Chapter 2: The Teal-Eyed Boy

"Listen up, trainees!" Shadis started, his voice loud like always. "Today you'll be testing your 3D maneuver gear!"

All the trainees will be using their gear in the forest nearby. The goal is to slice as many "titans" as you can before the time's up. Members from the 104th were also supposed to join, but only to make sure none of the trainees get seriously injured. After everyone had their gear ready, they had gathered by the edge of the forest.

Slight anxiety rushed through your body, since this was your first try with the gear after all. You looked over at Kadence, who smiled reassuringly at you before the sound of a flare gun was heard and green smoke was seen, signaling everyone to start.

Everyone rushed into the forest, running in different directions as they tried out their gear. You hesitantly shot a wire to a tree, instantly flying through the forest. You were scared at first, but grew to like your new gear. Who wouldn't like the feeling of flying?

You were so caught up in flying, you almost forgot the main goal of this training. Killing titans. You looked below, seeing a fake titan and made your way towards it, drawing out your swords in the process. You managed to slice the nape of the neck, the foam falling to the ground. You smiled proudly at yourself when you saw the cut was deep enough.

You shot your wire to another tree, flying through the forest.

Half an hour had past and you had been slicing fake titans left and right non stop, so you decided to take a break on a branch. You had been flying without a stop, so this was your first time, and you were quite nervous about that.

It probably would've been smarter to aim for a branch closer to the ground.

You landed on the branch quite quickly, loosing your balance and falling over. Your brain barely had time to process what had happened, but once it did, you let out a yelp. You were about to hit the ground when the sound of wires were heard, and soon enough, you were being held bridal style.

You looked up, seeing a boy around your age with brown hair and teal eyes. He placed you gently onto a branch after zipping around the forest for a bit.

"Thanks," you muttered shyly, seeing how cute the boy was.

"No problem," he replied with a smile. "I'm Eren Jeager." Your eyes widened, recognizing his name as you instantly saluted, which Eren only chuckled at.

"No need for saluting," he informed with a smile as you let your arm drop to your side. He tilted his head to the side in confusion as he remembered he hadn't caught your name. "What's your name?"

"(Y/N) (L/N)," you replied.

"That's a pretty name," Eren complimented without thinking, and his cheeks was instantly tinted a light shade of pink, along with you. You smiled and looked away shyly, not knowing how to reply. More specifically, how to reply without stuttering.

"You're not injured anywhere, are you?" Eren asked, concern in his voice as he looked over at you. You looked back at him and shook your head, before red smoke could be seen from the edge of the forest.

"Looks like it's time to go back," Eren pointed out, looking towards the red smoke before looking back at you. "Maybe we can go back together?" His cheeks had gotten better for no reason, since they were now pink again. You only nodded in response, a tint of pink on your cheeks as well.

Soon enough, the both of you were zipping back together. It was quite quiet, as the only sounds were the zipping of wires and the occasional run-in with other trainees. Luckily, the edge of the forest wasn't far away, so you didn't have to zip through the air for too long. Not that you were against that. You would've rather been flying through the forest then have hand-to-hand combat with some random trainee.

Shadis and other trainees that had came before you came in sight. Since Eren was slightly in front of you, he landed first. You still hadn't figured out the whole landing thing, so you landed badly, again, but Eren was able to stop you from falling over.

"I definitely have to work with my landing," you giggled, your cheeks a light pink since Eren had wrapped his arms around your waist to stop you from falling.

"You'll get the hang of it," he assured with a reassuring smile as he helped you stand straight before removing his hands, his cheeks also a light pink.

"(Y/N)!" You heard Kadence yell, causing you to look behind you to see Kadence running towards you.

"I guess I'll see you around, then," Eren said before walking away, even though part of him wanted to stay.

"(Y/N)!" Kadence repeated as you turned around, only to be attacked in a hug, causing you to fall to the ground with Kadence. You were used to these hugs by now, so it didn't bother you much.

Kadence got up, offering a hand to help you up. You placed your hand on her's, gladly excepting her help as you stood up and dusted yourself off.

"So," Kadence started, a smirk plastered on her face. "Who's the boy?" She wiggled her eyebrows at you, causing you to blush slightly as you thought of a certain teal-eyed boy from earlier.

"Eren Yeager from the 104th," you answered truthfully, ignoring the slight shade of pink on your cheeks.

"You two seemed to hit it off," she giggled, causing you to smack her arm playfully as your blush only seemed to grow. She only giggled at your flustered face.

"Shadis gave us all a break," Kadence started. "So what do you want to do?" You only shrugged in response, and muttered a quiet "I don't know" that was barely even audible.

"Well," Kadence continued. "I want a signature tree." You looked over at your friend with a quizzical look.

"Signature tree?" You repeated confusedly.

"You know, a tree we can call our's," Kadence explained. "So whenever we walk past it, we'll be like, 'hey look, there's our signature tree'." You looked over at your friend before bursting out laughing.

"What?" Kadence asked, as she couldn't help but laugh as well. "It can be our little tree of happy memories. So every time we think of it, we think of all the happy memories we have there." You let out a few more giggles before grabbing Kadence's arm, dragging her with you in some random direction.

"Where are we going?" She asked, looking over at you as you pulled her along.

"To find our signature tree," you replied, keeping your sight forward as you continued walking. You didn't have to turn around to know your friend was smiling.
