3: Losing Cool

You got up earlier than Tahno that morning and unfortunately, you had to admit it was hard to pry yourself out of his warm grip. But, your growling stomach was a worthy opponent and eventually it won the battle.

You took out two sets of cutlery and two plates and set them by the stove. Quietly, you cracked half a dozen eggs into a pan and clicked the fire on to start cooking them.

The eggs weren't even done by the time you heard clomping down the stairs.

"Eurghhhh..." Tahno leaned against the door frame leading to the kitchen, holding his pounding head.

"Mornin' drinkin' head." You greeted him quietly, wondering how he would be this morning.

"Stop." He responded quietly, with a dark tone.

"Stop what? Cookin'? Breathin'?" You huffed over the stove, sensing he was looking for a fight.

"Stop it!" He tossed ice at you, hitting you in the back of the head.

"Stop what!?" You turned around, face now red with fury.

"Stop talking so SWAMPY! ANYTHING BUT SWAMPY"

"Your Mama ain't raise ya like this!" You screamed at him as you threw a plate at him, watching it shatter above his head.

Tahno absolutely did not want to fall in love with a swamp girl; nevertheless one that embarrassing as you. He hated everything about that place. At least that was how he felt currently and his face showcased this hatred loud, clear and directed at you.

"Don't you love me anymore?" You whispered, chest heaving.

"I might have," Tahno sneered. "but right now I just want anyone but you."

You openly wept as you fell to the floor and Tahno slammed the kitchen door behind him. Perhaps he was going out to a bar, even this early. Or maybe going out to practice bending with his team. Or maybe he was even going to fuck another girl, plans from last night being thwarted.

You didn't know. You cared, but you didn't know. And you couldn't make yourself get up.

Why did he even bring you to Republic City? It was no place for a Swampy girl like you; Tahno was right about that. But he had dragged you all the way here, only to constantly scream at you about things you couldn't help. Even his father and mother; the Fire Lord and a blood-bender from the Swamp couldn't do anything to change his mind.

You were miserable. What did you do to deserve this? Why did you feel so obligated to stay and protect Tahno? He wasn't family in the blood sense. In fact, you hadn't been the one to take a liking to him. It was the other way around. Tahno was so persistent that even before double-digits he insisted that you come with him on any and all trips while he grew up. His mother and father were quite old, so it wasn't all that unusual to anyone that he wanted an age-appropriate companion. What was unusual was that he didn't want to let you go either. Not then. Not now.
