You were scared
And so was I

"Let me have my phone!" Indigo yelled as Starr stole the object from her hands, while steering the wheel.

"Chill the fuck out" the girl rolled her eyes opening up Indigo's phone. "Why the fuck are you texting her?" she asked, her words almost slurring as looked through the texts of Kate and her girlfriend.

"Can I not text my friend?" Indigo scoffed turning in her seat to stare at the girl behind the wheel.

"You can text your friends, but not the ones you wanna fuck" Starr spoke with her voice getting louder by the word before she threw the phone in the backseat.

"I don't want that! I only want to be with you!" Indigo responded, trying to not get more pissed off. "Can we have this conversation when you're not driving?" the girl asked crossing her arms over her body. And just as she said that the blinker was turned on as they made their way to the side of the road. "What the fuck are you doing?"

"You said you wanna talk when I'm not driving, so here we are" the girl responded unbuckling her seatbelt as she turned to look at her girlfriend.

Indigo rolled her eyes as she leaned against the door behind her, "I don't want to be with Kate, we are just friends"

"If you're just friends then why did you kiss her? Hm? Explain that!" Starr moved her hands in all directions as she spoke to the girl dressed in red.

"It was a fucking game! Oh my god" she exclaimed running her fingers through her hair in disbelief. "Is that really the problem?"

"Yes, Indigo it is! I don't want my girlfriend around a girl that she's kissed before!"

"I'm not going to kiss her again! I don't see the problem!" Indigo fought back, she never wanted to get out of a car more than she did right now.

"You aren't allowed to be alone with her, got it?" she asked giving a stern look.

"Fine" Indigo agreed just wanting this stupid conversation to be done with. And with that Starr started merging back into the lane until the car was pushed across the street by another one hitting it.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion as the car was now turned to the side due to impact and Indigo's eyes kept trying to shut. She heard someone yelling, but it was muffled. She couldn't make any of the words out that they were saying.

She laid her head back on the seat as she stared up at the ceiling of the car blinking her eyes rapidly. Until one moment her eyes closed and the next second that they opened she was out in the cold wind of Iowa's winter as she was being rolled away. She tried turning her head to the side to see what was happening but it was just blocked by a nurse moving in front of her gaze.

"W-Where's Starr?" the girl managed to get out, but was met with no answer. She was placed into the cold ambulance as people around her started hooking items up to her body.

"Can you tell me your name, sweetheart?" an older woman asked.

"Indigo Lain Aro" she responded trying to sit up.

"Sorry sweet girl, but I need you to lay down" she responded with a warm smile gently laying the girl back down.

Indigo couldn't tell if the drive to the hospital was short or long, but she was just happy to be off the bumpy road and placed into a bed. She watched as nurses and doctors came in and out of the room checking on her every so often. And when a girl, who seemed to be around 30, came in she decided to speak up. "Hi, excuse me"

"Is everything ok?" she asked walked over to the side of the table.

"Can I get my phone? I have to text some people" Indigo asked, still not fully present.

The woman nodded and handed her the phone, staying close by incase she needed anything else.

The first thing the Aro girl did was text Kate, tell her she had gotten home safe, she didn't want to admit that she had been right in going with Starr. She hated being wrong.

"Thank you" she smiled setting the phone down beside her.

"You should get some rest" the woman said softly, and it was almost like that sentence was a spell as she did that immediately.

As Indigo's eyes fluttered open she was met with a blonde uncomfortably sitting in a chair across from her. Her heart basically froze as she saw the tiredness on her face, which caused the monitor to make a noise, ultimately ending in Kate looking up.

"I called your mom" Kate's voice was quiet as she spoke, "Ysa and Caitlin are here too. They're getting coffee right now" the girl said sitting up in the chair normally now.

"I'm sorry" Indigo coughed out, hot tears immediately striking her cheeks. This made Kate get up out of her chair and walk over to the girl.

Kate was upset with herself for not trying harder to get her in her car. She could've done so many things to stop this outcome from happening, but she didn't. Anytime Indigo was hurting, it was as if Kate was at the end of it. Somehow always connected.

"Hey, sh sh, it's okay" the blonde rubbed the girls shoulder as she looked down at her. "I'm just happy that you're ok, besides your broken hand"

Indigo's eyes then moved down to the cast wrapped around her hand. The girl let out a swear under her breath as she pushed her head further into the pillow.

"Why didn't you tell me the truth?" Kate asked as Indigo sat up in the bed. The dark haired girl's eyes fell to her legs as she didn't want to look Kate in the eyes.

"Because I didn't want you to be right. And I know I should've listened, and I'm sorry I didn't. I really did think it would be ok!"

"I was scared shitless when they told me you were here. Me and Sienna immediately got in the car and drove here as fast as possible" Kate responded ignoring the girls apology.

And that's when it hit her. The double date and the argument before the crash. Sadly she wasn't brain damaged enough to forget it.

"I'm not supposed to talk to you by myself" Indigo said looking up at Kate.

"What?" the blonde was completely dumbfounded. She had no idea why she wouldn't be allowed to talk to her.

"Starr said I can't talk to you alone" she let out a sigh.

"Well I don't give a fuck what she thinks. She did this to you. It's her fault you're here!" the basketball player started feeling a hot anger take over in her chest.

"I just can't ok. I don't want to be left"

"But, I won't leave you for something stupid like that" Kate responded, clearly upset that she was being told she couldn't be with her best friend since birth.

"You can't even say that, Kate" Indigo rolled her eyes, "You left me once, you might do it again. I'm giving you an out" she shrugged and this time she looked the girl in the eyes.

"Fine. Whatever"
