19: Rock
"Whatcha think' 'bout, Tahn?" You made him jump as he rowed the boats. Normally, he could have waterbent the boat around, but of course, that was no longer an option.
"Do ya need to know?" He smiled at you softly. "Can't I have secrets?"
"I don't!" You paused for a minute, hoping he would tell you anyway. "Okay, I do. But only 'cause you been distracted all day! Ming 'n Shaozu been whisked away and I been catchin' up, but you just starin' into the distance."
Suddenly, you bumped into a tree, causing you to fall forward into Tahno.
"Oof. Sorry." He apologized. "'Though I do like this position."
You pick your head up from his lap and laughed. "Of course ya do... You feelin' okay? Ya look pale..." Your hand lifted and pressed itself to his forehead. "Lil warm too..."
"I'm fine." Tahno snorted, leaned away from your hand and refused eye contact. "Honestly, even if I was sick, I ain't turnin' 'round now."
"Why?" You asked. "Seems dumb."
"Just sit and relax." Tahno put the oars up and held your hands together with his. "It's 'bout ta start."
"What i-- oh. It's the lightbug festival." You gasped as the lights began peeking out from the darkness. "I can't believe I forgot..."
"Ya told me when we were lil' it was your favorite holiday. We used to try and catch bunches of the bugs, just for ya to release."
You laughed. "And I ain't never let you have any!"
Tahno laughed back. "I ain't never needed any. They made ya so happy." He dug in his satchel on the floor of the boat and pulled out a clenched fist. "YN, you been in my life at exactly the right times: when I weren't ready, and when I needed ya love the most. In the past years, we've experienced great triumphs and literal disasters together. These trials pushed the boundaries of what we thought we could endure, and in the end, I feel more strongly connected with ya in an attempt to get up and try again. I love you dearly for all that you are. My mama gave me this. She said to give it to you when I was ready."
His palm opened to reveal a necklace; a round circle of stone.
"But that's--"
"Her necklace from my father."
"For the girl you want to--"
"For you. She always said it was for you. When I was ready to marry you." He held it out. "I've done a lot-- a lot that ain't deserve a yes to this. But if ya abl--"
"Yes!" You flung your arms around Tahno and hugged him tightly. "Yes! Oh man, forget the stupid swamp sharin' shit, I wanna be married to you! Imma be your one and only!"
Tahno laughed and placed the necklace around your neck. "I figured you would like it. I was just worried."
"I am worried." You stated.
"About what, wolf-bat?" Tahno stroked your hand.
"Are we gonna tell ya parents?"
"I suppose we gotta." He sighed, but nothing would break his good mood. Not even that thought.
