BATIM headcanons- projectionist
Why not? I love them.
Also this is useful if you're ever in a role play with me and have no idea what my characters are like (if given the opportunity, the forms I submit would need a document to fill all the info so...yeah. Anyway!!!
I meant to do most of or all of the characters but it's just Norman here!
The Projectionist
So far he's been my absolute favorite to roleplay with, he's just amazing.
Now all my knowledge of the BATIM universe comes from scouring the internet and of course the game Bendy and the Ink Machine. I've yet to play the others or read the books so...I might be missing a whole lotta info. Bear in mind, I'm only human, these headcanons are subject to change.
Anyway!
In my headcanon, Norman Polks as the projectionist is about 7'5. That's mostly due to the size of his projector head and I made that height because the darn Wikipedia was less than helpful when I wanted a specific height.
Normal Norman Polks is not seven feet tall with rats along his back, but he is 6'10.
So all the stuff added like...
Hang on lemme math.
Seven inches??? Sounds good.
Anyway, Norman can sometimes record things that he sees and encounters, saving them as memory reels.
He keeps these reels along with various cartoon reels in a bag that he carries around. Not canonical, yes, but it's a cute little detail and besides how else is he gonna carry the film reels around?
Norman can see and hear, but can't speak (although he can shriek, and that is not a pleasant experience). He communicates by writing on whatever surface he can using his finger. Why? He's made of ink and machinery pretty much. So... yeah.
Now the important detail of how would you get norman to go back to normal?
Still on the fence with this one tbh, I think so far my head canon is that Norman's body is within the projectionist form, but the ink and projector have completely overtaken it, kinda like a parasite from a resident evil game.
(And getting it out is no small task- Norman's head is the projector, the skull is inside. To get that fixed, you'd need someone who could do brain surgery and another person who was good with machinery for a chance. In addition to that, you'd need to gradually replace the ink in his body with blood, in a tedious and slow process. I'm not ruling out painful. Also the chance of survival isn't that great- I mean, given the things you need to do? Not unexpected. Please note that if you're in a roleplay with me and trying to do this (looking at you 1jhonyx ) this information is only shared between the people behind the screens. This is what happens when you make a chapter dedicated to headcanons, things like this come out.
He can be fast when he wants to. A lot of times when I send an application for him I'll put that he's "a bit like a wild animal" and I say that with good reason. Sharp claws, strength, speed, and a light for an eye means that when he's got you in his sites, there's...theres a chance you can escape. But good luck.
Thankfully, he's only in that extremely feral state within the studio. Unfortunately the time in there has dwindled his memory of how to read or write. That's why when he writes it can be hard to understand sometimes.
If you need clarification on what he says at any point, let me know!
Okay now the headcanons y'all probably wanna see.
How did he get to be that way?
In my headcanons, Norman was thrown into the machine as a punishment. What happened was mister Joey Drew (who everyone, at one point, will trash talk I'm not sorry Joey) realized that the songs were behind schedule. Sammy, who was already going insane from consuming the ink, was blamed for it, since the musical scores were terrible and kept needing revisions. Norman stepped in to take the blame instead, feeling bad for Sammy or something it's a work in progress.
Joey has Sammy hit Norman over the head with a projector, and tosses both Norman's unconscious body and the projector into the machine.
Voilà!
Anyway that's about it.
Hope you liked this headcanon dump!
