Chapter 8: Just Like Old Times
Carrie sat down on a chair near the kitchen table, taking a drink of some warm milk. The others had gone back to sleep, but she was still pretty shaken up from the nightmare. She goes through her mom's belongings and comes across something she hadn't seen in several years. Her old camcorder. She takes out the SD card and puts it through her laptop, looking at the files. One video caught her eye on the files; It was a video of her and Jessica performing together on stage. She puts in some earbuds and began to listen to their sweet voices working together. It felt pretty nice to listen to herself working with one of her biggest Idols.
((Flashback: Carrie's 21st birthday.))
Carrie sat with her mother at the bar in the Ink and Paint nightclub, fiddling with her sash that her mother got her. Daniel was babysitting Lauren back at home, just to keep a close eye on her. Carrie on the other hand? She was barely touching her drink. "Carrie, It's your birthday. You should be celebrating it like it's the time of your life." She nodded solemly. "Yeah. I know mom. Everything has just been slow lately." Then Carrie felt a tap on her shoulders and she turned around and looked to see a stagehand. "Excuse me, Carrie Warner-Nelson, correct?" Carrie gave a small nod. "Yeah that's me." "You mind following me backstage for a moment? Some people want to see you." Carrie nodded and followed the stagehand.
(Backstage)
Carrie walked through the halls until she runs into Roger and Jessica. "O-oh! You were the ones that called me?" Jessica places a hand on her hip and she chuckled. "Guilty. I was peeking out the door, and saw you bored out of your mind.. The big 21, hm?" Roger jumped up and down around Carrie, blowing a noise maker and throwing confetti. "Jeepers. That's a big number!" Carrie laughs softly at his actions, starting to feel a lot better about this being a boring day. "Hey, thanks for this uplift. I really needed the positivity, honest." Jessica took her hand and spun her around into her performer's outfit. "I'm about to go on, and was wondering if you wanted to join in with your favorite song.." "Would I ever!" Carrie follows her to the stage and the lights went low again.
(Meanwhile.. Note: Might want to get your headphones for this experience.)
Amelia had finished up her drink and then got herself a bottle of water. She sees the light dim down and the guys rushing towards the stage. She decides to join in and get herself a seat front row, taking out her camcorder and pressing record. Carrie and Jessica both walk out on stage together. "You had plenty money, 1922.. You let other women make a fool of you. Why don't you do right? Like some other men do?" Jessica sang and looked at some men staring the two down. "Get out of here.. Get me some money too."
Carrie follows her down the walkway of the stage, singing the next verse. Her hands reached around while taking off her white feather boa. "You're sitting down, and wondering what it's all about. If you ain't got no money, they will put you out. Why don't you do right? Like some other men do?" She takes off the feather boa and throws it into the audience, just like old times. "Get out of here, get me some money too." Amelia smiles at her, giving a thumbs up behind the camera. She was just happy to see her daughter feeling better and having fun again. The two bombshells come together and tease a couple of the men while continuing the song.
"Now if you had prepared 20 years ago, you wouldn't be wandering out from door to door. Why don't you do right? Like some other men do!" Carrie smirks softly as they approach Roger who was silently cheering them on and she lets some dollar bills rain on him from what she had. "Get out of here, get me some money too." Carrie looked to Jessica as they got back upstage. "Get out of here.. Get me some money too.. Why don't you do right? Like some other meeeeeennnnn... Do?" Carrie pulled a string as gold confetti rained down while the crowd clapped and whistles for the two. Amelia stopped the recording and clapped as well.
"Thank you. Thank you.. And happy birthday to you Carrie. You deserve nothing but the best." Jessica gave her a friendly side hug and Carrie returned the affection by doing the same. "Come on Carrie, let's get to that ice cream parlor you love." Amelia takes her hand and they walk out of the Ink and Paint nightclub. Roger and Jessica waved goodbye to the two.
