My Life's A Lie
Just in case people forgot this story is not mine at all. I was granted permission to publish it in Wattpad, and I'm extremely grateful for that. And now.......
The Host Club and me: LET THE SHOW BEGIN!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
??? POV
My entire life was a freaking lie. All of it.
Why, do you ask? Well, it's because that it turns out that I'm not an orphan and that my real family is in fact some super rich family in Japan. My mom was an American and gave me up after I was born. I grew up for most of my life in foster care before finally being adopted at the age of nine.
Then, on my seventeenth birthday, it was discoveres that my biological was the head of the wealthy Japanese Hitachiin family ... I wasn't sure how to feel. I, a tomboy, was actually a debutante. Then I was secretly excited because I was actually going to meet my real family. Sadly enough, I would be greatly dissapointed.
3rd Person POV
A few weeks later in the home of the Hitachiin's, the head of the family and his wife examined the daughter. They were overly displeased with the way she looked and presented herself. "Completely unaceptable. No proper young lady should ever speak or look the way you do" Mr. Hitachiin declared bitterly. "I will not stand for it and it seems that you are too far gone to be trained as a proper young lady. With that being the case you will have to be trained to be a proper young gentleman."
The daughter looked up at her biological father in shock and disbelief. She didn't know how on earth to react to this news. All she could do was nod and give in as she was guided away by servants.
??? POV
I stood outside the front of the school with a big frown on my face. I felt so odd and vulnerable, what will all the stares I was receiving from the other students. I gently pulled nervously at the bottom of the blue blazer that made part of my uniform. The uniform looked nice, I suppose, but I felt pretty uncomfortable in it. I was pretty flat chested as I was but my bio-rents made me wear this halter top that was very constricting.
"You alright?"
I nearly had a heart attack as I spun to face the voices that had spoken in unison. I was then facing my younger twin brothers who had come up behind me when I was thinking over my uniform. "What? Oh, yeah. I'm fine." I said quickly.
They exchanged looks. "Let's go in, then." They slipped past me and headed inside the building while I managed to keep up. They weren't too much taller than I was and we were built pretty similarly, lanky that is. We also ahd the same ginger hair and golden eyes so it was pretty obvious that we were related. I had met them shortly after I was made into a "boy." My hair had been cut into a pixie cut with bangs that fell into my eyes and my entirety of clothing that I had brought with me had been changed to guys' clothing.
"This school is way bigger than schools I've been in" I murmured looking around at the high walls and massive windows.
"Yeah well, that's because you grew up an American." Hikaru said bluntly.
Ouch. That stung. I flinched and looked down quickly. Why do they hate me? Is it just because I grew up in the United States? I glanced at my schedule then decided I would simply try to find my first class.
"Here." The twins said as they motioned towards a classroom in perfect unison. "This is your first class"
I nodded and murmured a quick thank you before going into the room.
I managed to survive that class then the others that followed. Finding the classrooms was actually easier than I had originally thought and the stuff being taught were things I had already learned. I wasn't even supposed to be in high school any longer because I had graduated very early, when I was fourteen to be exact, in America. For some reason that wasn't good enough for the bio-rents and they signed me up as a third year here at Ouran Academy High School.
Finally, Lunch came around and I sighed.
"The cafeteria is just down the hall from here." The teacher informed me as I headed out of the room.
"Oh, thank you." I wasn't planning on getting lunch. I had no money and I wasn't getting any from the family. I had to "prove myself" before they ever started treating me with any money. With that being the case, I only got meals that were provided at home. After exiting the room, I just began to wander around the school. It was rather nice and peaceful with everyone preocupied with eating their fancy food. It gave me time to think over everything. I was rounding a corner when I accidently ran into someone "S-sorry!" I stuttered and I could feel my face heat up. I looked up to who I had run into and was rewarded with one of my brothers, the other right behind him.
Hikaru, the one I had run into, gave me a grumpy look. "The cafeteria's the other way, Rhys."
"I-I know. My teacher has already informed me of that." I looked away.
"Then what are you doing?" Kaoru asked, his toned less grumpy but not exactly friendly.
"Wandering..." Obviously.
"Aren't you hungry?" This time they asked in unison. They seemed to do that quite a bit.
I shock my head."Not really" I pulled the bottom of my blazar again. I didn't like to be in close proximity to hostile demeanors. "I-I figured I would g-get to know the school better" I tended to stutter whenever I got nervous. They were quiet for what seemed like ages before Hikaru replied. "Just don't get lost."
His harsh tone caused me to flinch "Of course..." I slipped past them and continued to walk. Why am I treated this way?
Kaoru's POV
We watched as he walked away. "He's pretty pathetic." Hikaru stated. "Why is he always so afraid of everything?"
I met his gaze and shrugged before turning and heading to the cafeteria. As we walked, I couldn't help but wonder,
Why are we being so cold to him?
Rhys' POV
When the final bell rang I felt somewhat depressed. I wasn't looking forward to going back home to deal with the bio-rents. I gathered up my things slowly and headed out the door. Oddly enough, waiting for me were the twins. "Oh, um, hello" I said softly. Whenever I talked I did so in a quiet voice because I was too timid to be any louder. At least here anyways, not really back home.
"The limo won't be here for a while because we have to go do stuff for the club we're in." Hikaru stated plainly and Kaoru finished, "So that means you'll have to come with us and hang out in the clubroom till we're finished."
I nodded and sighed "Alright." With that I followed them as they headed through the vastness that was the academy and stopped at Music Room #3 "A music room?"
"It was the only room available for the club to be in." Kaoru explained as they opened the doors and headed inside.
I wasn't expecting what I saw. I wasn't sure what I had expected but it surely wasn't the massive tropical scene that was in the room.
They were four other guys in the room and they were all wearing Balinese outfits. One was very tall with black hair and eyes, next to him was a very small guy with blond hair and really big brown eyes,(I remembered them vaguely from some of my classes), then there was a blonde guy with purple eyes (weird), and finally a guy slightly shorter than the blond With black hair and eyes along with glasses. "Hikaru, Kaoru! Go and get changed!" The taller blonde called and then noticed me "Who's this?"
"This is our older brother, Rhys." They said in unison and moved so that I wasn't quite so obscured which only made more nervous.
I gave a strained smile and a little wave.
"So, this is the infamous, long-lost brother!" Purple eyes exclaimed.
"He's just going to hang out here until club ours are over." The twins explained before wandering off and leaving me to my own devices with this strangers.
Purples eyes watched the twins go with a slightly confused expression. "Well, that was odd." He then turned his attention back to me. "So you're from America?"
"The United States.....If you want to be specific"
He suddenly broke into a smile. "So we have a Gaijin in our misdt!"(A/N means outside person)
I flinched at the term. "I guess so."
He didn't seem to notice my discomfort and put an arm around my shoulders.
I immediately wagged and broke away from him. "D-don't touch me."
All the guys were giving me a very surprised look.
"I'm s-sorry... I-I just don't like to be touched" I stuttered feeling embarassed once again. I looked around.
"So your name is Rhys?" Glasses asked.
I nodded.
"Oh, where are my manners!" Purple eyes suddenly burst out. "Introductions are in order! My name is Tamaki Suoh, this is Kyoya Ootori," He motioned to Glasses, "Mitsukuni Haninozuka," the same blond, "and Takashi Morinozuka" the tall black haired guy.
I nodded in response. "Very n-nice to meet you"
"You can call me Hunny and him Mori, okay?" Mitsukuni said in a high pitched and very childish voice then gave me a big smile.
I gave him a small smile in return and nodding. I was clutching at the strap of my bag so hard my knuckles were turning white. I was so freaking nervous. I wasn't sure how well I could keep the guy charade and I certainly didn't want to get into trouble if someone would find out about it. I wasn't sure to what measures I would then be punished.
"He doesn't look too bad looking" Tamaki said as if talking to himself." He could be a host."
"He's practically scared of his own shadow." Hikaru said appearing next to me now decked in his own Balinese outfit.
Kaoru then appeared on my other side, "He problably wouldn't even be able to talk to any of the girls."
I fliched at their words and inched away a bit.
Kyoya seemed to be paying us very close attention and then opened a black notebook thingy and began writing on it. His hand was moving very fluently but also very swiftly.
"I-I... W-what do y-you mean by host?" I couldn't help my curiosity.
"Well, we entretain ladies who have way too much time on their hands" Tamaki stated.
I raised my eyebrows. "Entretain? Like...Flirt? Seriously?" I was feeling somewhat degraded by this.
Tamaki frowned.
"You have a problem with it?" Kyoya asked.
"I don't know it just seems a little...degrading to women, in my opinion...maybe it's just the cultural difference talking, though." The fact that I said that without sttutering made me very pleased.
I got alot of surprised looks from everyone.
"I mean, it just all depends on how you flirt." I scrambled to repair the damage.
"How can the way we flirt be degrading?" Hikaru asked flatly.
"W-well, uh, never mind." I whispered edging away. "Like I said maybe it's just the cultural difference..."
They were all quiet for a moment.
"I think he would be a great host." Kyoya suddenly put in.
"Excuse me, what?" The twins asked in unison.
I could feel the color drain from my face. Thankfully, before they could do anything, all attention was drawn to the door where another boy had walked in. He was shorter than me and very small in build with brown hair and eyes. He seemed surprised by the state of the room as I had been And frowned greatly when a bird landed on his head.
"Finally, Haruhi." Kaoru said.
"You're so late." Hikaru finished.
Haruhi pulled out a calendar, "You know I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's still early spring."
"Hiding under a Kotatsu table fearing the cold is nonsense! Here we've created a place of everlasting summer!" Tamaki cried.
Haruhi simply rolled his eyes and came over to me. "I don't think we've met. I'm Haruhi Fujioka." He held out his hand and realized 'he' was actually a she!
I tentatively shook her hand, "Rhys-"
"Our older brother." The twins said cutting me off.
Haruhi smiled. "I can see the resemblance"
"Looks is all we have in common." Hikaru snapped vefore turning and walking away.
Haruhi seemed very surprised by that as she watched Kaoru follow him.
"Th-they dont like me very m-much." I smiled nervously
She gave me a smile in return. "So are you a host now?"
"I think he should be." Kyoya put in.
"Uh, well, I-um." I stammered.
"I think that would be a great way for you to spend time around them." She nodded towards the twins, "They might warm up to you."
I looked between here and the twins deliberating for a moment before sighing ,"I...guess I could...If that's alright." I looked back at the others.
Tamaki had a huge grin on his face. "We don't have a costume for you but that's alright! Yo can sit at that table over there."
Haruhi was kind enough to walk me over to the table and I sat down. "Um, can I ask you something?" I asked her before she could leave.
"Yeah?"'He' asked turning back to me.
"Are... Are you,um, a girl?" I whispered.
'He' broke into a smile. "Yeah, I am"
I gave her a relieved smile. "I thought you were, but I didn't just want tl asume. Especially since you're wearing a boy's uniform.
She nodded in understanding. "Are you a girl, too?"
I gave a sheepish smile. "Yeah, I am. Guess we're kinda in the same book. Did you just not like the girls' uniform?"
She shrugged. "It's alright but I have to pretend to be a guy so I can stay a host and pay off my debt."
I blinked in confusion. "Debt?"
"I accidently broke a vase that was worth eight million yen." She sighed.
My jaw dropped. "That's...something"
She laughed. "Why are you prentending to be a guy?"
I ran my hand through my hair. "My biological parents didn't think I made a very good girl so they told me to pretend to be a boy... I don't think even the twins know I'm really a girl."
She tilted her head slightly. "Really?"
I nodded.
"It's time for the club to open." Kyoya called out.
.
.
.
I sat at my own table as I observed the boys 'entretain' the clients. I wasn't sure how to feel about it. Tamaki was the princely type and did the cheesy kind of flirting. Kyoya was the cool type and didn't really do much but say compliments and write in his black notebook. Haruhi was the natural type and mainly just talks to the girls while giving some compliments here and there. Honey's the Boy-Lolita which I guess means he just acts cute and childish all the time. Mori's the strong and silent type which pretty much explains itself. He's always with Honey like package deal. Then there's my brothers... They were the mischevious type but... They pretended to be twincest-or at least I hoped they were pretending.
"Oh ladies, I almost forgot to mention. This weekend we'll be hosting a party." Tamaki said suddenly, catching my attention.
"We're throwing a party?" Haruhi said has she paused mid-step, holding a tray of teacups that she had been passing out to the guests.
I watched on in surprise.
"It's a ball" I heard Hikaru to his and Kaoru's guests. " We've even rented the school's largest hall." kaoru finished.
"Is your brother going to be there?" With that they all looked over at me.
I jumped a bit and looked down.
"Why don't you come over here?" Another girl called to me and the twins seemed surprised.
I slowly got up and made my way over. I kept looking from her to the twins, gauging their faces to see if it was okay.
Kaoru seemed alright, even a little curious about me but Hikaru was outright glaring. Still, no protests were made so I came to satnd by the table.
"Yes?" I made sure I was standing up straight and did my best to look at her in the eye.
"Are you going to be at the ball? I mean, you're a host now aren't you?" She gave me a warm smile which helped me calmed down a bit. She seemed pretty friendly.
"Um, I only became a host today so I'm, um, not sure if I'm allowed to..." I trailed off looking at the twins.
Kaoru shrugged, "I don' see why not."
Hikaru gave him a looked and turned back to me. He wasn't really glaring anymore, mostly a little confused looking. "You'd have to ask the boss."
"Hey boss!" Kaoru called out and got Tamaki's attention.
Tamaki sauntered over. "Yes?"
"Is Rhys going to be part of the ball?"
I looked at him and played with the edge of my blazer.
Tamaki smiled. "Of course! He is a host now, after all! He should be a part of all of our activities." He went to put and arm around my shoulders but thankfully seemed to remember my 'no touching' thing and let it drop back to his side.
I gave him a thankful smile and nodded. "Well, if that's the case then I will be going to the ball." I said to the girl.
She smiled wider. "I'll be looking forward to dancing with you. You look like you might be pretty good at it."
I blushed, "Um, I don't know about that."
"You don't even have formal experience dancing, do you? You are a Gaijin, after all." Hikaru said roughly.
I frowned, " I do have experience in dancing, thank you very much." I surprised myself by snapping back.
The twins seemed very shocked by this and starred at me wide eyed.
"It just depends on the type." I continued, "I'm pretty sure a ball requires ballroom dancing and I have learned how to ballroom dance. I'm not totally uncivilized." I crossed my arms and looked down.
There was silence for a while. I think Hikaru was going to make another smart comment but we were all cut off when - "I've decided"
We all turned to look at Haruhi's table where a girl was standing next to her. She had her finger's under Haruhi's chin. "You're my new favorite host."
Tamaki made a choking sound and turned white.
A little later, after the club was over and everything was cleaned up, the majority of us were gathered around a table while Tamaki was over at a table by himself angrily eating ramen. I wasn't too sure why he was so upset but it obviously had to do with that girl that had been at Haruhi's table today. "Um, I-is he okay?"
"Hey boss! Why don't stop eating commoner's ramen and come over here to help us with the party planning?" Hikaru called out to him. He and Kaoru were leaning on the table in the exact same manner.
"Does it really bother you tha Princess Kasuga has taken a liking to Haruhi?" Kaoru asked in a teasing manner.
Kyoya, who has been busily typing on his laptop, chimed in, "H e shouldn't be surprised. She's had the illness for a while now, hasn't she?"
Haruhi and I both looked at him in surprise, "What illness?"
Hikaru then slid into view but was only talking to Haruhi, "Shes's got the 'Host Hopping' disease." He stated making a stance.
"A.K.A the 'Never the Same Boy Twice' disease." Kaoru finished sliding next to him and making the exact same stance.
"Usually our customers choose a host and then see them regularly," Kyoya explained. "However, Princess Kanako tends to change her favorites, on a regular basis"
I was watching amazed that he could still type so swiftly and fluently while talking.
Honey then piped up, holding his Usa-Chan cutely, "That's right 'cause before she chose you she was with Tama-chan!"
Haruhi got and annoyed loked on her face. "Oh, so he's upset beause I took her from him?"
Tamaki then popped up out of nowhere causing me to flinch. "SHUT UP! I COULDN'T CARE LESS!" He yelled causing Honey to cry out. "I'm running out of patience!"He pointed at her, "Haruhi! It's time you started dressing like a girl!"
Haruhi sweatdropped. "Huh?"
"I don't understand how can you be so popular with the ladies when you yourself are a lady!" He continued. "No one in the entire school knows the truth except for those of us here!"
The twins suddenly slid behind him and Hikaru spoked first," She opted out takind gym classes."
Then Kaoru finished, "And the attendance numbers are mixed together so no one can tell."
Tamaki then ran across the room and came back with a huge chest with a label on the side reading "King's Personal Belongings"
I stood there stiffly, not quite sure what was going on. I looked over to Mori, Honey, and Kyoya but them three didn't really seem fazed by any of this, "What is going on?" I murmured to myself.
"He's just throwing one of his tantrums." Kyoya replied causing me to jump because I didn't think anyone heard me.
"S-So he does this often?" I asked.
He nodded, "Quite often."
I turned my attention back to Tamaki as he produced a huge portrait of Haruhi from his chest.
"Daddy wants you to go back to the way you were!" He said crying.
"Don't go blowing up my pictures without permission!" Haruhi yelled back.
"The more I look at this the more amazed I am." Hikaru said looking at the picture that was now hung on the wall. "How could this possibly become that." He was referring to another picture of Haruhi on her first day of school.
"Oh wow, you do look different." I muttered.
She cast me a sideways glance and sighing. "The day before school started one of the kids in my neighborhood got some gum in my hair." She began to explain.
I made an 'oh' face before nodding.
"It's a real pain to get gum out of long hair. So I decided to get cut it all off. I didn't care if I looked like a dude, ya know?"
At that Tamaki freaked again. "A GIRL SHOUL NEVER REFER TO HERLSELF LIKE A DUDE!" He then turned while crying, "Momma, Haruhi's using those dirty boy words again!"
Kaoru turned to Kyoya, "I'm sorry but who's 'momma'?"
"Based on club position, I assume its me" Kyoya replied, although not happily.
"Look I don't see what your crying about." Haruhi huffed "Working as a host I can pay off more of the debt. It'll never happen if I'm just an errand boy."
"Hate to change the subject," Hikaru suddenly said, "but do you have any formal dancing experience? You'll need it fot the party."
Haruhi instantly looked panicked, "Uh, no but the party doesn't have anything to do with my quota, right? I'm not interested in going to events so if I could be excused."
Tamaki, who had been crying on the floor, suddenly jumped up, "Definetly not." Hhe was abruptly very composed, "A refined gentleman must know how to dance. If you want to live the life of a host that badly, you're going show us how far you're willing to go, Haruhi. I order to master dancing the waltz in one week and you will demonstrate it to us at the ball!" Hhe said dramatically. "Or I'll tell the entire school you're a girl and knock you down back to errand boy."
"Oh wow." I mumbled. "He's serious about this." Yet again when I thought no one had heard me someone did.
"He's always like this." Kaoru said and to my surprise he wasn't mean about it.
"So Rhys," Kyoya cut in, "what about you?"
"Huh?" I jumped and turned to him.
"Do you know how to waltz?" He asked.
"Actually, y-yes. I do." They were all looking at me now and I felt very nervous.
"You do?" Tamaki asked in surprise.
I nodded. "I-I learned a few years ago"
They were all genuily surprised.
"Why did you learn?" Kaoru asked curiously.
Hikaru shot him a glance but it wasn't upset. In fact when he looked at me he was just has curious.
"U-um, well, one of my t-teachers back home knew how and o-one day in class when we h-had free time he-he decided to just t-teach us how. Something t-to just keep us ocuppied." I explained and felt even more embarrased that I had stuttered and stammered so much.
"Really? Wow" Hikaru said.
I shrugged, "He knew a l-lot of things like that"
With that it was time to go home.
