Gray or Blue

"I didn't think we'd be left alone already," Kagami said with a laugh, moving back to lay on his couch. "Aren't we supposed to be up to all hours since this is a college party?"

"Where'd you get that idea?" Aomine stepped over Kise sleeping on the floor to sit on the coffee table next to Kagami. "This is just the old basketball gang. The only thing that makes this a college party is that we all just finished our first semester in college."

Kagami laughed a little, looking up at the ceiling. "Yeah, it's not like we all changed just because we're in college. I would've thought Kise would've lasted a little longer. He kept saying we'd have time together tonight."

Kise mumbled and turned in his sleep, holding onto Aomine's foot. Aomine narrowed his eyes, lifting up his foot to show Kagami. "Seriously, what do you see in this guy?"

Kagami laughed louder, making the rest of the generation of miracles stir where they were sleeping. "He's cute?"

Aomine rolled his eyes. "You two hardly spend time together, how do you even call that dating?"

"Oh and what about you?" Kagami propped himself up on his elbows, looking Aomine right in the eyes. "Wasn't your girlfriend supposed to be here tonight?"

"I told you." Aomine leaned back, knocking Kise's hand off his foot. "Her brother planned a surprise visit home from Australia."

"Do you love her?" Kagami laid back on the couch, turning only his head to face Aomine.

"Love?" Aomine's eyes widened. "We've only gone out for a couple months."

Kagami looked back at the ceiling. "Yeah. You seem happy with her at least. Whenever I see you, you're smiling and looking so happy... I guess, it just makes me think..."

Aomine leaned closer, resting his arms on his knees. "Don't tell me that you love Kise?"

Kagami shook his head, smiling a little. "No one will ever love Kise more than Kise does."

"I want you to be happy too."

Aomine's words caught Kagami off guard. He looked back at Aomine, noticing that Aomine was a little closer. The light gleamed behind Aomine, creating a halo around him. Kagami couldn't help leaning up towards Aomine too. Aomine rested a hand on Kagami's cheek, gently caressing his skin. They both leaned closer to each other, Kagami dropped his gaze to Aomine's lips. They looked so full and warm. Aomine closed the distance, kissing Kagami deeply. Kagami kissed him back, letting his eyes slowly close.

"Nnh what time is it?" The sound of Himuro stirring and mumbling across the room made Aomine pull back and stand up. Himuro walked over to the couch, "Geez, Taiga, I didn't realize how late it'd gotten. You probably want us out of your hair."

"It's fine." Kagami sat up, looking up at Aomine. "You all are more than welcome to stay."

"Himuro's right," Aomine shoved his hands in his pockets, stepping around the coffee table. "It's late, I should get going." Without waiting for Kagami to respond, he walked out the front door.

Himuro furrowed his brow, looking from the door down to Kagami. "Did I interrupt something?"

"No, don't worry about it, Tatsuya." Kagami pulled his gaze away from the door to look over at Himuro. "We were just talking."

Himuro smiled, "If you say so. Well, I'm going to head home."

"Good night," Kagami said as Himuro walked towards the front door. He laid back on the couch again when he was left with only sleeping party guests. He touched his fingers to his lips. Aomine's lips had really been there not too long ago. He almost didn't believe it, but he really did love it.

~~~
Kagami sat at the table at Maji Burger, scrolling through the messages on his phone. It'd already been a week since the party and he hadn't heard from Aomine once since then. He'd texted Aomine a couple times, even tried to call once, but nothing.
"Taigacchi, what are you looking so sad about? I'm here now." Kise said with a wink, sitting down across from Kagami.
He shook his head, smiling to hide the discontent he kept feeling. Things had always been fun with Kise, but ever since he talked to Aomine about it, something felt missing. "Sorry about that. I'm glad you made it."
"The shoot ran a little late, but I brought you a little something." Kise grinned, taking a glossy print out of his messenger bag and set it in front of Kagami. "A little preview of the next issue."
Kagami picked up the print, keeping the forced smile on his face. Kise was posing semi-seductively in the new line of clothes he was modeling. "You look so cute, I could just eat you up."
"Oh Taigacchi," Kise said, his face turning a little pink, "You're as bad as Aominecchi."
He laughed, setting the print down and leaning forward over the table. "Am I?"
"Yes~" Kise said with a smile, leaning in to kiss Kagami. Kagami kissed him back, Kise definitely had soft, warm lips, but something was missing. There wasn't that spark that he felt when he and Aomine kissed. Did the spark go away after kissing Aomine, or had he never felt that with Kise at all?
Kise's phone vibrating on the table brought an end to their kiss. Kagami still lingered close to Kise's face, but Kise didn't seem to notice or care. He sat back, watching Kise pick up his phone. "Oh no, this is work. I left before they were done, looks like I need to go back."
"They really demand a lot of you..." Kagami let out a long breath as Kise packed up his stuff.
"I'll make it up to you, I promise," Kise said with a smile. He didn't wait for Kagami to say anything before leaving.
Kagami watched him go, mumbling to himself, "There's always something..." He pulled out his phone, still nothing from Aomine. He looked up in time to see the doors to Maji open and Aomine walk in with a girl with long, maroon hair. Kagami couldn't stop staring at Aomine, watching how his body moved when he took a step or how his hands moved when he spoke. Nothing had ever fascinated him more.
Aomine's gaze looked over the restaurant, finding Kagami's gaze. They made eye contact, but Aomine hardly looked at him for two seconds before looking away. Kagami couldn't stop himself from sighing. He didn't want their friendship to be over, but he could feel that he wanted more. It was taking Kise too long to win his heart, and now Kagami felt ready to hand it over to Aomine instead.
He had to force himself to stop staring, and looked down at his phone. He went to Himuro's contact and called it. It took a minute, but Himuro did answer, "Taiga? What is it?"
"You sound tired, I can call back."
"Atsushi and I had a late night, it's nothing really. Don't you dare hang up." Himuro insisted, "So, what's going on?"
"I have a problem," Kagami said into his phone, but he was staring at Aomine again, particularly those warm lips. How did those lips taste... Kagami cleared his throat. "I think I'm in love."
"Love? Isn't that a good thing if you love Kise?" Kagami could hear Himuro smiling as he spoke, "I mean, I know you were having trouble getting serious with him."
Kagami shook his head even though Himuro couldn't see it. "I don't love Kise. I think I want to end it with him."
"End it?" Surprise seeped into Himuro's voice, "If that's how it's going with Kise, then... who do you love?"
Kagami was quiet for a moment before saying, "Aomine..."
"Really? I mean, I know you guys are friends too, but I thought you guys were still rivals?"
"But he's also a really good friend. I know that he cares about his friends, and he's far more attentive than Kise," Kagami said with a laugh. "We... we were in the middle of a kiss when you woke up at my party last week."
"I knew I was interrupting something! Have you talked to Aomine about what happened?"
"He won't answer my texts or calls, but I know he felt something too... he wouldn't have tried to kiss me if he didn't, right?"
"Talk to him. Go find him in person and don't let him leave until you've said how you feel."
"You make that sound so easy."
"It is easy, what have you got to lose?"
"You do know that he has a girlfriend, right?" Kagami let out a long sigh. He did want to talk to Aomine, but he wouldn't ruin things for Aomine if he was happy.
"Figure out how you want to talk to him." Himuro insisted. "Pining is useless."
"Thanks, Tatsuya." Kagami smiled, hanging up the phone. Himuro did make a good point that Kagami couldn't just keep sitting and waiting for Aomine to come to him. If he could just talk to Aomine, then it'd be on Aomine to take a step forward.
He got up from his table at Maji and walked over to where Aomine and his girlfriend were sitting. Aomine seemed to go farther out of his way to avoid eye contact as Kagami walked up. He smiled, looking at the two of them. "Sorry to interrupt, but I have to talk to you about something important, Aomine."
"I'll call you tomorrow," Aomine mumbled in his gravelly voice.
"Don't forget. It's important." Kagami smiled. He looked back at the girl sitting across from him, "Sorry again for interrupting."
Kagami walked away from the table and out of Maji Burger. He pulled out his phone as he walked home, calling Kise. As usual, it went straight to Kise's voicemail. Kagami sighed and left a message, "Hey Ryouta, I've been thinking about some things and I think we need to talk." He hung up, hoping that his message would be enough to get Kise to pick up on the hint.
~~~

Kagami took a deep breath, sitting on his couch, constantly moving his hands over one another. After some convincing, he'd gotten Aomine to come over. He couldn't tell Aomine that he loved him over the phone, this was definitely an in-person kind of conversation.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on his door. Kagami went to the door, hesitating before answering it. His hands were so shaky. It was still the same Aomine, he shouldn't be so nervous. He took another deep breath and opened the door, letting Aomine inside.

"So what was so important that we had to talk in person?" Aomine groaned, walking inside but not looking at Kagami once.

"The kiss." Kagami walked back inside, walking right up to Aomine to give him little opportunity to look anywhere else. "It's already been a week and we haven't talked about it."

"What's there to talk about?" Aomine glared, shoving his hands in his jacket pockets.

Kagami took another deep breath, looking right into Aomine's eyes as he said, "I love you."

Aomine's eyes widened. He was stuck staring at him for a moment, mouth hanging open. Finally, he regained composure, stepping back and looking away. Kagami balled his hands into fists, he had to say everything he was thinking. "I know you feel the same way. I felt it when we kissed and now you're second guessing it and I can't look away from you because I see you when my eyes are closed. You were right that I'm not really happy with Kise. But you and I... we could be happy. I know you're dating someone, but you even said that she doesn't have your heart. All I'm asking for is a chance to have your heart and to give you mine."

Aomine whipped around, rushing back over to Kagami and grabbed him by the shirt collar. He held him close, eyes narrowed. "Don't go saying something like that when you're still dating that blonde narcissist."

"I'm not." Kagami kept his voice steady, meeting Aomine's gaze right on. "I broke it off with Kise yesterday after I saw you at Maji."

"Geez..." Aomine let out a long breath, letting go of Kagami. He raised a palm to his forehead. "Yesterday was a bad day for both of us." Aomine looked back at Kagami. "Gou and I decided to end things too. She knew something had been off since that party and when she saw you yesterday... she doesn't blame me though, she thinks you have perfect muscles too."

"Then, does that mean..." Kagami trailed off. He didn't believe what he was hearing. Aomine wasn't joking with him, was he?

Aomine stepped closer to Kagami, resting his hand on the back of Kagami's neck and pulled him in. There was a quiet moment in the air when they both looked into each other's eyes. Kagami could see every intricate detail, every shade of blue that formed flecks around his irises. Aomine closed the gap, tenderly, kissing Kagami. He pulled back after a moment, whispering, "I love you too, Taiga."

Kagami smiled wide. He really did like it better when Aomine was the one to use his first name. He wrapped his arms around Aomine's shoulders, whispering against his lips, "Daiki..." He kissed Aomine again and Aomine kissed back, wrapping his arms around Kagami's waist, holding him so close that there wasn't a sliver of light between them.

[AN: I hope you liked this one!! ^^ I certainly had a lot of fun writing it! the song really inspired me and it felt so perfect for AoKaga! I hope you don't mind the temporary KagaKi, but I really wanted to focus on a story where Aomine and Kagami aren't quite together yet, but they're getting there ^^ anyways! what did you think?]
