Chapter 52
Finley's P.O.V
I was nervous.
I was nervous for a multiple of reasons. 1-Luke was being moody and I wanst sure if he was drunk and yelling or just silently proclaiming his heartbreak. 2-I wasn't sure if Trey was going to appear in my room in the middle of the might or not. And 3- I was nervous about telling Eli.
I wasn't sure how he was going to react and I was worried he was going to get mad at me for not telling.
But I had to tell him, so I told myself I was going to tell him when we got a moment alone.
I was driving to school when I came up with this notion. Luke had finally been hsome early enough in the morning for me to take my car to school and I missed it. I missed driving in general. It was soothing, especially in moments like this.
I pulled into school and parked in my spot, which luckily hasn't been filled it. People tended to ignore their parking passes and just go wherever there was an open spot.
I grabbed my backpack and headed into school, taking the stairs to the basement to my locker. As I went through my combination (24-38-8) Calla approached me.
"Hey," she greeted."
"Hey," I replied, pulling my lock off. "What's up?"
"I want to take As ton out on a date," she said bluntly. "Help."
"What do you need help with?" I asked, dropping my math book on a shelf.
"I don't know what to do," she whined. "Help me Finley."
"I would suggest not a restaurant," I said tactfully.
Calla nodded in agreement. "I thought about that, but then where should I take her?"
"She likes movies," I said, shutting my locker. "And music."
"Yeah, I know that!" Calla said. "But what should I do for a date?"
I did my best not to laugh. "There's this festival going on this weekend at this church in town. Take her there. There will be bands playing and stuff, and rides. Kind of like a carnival."
Calla's eyes lit up. "Thars a great idea!"
"Well, I try," I chuckled.
Just then, the bell rang. "Thanks Finley!" Calla gave me a quick hug before dashing off.
I laughed quietly to myself, shaking my head slightly. Calla was hilarious.
...
In government, which was my second hour, Ashton came up to me. "Guess what?"
"Chicken butt," I said, turning around
Her face momentarily looked annoyed but immediately she smiled again. "Calla asked me out on a date!" She squealed.
I stifled a laugh. "Really?"
"Yes!" She said, almost jumping up and down in excitement. "I'm so excited! She was talking about this carnival fair thingy and I can't wait!"
She babbled on, looking and sounding so excited that I smiled to myself. Love truly was beautiful.
...
There was a new student. I leanred this is Biology, when the teacher introduced her. Her name was Alex and she was wearing all black and had a lip ring like Eli's and a lot of piercings in her ears, with dark hair that was dip-dyed red and she had earbuds in her ears and she hid her face behind her hair and Eli stiffened when he saw her.
"What?" I whispered.
"Nothing," he whispered, but his tense muscles told me otherwise.
"What?" I whispered more harshly and Eli let out a sigh.
"I know her," he said.
My brows furrowed. "From where? She just moved here."
"She moved back," Eli corrected. "I, um, I used to date her."
My eyes narrowed. "Any other secret exes that I need to know about?"
Much to my irritation, Eli chuckled and threw an arm around my shoulder, pressing a kiss to my temple. "You're so cute when you're jealous. Its like an angry mouse."
I pouted and crossed my arms. "I'm serious. Any other exes?"
"No," Eli said. "Just Alex and Brooke. Alex... um, she gave me the idea to get my lip ring."
I shot her a glance. She was sitting in the back of the class with her earbuds in. "I owe her then," I said.
Eli chuckle and kissed my temple. "Glad you think so."
Suddenly, the intercom crackled to life. "Finley Collins to the Guidance Office, Finley Collins to the Guidance Office."
Everyone looked at me as I slowly got up.
"What did you do?" Eli whispered.
I shrugged. "I dunno."
"Eli wiped awat a false tear. "Aw, look at my baby, being a rebel."
"Shut up," I hissed before leaving.
I made my way to the Guidance Office, where I slowly pushed open the door. The office appeared pretty emypty save for one lady tapping away at a computer. I approached her hesitantly.
She heard me coming and looked up. "Finley Collins?" She asked. At my nod she continued. "Right there. First door on the left."
I nodded my thanks and knocked on the door before entering. A kindly looking woman in glasses was seated at a desk and Trey was sitting in one of the chairs opposite her. My heart did a little stutter when I saw him.
"Ms. Collins," the lady said. "I'm Mrs. Kempf, and I'm your guidance counselor. I understand you had a little tussle with Mr. Fuller here?"
I nodded, still standing.
Mrs. Kempf continued. "He turned himself in, and has apologized for his actions, but you know that he will be held accountable for his actions, and I called you here to see if your story matched up with his."
She geatured for me to sit down and I did, as far away from Trey as possible.
"Mr. Fuller," she said, turning to him. "If you could please step out of the room."
He got up and left wordlessly.
It seems like both of us weren't talking today.
Mrs. Kempf smiled at me. "Trey told me that he attacked you with the intent to rape you, is that correct?"
I nodded.
"But he only managed to tackle you, because you screamed and had an anxiety attack, correct?"
I nodded again. Her attitude was making me slightly nervous.
"And he threw up and apologized, and you told him that you wouldn't tell anyone because he didn't actually do anything?"
I nodded, but felt compelled to speak. "I w-was going t-to report h-him t today. My f-friend talked s-some sense into m me."
"Good," Mrs. Kempf said. "Rape is a very serious matter. Police will get involved with this, and Trey could face jail time. It might not be severe, as he didn't touch you intimately, but he most likely will do some time."
I nodded.
"Are you unhappy with this?" She asked, leaning forward.
I shook my head. "N-No, but c-couldn't the c-case be d-dropped because he d-didn't touch m me?"
"Ah, yes, there is that," she said. "Yes, that is a possibility, but here at school he will most likely be expelled."
I nodded.
Mrs. Kempf surveyed me before leaning back and sighing. "Ms. Collins, Trey is schizophrenic."
My eyes widened. What?
She nodded gravely when she caught sight of my expression. "That's why he does what he does. He's explained that the voices in his head tell him to do bad things, like rape you, and he is the one who stops himself from doing it. He also told me about Mika Clitton told him to do it, and he proved it, so she will be punished as well and told to leave you alone. Any questions?"
"Is that why he turned himself in?" I whispered. "Because the voices told him to.do bad things and this was the only way he could stop them?"
Mrs. Kempf nodded. "He has also said that he tries to do good things, but the voices convince him otherwise, then he comes to his senses. Because of that, he probably will go to a physicatric hospital instead of jail."
I nodded. "I don't really blame him for what he did. Since he apologized and now it turns out he's schizophrenic, I guess he really wasn't in control of himself."
"That's very noble of you," Mrs. Kempf said. "So I'll keep you up to speed on his case?"
"That'd be great," I said, standing up.
"It was nice to meet you, Ms. Collins," Mrs. Kempf said, standing up as well.
I left, passing Trey on the way out. I didn't make eye contact and I found ElI waiting outside for me.
"What," he asked, eyes flashing. "Were you doing in the office with Trey Fuller?"
