"Kate you look fine!" freshman Indigo Aro, told her best friend as they both looked into the mirror Indigo had set up in her room.

"I feel stupid" the blonde said turning on her heels to look at the girl behind her. Indigo was wearing a a white sweater half tucked into a dark red pleated skirt, and black sheer tights underneath. "You're dressed nice and I'm in jeans, a sweatshirt with a flannel over it"

"You look cute" Indigo smiled softly placing her hands on the blonde's arms. A flash of pink came across the girl's freckled face as she heard the compliment. Kate then immediately turned back around doing a fake cough to try and cover it up. "Now come on!" Indigo complained grabbing Kate's hand and dragging her out of her bedroom and into the hallway, where Seazynn was running.

"Nope! Seazynn is in a dress! I'm going home!" Kate protested, but was just pulled into Indigo's side.

"Remember what my mom said. I won't be able to see you tomorrow unless you come to mass with us!" Indigo reminded giving the friend a stern look, which made Kate roll her eyes and nod her head.

"Ok, but I swear if your dad makes fun of me I'm walking home" the sophomore laughed as they both made their way into the family's living room. And just as the two walked into the living room it was almost on cue that Indigo's dad came out and gave Kate a look, the one that said he was gonna make fun of her.

"Kate you planning on cutting down some trees?" he asked poking fun at her flannel.

"Yeah that's it!" Kate laughed getting off the couch, jokingly making her way to the door.

"You know I'm kidding" the older man laughed bringing the blonde into a hug. "Angélica!" he yelled out, "Sorry your mom is taking forever" he laughed walking back to his room and in no time brought back Angélica complaining about not having enough time to get ready. "Ok everyone in the car!" he said pointing to the door.

Everyone walked out and was met with the Illinois' freezing temperatures. Indigo immediately clung to her best friend arm as she tried snuggling herself against her, attempting to create any warmth. "Seazynn you're sitting in the middle!" Indigo yelled as she watched her sister try to get an end seat in the car. The younger girls groan could be heard very dramatically as she scooted herself to the middle.

Indigo broke away from Kate's side and found herself on the opposite side of the car as she got in. "I'm cold" the youngest complained as her father tried turning on the heat as fast as possible.

"Come here" Kate smiled wrapping her arms around the young girl, attempting to warm her up.

"You're my favorite sister!" Seazynn smiled looking up at the girl before giving an annoyed look at her actual sister.

"You would punch me if I tried hugging you" Indigo blatantly stated as she crossed her arms.

"Probably"

As they entered into the church, Indigo dabbed her finger into the holy water before doing the sign of the cross. Kate just watched her and silently took in the girls beauty. Indigo just smiled at her before she took her hand and brought them to the pew the family normally sits in.

"Just remember, hands across your chest during communion" Indigo reminded showing Kate to cross her arms like she had told her to do. The blonde nodded her head before all their attention was drawn to the priest entering with the alter boys.

Throughout the mass Indigo informed Kate of certain things they were about to do, like kneeling or the sign of peace, so she didn't feel too out of place when things happened. And when the homily came around it seemed to be taking forever. He just kept talking in circles, but soon enough the mass ended.

"Thanks be to God" the entire church said in response to the priest before he left through the same way he entered. It was 12 in the morning by this point, and all the two girls wanted to do was go to sleep, but they couldn't until Mr and Mrs. Aro made their rounds of saying hello to people.

Kate and Indigo had found themselves in their own conversation when a boy came up behind Indigo and tapped on her shoulder, causing her to turn around. "Hey, I'm Taylor" he said introducing himself. The two girls immediately recognized him as he was a senior on the soccer team, "Did you just transfer to Edwardsville?" he asked cocking his head to the side.

"No, why?" the brunette asked, confusion clear on her face.

"Well I just thought I would've recognized that beautiful face before" he smiled, but the girl felt ultimate disgust as he tried hitting on her, "maybe we could go out sometime?"

"She's 14" Kate cut in. The boys tan face, went completely pale as he heard her age come out the blondes mouth.

"Oh" he was left speechless, "Sorry" he apologized before walking away. The two girls just turned to look at one another before bursting out into laughter.

"Did you see his face?" Indi asked with her jaw dropped. "He looked like he saw a ghost! No he was the ghost!"

"Ghost of Christmas past maybe?" the taller girl laughed nudging Indi in the side.

"Mhm exactly" Indi nodded her head, biting her lip as she tried holding back her smile as she stared at the Martin girl.

Even though it was winter her face was still adorned with beautiful freckles and her blue eyes were just as bright. Indigo wanted to kiss every freckle on her face, but instead she just stood up and made her way over to her mom, which allowed them all to leave.

Back at the Aro family home, Indigo and Kate were sat in front of the colorful Christmas tree. Everyone else had gone to bed and they had just finished putting out presents for Seazynn to find from Santa in the morning.

"Oh my god, I almost forgot!" Indigo whisper yelled as she jumped up from her spot on the ground and ran to her bedroom leaving a confused Kate in the living room. It wasn't long after until she came back holding a perfectly wrapped gift box and a big smile on her face, "Open it" she smiled bigger as she handed it over to girl and sat down in front of her.

Kate looked up at Indigo before looking back down at the box and carefully unwrapping it to reveal a Nike box, "You fucking didn't" Kate giggled opening the box to reveal the basketball shoes she had been wanting all year. "How the hell did you pay for these?" Kate gasped taking the shoes out of the box and looking at them.

"From the money I saved up over summer" Indigo smiled watching her best friend be so excited over the gift she got her.

"You're so perfect" Kate looked into Indigo's eyes with a bright smile on her face. The two could feel tension between them, almost like they were about to kiss, until they heard a horn outside. "Oh! That's my mom! I gotta go" Kate quickly got up and grabbed her things. "Merry Christmas Indi!" she whispered yelled as she left the house to go back to hers.
