Heaven

"I don't wanna go" I sighed as we packed

Today we go back to Tappahannock and frankly, I don't want to go back.

"I know. But you know you don't have to go back home, you can stay with me" Chris said

"I can't just come live with you and your mama. It wouldn't be right" I shook my head

"There's nothing wrong with it. We got plenty of room" he shrugged

"It's not about space...I just don't wanna put my problems on you" I folded my shirt

Without another word, he took my shirt out of my hands, and took my hands into his.

"I don't know if you know this or not, but the day you agreed to be mine, is the day all your problems became mine. We in this together" he explained

"And vice versa" I added

"So if you not going to come stay with me, can you at least promise me you'll tell yo' uncle?" he pulled me in closer, wrapping his arms around my waist

"Yes, I'll tell him" I sighed

"Soon as we get back" he said

"Like soon as I walk in the house?" I asked

"Yup. I'm coming with you to make sure you do it too, and if you don't tell him I will." he set the rules "Cus' I shoulda' just beat his ass myself" he added

"Ok Christopher" I groaned

"Don't use that tone with me, lil lady" his hands slid down and pinched my butt

"Ouch, big head" I playfully pushed him away

"Lay 'em on me" was his way of saying he wanted a kiss

"Bend down" I stood on my tiptoes

"Short ass" he said before his lips connected with mine

"You good? Christopher asked as we drove

We had dropped the rest of his family off and now we were headed to my house.

"Yeah" I lied, looking out the window

"Aye" he rested his hand on top of mine "I'ma be right there with you" he reassured me

I nodded and continued looking out the window. I was so nervous, I don't know how my uncle will react, and it just has me worried.

"You ready?" Chris asked as we pulled in front of my house

"Yeah" I sighed, getting out

I got my key out and opened the door.

"Who that?" I heard my uncle ask from the kitchen

"It's me" I answered back

"Sugafoot" he quickly came out the kitchen and hugged me

"Aw I missed you" I chuckled

"I missed you too" he pulled away "Now why the hell you ain't tell me you was leaving?" he asked

"Uhm..."I looked back at Chris before speaking "I have something to tell you" I said

"You pregnant? Heaven, I swear if you pregnant I-"

"No. No. No" I said quickly

"Oh. Whew, better not be" he said

"I...My...Well...I can't do this" I shook my head

"Yes you can." Chris said

"...M-My dad...he's been abusing me" I said quietly

"I don't think I heard you correctly. Say that again" uncle Steve chuckled

"No. You heard me right" I sighed as I felt tears falling

"I'ma kill him with my bare fuckin' hands when he get back." his jaw clenched

"No. Please don't" I said

"How long?" he ignored me

"Ever since I can remember" I shrugged

"Did ya mama know about this?" he paced the floor

"Uhm...Y-Yeah" I looked down at the floor

"Aye Chris, take her to yo' house for a few days. I'll call you when everything situated" he gave orders

"What? Why?" I questioned

"This is none of ya' concern, sugafoot. Just go with Chris and I'ma call you in a few days" he said

"Ok. I love you" I sighed, hugging him tightly

"I love you too, and after today you don't got to worry about nobody hurting you again" he said

We pulled away from each other

"Chris, take care of my lil girl" my uncle instructed

"I got you" he nodded

I silently cried the entire ride. My uncle is nobody to play with, he's dangerous, and so much is going on in my mind right now.

"Where are we?" I asked quietly, looking out the window

It was an old, abandoned building.

"I come here to clear my mind. I figured it would help" he said, getting out of the car

He came around and opened my door, hugging me tightly once I got out.

"Everything gone be ok." he rubbed my back

"I hope it is" I cried into his shirt

"Come on. I wanna show you something" he grabbed my hand and we walked up to the building

"Are we even supposed to be here?" I asked, looking around

"We good" he shrugged

We came to a creaky, rugged ladder that looked like it was about to fall apart any second.

"I'ma go behind you to make sure you don't fall" he said

"You don't have to, because I'm not going up there" I said

"Heav, it's safe." He sighed

"And how are you so sure?" I squinted

"I've came here numerous times. Just trust me" he said

There I go not trusting him again. But I'm honestly scared that ladder will break.

"Ok" I breathed before gripping into the ladder carefully

I slowly made my way to the top with him behind me, my heart raced in my chest still after reaching the top.

"Go through this door" he directed

"Are there more ladders?" I whined

"No, big baby" he chuckled

I opened the door he told me to and walked out through it.

"This is beautiful" I gasped

It was a view of the entire city, the sun was setting, cars were driving, and you could hear the sounds of people. My heart that was once beating rapidly was now at a normal pace.

"Isn't it?" Chris wrapped his arms around me from behind

"It's like...a breath of fresh air. Like all the thoughts in my mind just..."

"Faded away?" he finished

"Yeah...But they're going to come back. What am I going to do when they come back?" I sighed

"Don't worry about that right now. Just enjoy this moment" he rubbed my sides

And that's exactly what I did.
