Chapter 10
Finley's P.O.V
I don't know who decided that all high schools are full of drama and that there is always that one "most popular guy in school/bad boy/hot jock, but that's simply not true. In high school, you don't know everyone's name, you don't really talk to people not in your grade, and you definitely don't always fall for the bad boy. At least, in my case, that's how it was.
I don't know everyone's name, heck; I don't even know everyone's name in my grade, much less the whole school. I haven't the faintest clue of who the most popular boy and girl in school are, and it's not that I'm dense, I just simply can't tell. There isn't a lot of communication between the sophomores and juniors and seniors; we just kind of ignore each other and all pick on the freshmen. We kind of ignore everyone that isn't our friend.
So all the books that say there is that one boy lie. There isn't that one boy. At least, not for the whole school. But there is one for me, and he goes by the name of Eli Sanders.
Speaking of Eli, he's sat across from me, struggling to read through a math word problem as we sit in the library. I smiled at him, secretly thinking he's being adorable at the moment, even though he's struggling greatly.
Eli wasn't lying when he said he was bad at math, and I had my work cut out for me. I stopped Eli in the middle of his sentence.
"Okay, l-let's focus on something else," I said.
Eli frowned, confused. "Like what?"
"You could tell me about your lip ring," I suggested.
Eli's lips turned up in a smile. "I think you're forgetting our deal, Fin. If I tell you, you have to tell me."
I frowned when I remembered the rule. "Oh yeah."
Eli chuckled. "Oh yeah is right."
"Shut up," I pushed him so he almost fell out of his chair.
Eli caught himself and narrowed his eyes at me. I sunk down in my chair and kept my eyes on him, as he had a devious look in his eyes. Eli smiled and that's when I knew what was coming.
"No," I warned him, getting up and slowly backing away.
"No?" Eli raised an eyebrow, still smirking.
"No," I confirmed, turning on my heel and start running.
Eli immediately gave chase, following me as I ran across the library, silently praising God for having the librarian in the front while we were in the back, and I was about to turn a corner when I tripped over a beanbag for kids and fell on it with an oomph.
Eli flung himself on the beanbag and rolled over so he was facing me. He propped himself up on one arm and carefully pushed a piece of hair out of my face.
Eli and I had been hanging out almost constantly for the past month, give or take a couple days, and we'd grown close enough to touch each other without feeling weird. I would still sometimes stutter around him, and I still had anxiety attacks, but only when he wasn't around, which actually, was a lot during school. Eli was Eli, and he was actually quite sarcastic and perverted, which I wasn't completely appreciative of, but I took what I could get, I mean, I kind of harbored a tiny little crush on him, after all.
"You fell," he whispered.
"I got that, thanks," I whispered back.
"So how are you?" Eli asked.
"How are you? Really?" I said skeptically.
"What do you want me to say?" Eli said quietly.
"I dunno, that's for you to find out," I said, getting up and brushing myself off before skipping back towards our books.
"Fin," Eli groaned. "Come back here."
"Nope!" I called over my shoulders. "I have to get home!"
Eli grumbled but got up and walked over to me, putting his arms around my waist and whispering in my ear, "Hey, we should just stay here forever."
"What? Why?" I asked, as if is idea was ludicrous, but the part of me that was crushing on him squealed loudly.
"Because here we can just chill," Eli murmured. "And I like hanging out with you."
"I l-like hanging out with you t-too," I stuttered, feeling slightly embarrassed about it.
"Why, Ms. Collins," Eli whispered. "Are you nervous?"
"N-No!" my stutter gave it away.
Eli's chest vibrated as he chuckled, and he continued to laugh and hold me until someone interrupted us.
"Finley? What are you doing here?"
I opened my eyes and saw Luke standing there looking more confused than angry, which was good, and I sighed as Eli immediately released me scratched at the back of his neck.
"What are you doing here, is more likely," I said. "At least I study at libraries." Luke raised an eyebrow at Eli, who dropped his hands and fiddled with his lip ring. "Tutoring him," I explained, gesturing at Eli.
"Pretty cozy study session," Luke remarked.
I bit my lip as I tried to turn the conversation away from me and Eli. "So why are you here?"
"Oh," Luke said, looking a little embarrassed now. "Um, Allie made me come with her so she can get a book."
I smirked, finding an opportunity to tease Luke. "So you're here with Allie, eh? How is she? She made you come to a library, you must really like her!"
Luke shifted on his feet. "Yeah, well, I-"
A girl came up to us and wrapped an arm around Luke's waist. She was really short, like five foot zero short, and her brown hair was a mess of curls. Her warm brown eyes were framed by huge black glasses that managed to look hip and nerdy at the same time. She was wearing a sweater along with jeans and some boots that I was immediately jealous of, considering I loved boots but never had any.
"You ready to go, Luke?" she said, looking up at him innocently.
Ah, she had a slight accent, Australian maybe, which was adorable. I mentally wished I had her accent, which I do with almost every person I met with accents.
"Yeah, what'd you get babe?" Luke asked, looking down at her.
I mentally cooed at the sight of them together, Allie, the adorable short goody-goody and my brother, the badass six foot tall bad boy. They suit each other, I thought wryly as Luke smiled down at her.
"Sarah Dessen," Allie said, tilting the book in her hands to show him the cover. "This Lullaby."
"Didn't you read all of the Sarah Dessen books already?" Luke questioned, taking the book from her.
"Yeah," Allie said, adjusted her glasses. "But I love this one a lot and I only read it once!"
Luke chuckled at her before handing it back to Allie and bending his knees slightly to give her a kiss on the forehead.
This time I really did aww out loud, so Allie turned to look at me and noticed me for the first time. "Who is this?" she asked.
"Allie, this is my sister Finley, Finley, this is my girlfriend Allie," Luke said, a slight blush visible on his cheeks.
"H-Hi," I smiled. "Nice t-to meet y-you."
Allie smiled back. "Nice to meet you too, Finley."
Eli came up behind me and rubbed my back, comforting me as he knew I hated meeting new people.
"And who's this?" Allie asked a slightly knowing smile on her face.
"That's Eli, her boyfriend," Luke introduced Eli for me. "Now we have to get home, Finley, you coming with us? You have to be home soon anyway.
"Y-Yeah," I answered. "Just l-let me g-get my s-stuff."
Eli helped me gather my things and as I was about to walk out of the library, he said, "You never corrected Luke when he said I was your boyfriend."

Hey guys :) So, I'm happy with this chapter. We get to meet Allie! My question for you guys, what do you like about this book? I like that's it's about a girl who's close with her family but they don't know a lot about her and a boy who's a bad boy but not really one at all. so yeah, what's your point of view? (self promo alert) i started a new story, and it has one comment, and i literally freaked the flip out because i thought no one would read it bc its kind of a dark and nasty book but hey, i need to release that part of my mind. so yeah, can i please get more comments? i think i appreciate comments more than votes, is that bad? and i've realized i'm rambling, so i''ll leave you to whatever you lovely people do :) Bye!
Love ya!
