Chapter six, flowers
Persephone Cullen parked her white BMW in the Swan's driveway and couldn't help but notice an extra car was there. Although, she doesn't think anything of it. She grabbed the muffins and cookies from the back seat and happily walked over to the door.
She carefully knocked and smiled when Bella opened the door. "Hi, Bella. I made extra muffins earlier with Esme and we didn't want to throw them away."
Bella smiled and moved aside for Steph could walk in, "Perfect timing, come meet my friend Jacob."
Edward did inform his human mate that Steph was half-human so she still had some human traits. Like eating and sleeping. Everyone in the family was a bit jealous of the sleeping part, especially in school. Bella was both surprised and intrigued when she heard that. Steph was the only one of her kind that they knew of. Carlise had kept her hidden for years, mostly from the Volturi. Aro was unpredictable so they had no idea how he would react even with Alice's gift.
Steph walks in carefully not wanting to accidentally fall since she was wearing some heels, she turns to the living room where she sees Charlie and another man talking.
Charlie smiles when he sees the blonde Cullen, in his mind any friend of Bella was great in his eyes, "Hi, Chief Swan. Me and my mother made too many muffins, so I wanted to bring some over."
Billy immediately looked at her in suspicion, noticing how pale she was. Although he wasn't 100% certain because of her blue eyes. He also wasn't sure because no one had shifted yet so there was no communication between the cold ones other than the treaty being in place. All he knew was that the leader was working at the hospital. Even since they came to town, some people from the reservation have refused to attend that hospital.
"I would love one, thank you. And call me Charlie please," Charlie says grabbing two muffins, one for him and the other for Billy. "Hi, I'm Billy Black," He said wanting to get the girl's full name to confirm his theory.
"Persephone Cullen." The blonde watched Billy's reaction and was a little confused as to why his eyes widened in recognition as if he knew something. His stare turned blank and he felt uncomfortable being there.
Steph instantly realized maybe he was from the reservation and had heard the legends. However, only those from the tribe and family of the ancestors knew of the stories. since they grew up hearing them. Before any other words can be exchanged, Bella comes with Jacob next to her.
Jacob Black felt his eyes widen and mouth open when he saw the blonde, if it wasn't obvious there weren't many blondes in Forks or La Push. Vampires were supposed to be mesmerizing to humans, that's why every human she meets feels astonished to see her. Not just her, with every cold one out there. Carlise has a theory that she may be more compelling to humans because of her gift and human features.
Steph turned her head and saw Jacob looking at her with wide eyes, she chuckled and held her hand out, "Hi, Jacob. Bella's told me a lot about you. I'm Persephone but you can call me Steph."
Jacob instantly shook her hand, ignoring how cold it felt on his skin. "Nice to meet you, call me Jake..or whatever you want."
Everyone except for Billy chuckles at Jaocb's starstruck behavior, Persephone blushes flattered at the boy's words.
Billy couldn't pull his eyes off her, he wasn't sure if he was imagining the red in her cheek and blue eyes. But he knew she was a cold one because of her last name, Cullen.
Steph tried to ignore Billy's stare, "It's nice to meet you as well Jake, Bella has told me a lot about you."
"All good hoping." he jokes looking at Bella who nods, "Of course."
"These have to be the best muffins I've ever had." Charlie complimented causing everyone to take a bit and agree.
"Wow! Steph, these are amazing." Bella complimented a little surprised at how good they are, "It's official, I'm eating at your house every night." Bella joked causing everyone but Billy to agree and laugh.
"You're invited here anytime with these, Persephone," Charlie says, still unsure of her old name. He was a bit shocked when he first met her. The Cullen had a unique name and she was the only one in town with that name.
Except when they talked about Greek gods in school, that's actually where her name came from. Her mother had loved reading and learning about Greek history. Persephone, Goddess of Spring had been Veronica Hope's favorite so when she had her miracle baby, she immediately knew the name she wanted.
"I'm doing a project on you," Jake said but didn't really mean to say it out loud. His eyes widen when he notices everyone's eyes on him. "I mean not you! Persephone, Goddess of Spring..."
Steph laughs at the young boy, "That great Jacob, I was named after her." The boy blushed and chuckled, "Cool."
"Well, I need to get going but enjoy the muffins. It was nice to meet you." she ends the sentence looking at Jake and Billy with a smile smile.
Bella pulls her into a hug, "I'll see you tomorrow." Tomorrow Bella was coming over to meet the family of vampires officially. Steph knew the human was excited and nervous.
The vampire gave everyone a small wave and heard everyone say goodbye. She walked out and took a deep breath. Jacob and Billy gave her an odd feeling, but she ignored it. Steph will have to ask Edward about it later when she gets home from the flower shop.
"Wow, she was so beautiful." Jake says as he watches the blonde walk out, "That's the girl of my dreams," he jokes but stops when he sees the look on his father's face. Charlie Swan knew Billy wasn't a fan of the Cullens so he started to change the subject and turn on the TV.
-----
The blonde Cullen had decided to buy flowers to put around the houses to give it a little bit of light. That and she wanted new roses for her room since the ones she had were drying out. Also, Bella was coming over to meet the family so she wanted the house to look pretty with flowers.
"Hi, Mrs, Lee!" Persephone calls out to the sweet older lady who was always so kind to her.
"Hello, pretty girl. How are you?" Mrs. Lee asked smiling at the Cullen girl. Persephone was a regular customer since she moved to Forks so the older lady knew a lot about her. And liked Steph a lot, she was always trying to set her up with the grandkids who were around her age.
"I've been good, I haven't found love yet. Guess your prediction was wrong, does that mean I get those free flowers?" Steph says with a teasing voice, the older lady fancies herself a fortune teller.
A couple of weeks ago, she made a prediction saying that something huge was coming Steph's way and she was going to meet the love of her life. That hasn't happened yet. Steph didn't believe the older lady but couldn't bear to shut her down so she pretended like she believed.
"Be panist pretty girl. It hasn't happened yet." One of the reasons Persephone liked the older lady so much was because she reminded her of Alice. At least an older version of Alice. So Steph followed the game, even a part of her was curious to see if it could be true. After all, she was a huge romantic.
"So what flowers should I get?" Persephone asks the older lady with a kind smile looking all over the room. The blond liked getting different flowers every three weeks but roses were her personal favorite.
"I just got some pink tulips yesterday." Mrs. Lee says handing the girl a beautiful pink flower.
Persephone grabs the beautiful flower softly, not touching the older lady, and looks at it. These were perfect for her room. Before she could reply, a voice distracts her from behind.
"H-hi, do you by any chance have sunflowers?" A man's rough but sweet voice said from behind Steph frightening her since she hadn't felt a presence behind her.
Persephone turns away accidentally bumping into something against her heels and gasps softly when she loses her balance. But before she could fall, two larger hands grabbed her waist to balance her out. Steph quickly felt how warm his hands were, she could feel the warmth even on her ice-cold skin.
"Wow, careful." The man says softly chuckling, Persephone blushes and meets his eyes. The man looks both astonished and surprised to see how beautiful she is. He had never seen anyone this beautiful before, his own thoughts even shocked him because blondes were never his type. His type has only ever been his fiancé.
Persephone felt his warm hands still on her waist and looked down making his eyes widen, quickly pulling his hands away. The blonde immediately misses the warm feeling but ignores that thought. However, that thought appalled her since he was an unknown stranger.
"Uh, sorry." He chuckles awkwardly rubbing the back of his head. The Cullen smiles and looks at his face carefully, he is handsome. Steph couldn't take her blue eyes off him, she looked at every detail on his face. He also looked around her turned age, maybe 18-19?
"No, no. Thank you for catching me." She says softly and holds her hand out, "I'm Persephone."
The man takes her hand, quickly feeling how cold it is. But he didn't care or pay attention to that because her hand was so soft and perfect. "I'm Sam."
Wow, is she real? She's beautiful. Sam's thoughts were filled with astonishment as his eyes looked at every detail of her face. Since they lived in a small area, he'd never seen anyone with blue eyes like her before.
They were both staring at each other with smiles, Steph's was bright and Sam's was awkward. Suddenly, the blonde wishes she had Edward's gift, even for a minute to know what this man was thinking. However, she could tell it wasn't negative because of the look on his face.
The man couldn't pull her eyes away from the blonde which made the Cullen blush. A throat clears loudly behind them and Mrs. Lee is holding sunflowers. "I do have sunflowers, would you like some?"
That immediately snapped Sam out of his cheating thoughts and he winces mentally cursing himself. Knowing his thoughts were unacceptable, he looked everywhere around the room, trying not to look at the blonde again.
He looks at the lady and nodes. "Uh, yes, please. My fiancé loves those." The words came out like he was letting Steph know he was taken. However, the minute those words came out of Sam's mouth, he instantly regretted them when he saw Persephone's beautiful blue eyes widen and her face look down in disappointment. The words even felt wrong coming from his mouth.
"That's lovely." She murmured the small smile not leaving her face. It makes sense he's taken. The good ones always are, Steph thinks to herself as she watches Sam pull out money and pay for the bouquet of flowers. "The flowers are beautiful."
Stept comments trying to ignore the fact, that she was about to flirt and maybe even ask out a taken man. The blonde felt a little embarrassed which is something she hadn't felt in a very long time.
Sam looks at the blonde with a smile, appreciating her words. "Thank you, my fiancé, Leah loves them." He looks at her once again and has to physically stop himself from staring at her too much. Her eyes were truly beautiful and Sam had a feeling he wouldn't be forgetting them anytime soon.
Persephone smiles softly at Sam and blushes, "Well, thank you for catching me. I would have made a mess if it wasn't for you."
Sam rubs the back of his head, smiling back at her. "No problem, I guess I have fast reflexes." The soon-to-be wolf had been feeling odd lately so he as well was amazed at how fast he caught her.
"Have a good day." Mrs. Lee notices the obvious connection between these two but he is a taken man. So that wasn't going to happen.
Sam looks at the older lady and gives her a nod. Then he looked at Persephone who was already looking at him. "Have a nice day, Persephone. Oh, and you should get the tulips, they are beautiful." Like you, he thought but once again cursed himself for thinking that.
Persephone nods her eyes not leaving his, "You too Sam. I hope your fiancé loves the flowers. And uh congratulations." The last words felt like wrong coming out of her mouth. Which was odd, then again Steph had never met a man who'd given her that butterfly feeling. But he was taken and she was probably never going to see him again.
Sam gives the blonde one last smile before he turns around and walks out, even if his thoughts are on her as he gets into his truck.
Mrs. Lee makes a clicking sound with her pen distracting Persephone, who watches as Sam leaves.
The blonde looks at Mrs. Lee and gives an innocent smile, "Can I get five vases of roses and one of the pink tulips?"
The older lady nods writing it down, "The roses are over there so feel free to pick out any sets, the tulips will be done in a couple of minutes. The total will be $152.90."
The blue-eyed vampire lifts up her bag, takes out her wallet, and hands her two hundred dollar bills. "Keep the change."
Mrs. Lee smiles, "Thank you, sweetie. I'll be right back." As the human goes to the back to make the flower vase of tulips, Persephone stays leaning against the counter. Her thoughts still stuck on Sam. Sam had an odd feeling coming from him, the same one Steph had felt with Jacob.
Mrs. Lee came back with the vase of tulips and saw the blonde deep in her thoughts. "Sam is a nice guy, he's been dating his fiancé, Leah since high school. cute couple those two are." She tried giving the blonde a hint in the nicest way possible that he was not the guy for her. "He's been coming here for flowers since he was fifteen."
Persephone smiled at the thought, imagining seeing Sam walk through those doors since was fifteen to buy his girlfriend flowers. "That's sweet of him," she softly says not meeting the older lady's stare.
"It is, Leah's a sweet girl too. She used to work here her freshman year but she ended up leaving to help her dad in their family store. I wouldn't want anything or anyone getting in the way of them," Leah sounds like a great and lucky girl, Steph thought to herself but right away felt like Mrs. Lee was trying to tell her to back off in the nicest way possible. However, it didn't feel that way. To Persephone, it felt like the lady was giving her a warring. That made Steph feel guilty, uncomfortable, and offended.
Steph was a lot of things, a monster being one of them. But she was never and will never be a homewrecker. The Cullen felt a bit angry that Mrs. Lee would assume that about her. Even when the older lady has known her for almost a year.
The whole store felt awkward and Steph just wanted to go home and forget all the events that happened here. She grabbed one of the store's trolleys and put the vases on there, ignoring Mrs. Lee's guilty looks.
Once she finished loading them into her car carefully making sure they wouldn't fall on the way home, Steph gave Mrs. Lee a fake smile and waved before leaving. The older lady instantly felt awful for treating the blonde with such negativity and in a hostable way. She just felt protective of Leah when seeing an obvious connection between Steph and Sam.
The stares the couple were giving each other were in a romantic way, they had a spark and everyone in that room could feel it. Mrs. Lee saw it and she didn't like it. It gave her deja vu when her first husband cheated on her. The lady promised herself, she would apologize the next time Steph came by. However, what the store owner didn't know was that Persephone Cullen didn't plan on coming back anytime soon, to not only avoid Sam but her as well.
That was humiliating and embarrassing. Steph thought to herself as she drove home, I'm not going back there anytime soon.
The blonde tried to ignore her thoughts and odd feelings because she didn't want Edward to read her thoughts and ask her about them. Or Jasper to sense her feelings. Because she was probably never going to see Sam again. That and he was getting married soon.

Author notes: WOW, after counting all the votes, Sam was the fan favorite and most voted! Although, Embry was a close second. That is why I've decided to write a story for all of you who wanted Embry, I'm not sure about the plot yet. Did you want something similar but different to this obviously or something completely different? Like Angela's sister? Mike's sister?
Anyway, I want to keep hearing your opinions. Did you like this first meeting? I thought it was adorable and I loved writing it. Both were mesmerized by each other, I also wrote imprint a couple of times. But forgot he's not a wolf yet!
I also see a GIF chapter ender for this story, does anyone know how to make them? And would be willing to make me one?
Don't forget to comment, vote, or follow me to stay updated on what I'm writing!
