meatballs, her warm brown eyes shyed away from my own blue eyes. I couldn't help but look away from her. I was disappointed to a larger extent.
"Dankie dankie Felo." Uncle Johan said as she was adding a bit too much on his plate.
"Jammer Mnr." She apologised.
"Uhm don't serve from me, i will do it myself." I awkwardly stood up and grabbed the utensils for serving. A flash of embarrassed crossed her beautiful face then she quickly nodded and left the room.
"She likes you." Uncle Johan muttered.
"That's nonsense and you know it." I chuckled.
"Maybe i am just assuming things...this old age doesn't help either." He shook his head as he ate.
"You are an old man indeed." I changed the topic. "How is father ?"
"Well-" He talked but honestly I didn't hear much, my eyes were on the girl that was cleaning the kitchen counter with a frown on her face.
