BACK IN THE OFFICE, DIONNE FELT MORE THEN READY TO TEAR PAT CARRIGAN A NEW ONE SIMPLY BY THE COMMENT HE LEFT ON HER PAGE. She need not stoop to such levels of revealing that she'd overheard his conversation. Not only would that make her seem less credible as a journalist with no proof (no one liked he-said, she-said) but she might have a lot of awkward questions to answer. Last thing she needed was to be labelled a stalker right after getting promoted.
As she marched into the office, scathing words bouncing in and around her mind she was stopped by Timothee who she almost collided with front on. "Jeez, you look like you're on mission, Di," he laughed, giving her a crooked grin. There he goes with that nickname she hated. It was too early for this, she wanted to say but instead she smiled at him politely.
"Lots of work to do," she mumbled, attempting to side step him.
He nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, for sure," he agreed before putting a hand on the small of her back. "Step into my office for a second, though, just need to do our weekly check-in."
She allowed herself to be guided into the room by him, flinching when the door shut behind them. Timothee smiled at her again and she felt a little off put. "Weekly check-ins? Since when was that a thing?" She queried, standing next to the chair adjacent to his desk rather then sitting down. "Wouldn't that be a team thing?"
Timothee shrugged, leaning back in his chair. "I put a lot of trust in you to get this interview thing running and the first episode was a success," he told her, waving off her questions before reaching into his drawer for an envelope. "I pulled a few strings and. . ." He paused from dramatic effect and she wanted to roll her eyes. His grin did not falter as he said, "I managed to get us all-access passes to the Vegas game next week."
Dionne did not know how to feel. One week into this and they're sending her to Vegas? That surely would not be a good investment for the company (and there's no way she'd pay out of pocket to go). "You're. . . sending me to Vegas. . . ? To interview footy players?" She was flabbergasted, truly.
"Correction: I'm sending us to Vegas. You're our offical NRL in Vegas coordinator," he explained, excitement prominent across his features. "This'll give you permission to visit their sheds before and after the game, invites to special events and box seats the game."
Dionne couldn't figure out which part of that sounded worst. She'd have to deal with American accents and NRL players—for an entire week. Not only that but she'd then be forced to sit and watch the game (with Timothee!).
She pointed between herself and him, trying to compute what was happening. "You. . . and me? Together? Just us?" She squinted, confused.
"Well, I can't send the whole office to Vegas," he joked, laughing at his own words which Dionne played along with.
"What about Korra?" She asked, looking out his glass door at her colleague who was sitting about three centre metres away from her screen. Obviously trying to fine tune an edit.
Timothee sent her a quizzical look. "What about her?"
"Who's going to operate the camera? I kinda thought this whole video corespondent thing was a team thing. I—I can't exactly film myself," she stuttered her way through, hating having to make suggestions to her boss.
Timothee seemed to think it over, as if waging an intense mental battle. "I mean. . . I could operate the camera," he suggested, waiting for her to crack a smile. When she didn't, he exhaled loudly. "I'll see if I can get another all-access pass," he relented, shooing her out of his office.
