30- Heartache
Antonio heard Harlow yelling and ran up the stairs, into the bedroom, finding her in the bathroom in tears and rushed over to her. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"I don't know. I'm bleeding," she cried.
He wrapped his arms around her, kissing the top of her head. "I'm sorry Hun, I'll call Ethan and will see if he can watch the girls so I can bring you in."
"I knew something wasn't right, I could feel it," she said, clinging onto him tighter.
With her bleeding, he had a bad feeling it wasn't going to be good news, and called Ethan. While he was on the phone, Harlow sat in the bathroom in tears, praying everything will be okay. She may not have been ready for another child, but after hearing the doctor tell her she was pregnant again, melted her heart and felt overjoyed with the news. To see she was bleeding, broke her heart.
Ethan arrived and instead of being his quirky ole self, his soft side kicked in, showing his concern for Harlow. There was one thing he didn't like and that was seeing his sister hurting and gave her a hug, wishing her well.
Antonio finally got Harlow over to the hospital and once she was settled into a room, he held her in his arms, trying to console her. "I'm hoping nothing is wrong, but I've heard this happens quite often. If something isn't right, we must realize this is God's way of saying there is something wrong and he's bringing the baby home to him," he said quietly, trailing his fingers through her hair.
"Antonio, how do you go from being overjoyed with wonderful news, to sudden sadness in less than a day?"
He lowered his head. resting his chin on the top of her head and closed his eyes. "I know it's hard to understand and it's something we'll never understand, but we have to remain positive."
"Just know, no matter what happens, I still love you."
The doctor opened the curtain, closing it as he entered the room and looked down at his clipboard. "I understand you found out from the doctor this morning, you were pregnant and now you're bleeding. Is this correct?"
"Yes."
"Were you having any cramping or discomfort today?" he asked.
"I was, but I didn't think anything of it. The cramping I assumed was gas, and the backache I thought was from lifting one of the girls wrong."
The doctor scratched the top of his head, then looked at her with concern. "Have you noticed any blood clotting?" he asked lowering his clipboard to his side.
"No, just spotting."
"Sometimes, you'll notice spotting while pregnant and it can be normal, but we'll see what's going on here," he said, leaving to find a nurse.
They were feeling optimistic with the doctor's words and while waiting for the doctor to return, they continued praying everything would be okay. A nurse finally came in and had them follow her over to the ultrasound room.
As Harlow laid on the examining table, the nurse roamed the wand around her stomach, spotting the baby. She noticed it wasn't moving, didn't see a heartbeat and looked at Harlow. "I'll be right back; I'm going to get the doctor."
Harlow laid still with her hands covering her face, fighting the tears that found its way out of her eyes. Antonio knew she was hurting. He too was feeling hurt and remained quiet, not wanting to say the wrong thing and upset her. Feeling frustrated, he started rubbing his face hard, wishing he could take all her pain away.
The doctor came in, sat down next to the machine and began looking to see what the nurse found. After confirming the nurse's suspicions, he looked over to Harlow and Antonio, giving them the news. "I'm sorry you two," he said, explaining the baby wasn't going to make it, how it will pass on its own and will leave a large clot.
They left the hospital feeling heartbroken, making it for a quiet ride home. The moment he pulled into the driveway and before he could place the vehicle into park, she opened the door, hopped out, and ran towards the house. He sighed and leaned his head back against the seat, sitting there for a few minutes, knowing that once he got inside, it was going to be a long night.
After sitting outside long enough and not wanting to upset her, any more than she already was, he went inside, sat down on the couch and lowered his head in his hands.
"I take it didn't go so well?" Ethan asked sadly and quietly.
Antonio shook his head.
"I didn't think so after seeing Harlow running up the stairs in tears."
Antonio heavily sighed, lowering his hands and turning his head towards Ethan. "This was one of the things she was afraid of with the girls, losing them."
"But she didn't, they're still here. I don't mean to sound cold or cruel, but it's not like you guys can't try for more. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that and it must hurt knowing you just miscarried a baby. That has to suck knowing a part of you isn't going to make it. But you're both young, and have plenty of time to try for more."
"I know. Try telling her that... I need a damn drink; would you like one?"
Ethan shrugged his shoulders and smirked. "Sure, why not."
Antonio figured the two could have a couple drinks and talk, and headed downstairs. "I'm a little worried about her, she just got over the depression she was in after having the girls, and now this... I'm afraid it may set her back again," Antonio said with a heavy heart.
"I know my sister, she'll come around. Now that this happened, it'll just make her want to try for another one. On the plus side, she's lucky she didn't know she was pregnant for long, and, she wasn't far enough along for her to get too attached."
"True, but it's still not a good feeling."
After playing a few games of pool and talking for a while, Antonio noticed it was getting late, decided to make it a night and felt he should check on Harlow.
"Thanks for watching the girls," Antonio said as he walked Ethan to the door.
"No problem, you both know you can call me anytime and that I'll be there for the two of you."
"I know and it's greatly appreciated."
"Have a good night and thanks again."
Antonio checked on the girls, saw they were asleep, then checked on Harlow. As he walked into the bedroom and saw her still lying in bed and staring at the ceiling, he walked over to her. "How are you doing?"
"I'm okay," she sighed. "It just hurts knowing you lost a baby." She rolled onto her side and looked at him. "This just makes me more determined to try for another one."
Antonio smiled and kneeled to the ground. He cupped the side of her face and pressed his lips to hers. "And we will."
******
Months have passed and the girls were now a year and a half. Harlow was feeling discouraged after having a few more miscarriages and was ready to give up. Antonio wanted to do something special for her and decided to take her on a trip, far away from everything. He set everything up with Harlow's parents to watch the girls for a few days, then surprised Harlow by bringing her to the airport.
"Where are we going?" she asked when he pulled into his parking spot.
"I'm taking you away for a few days. Something we both need."
"But the girls?"
He turned towards her and smiled. "That's all been taken care of. Your parents have them and we're only going to be gone for a few days. I packed your bag and it's already inside the plane."
Harlow twisted her lips; she didn't want to leave the girls and started feeling sad. This would be the first time away from the girls and wasn't feeling too thrilled about leaving them behind. Antonio opened his door and walked over to her side, opening her door and reaching for her hand. "Don't worry about a thing. The girls are in safe hands and you need this little mini vacation," he said. When she wouldn't get out of the car, he sighed, still holding out his hand. "Come on, this will be just what you need."
He finally got her into the plane, sat her down and as she in her seat thinking about the girls, the more worried she became. "I'm having a hard time leaving them behind."
"Relax, the girls will be just fine. Besides, this will be good for you, and, us."
"So, where are we going?" she asked, trying to relax herself.
A smile crept up his face after seeing a smile come out of her, and rested his hand on her thigh. "I rented a cabin in Alaska. Away from everyone. It'll be a place for us to relax and to spend alone time with each other. With being far away from everything, I'm hoping to revive what has been lost within this past year."
"Alaska?"
"Yes. We'll be surrounded by the beautiful snowy mountains, out in the middle of nowhere. The best part about it is, it'll be just us..."
They finally arrived in Anchorage, rented a car and along the way, he stopped to grab groceries, wine, and some other necessities needed. A couples later, they arrived at the cabin and just in time for it to start snowing.
"How did you find this place?" she asked in awe as she looked around, liking what she was seeing.
"Ethan found it. One of our clients mentioned he had a cabin he was thinking about renting and after Ethan explained what had been going on with you, they worked out a weekend deal for us."
"It's beautiful. My brother may be a clown and a jerk sometimes, but one thing I know about him is, he has a big heart. He has always looked out for me, and has done things to make sure I'm happy."
"He means well."
"Yes, he does... remind me to thank him when we get back home."
They went inside the cabin and looked around. "I'm going to grab the groceries while you continue checking the place out."
"Okay."
She loved the layout and felt it would be a place she would love for them to have. She stood in front of the fireplace, staring at the stonework, thinking how she wouldn't mind having a real fire, being the one at home, in their room was a gas fireplace.
He walked in, saw her holding her arms looking like she was cold and stepped back outside to grab some wood.
"You looked cold." he said as he walked back in with an arm full of wood.
"I'm a little cold. I was just admiring the stonework, it's beautiful."
"It is."
He started a fire, then insisted she sit and relax, letting her know he was going to cook dinner for her. All he wanted was for her to be as relaxed as she could, not having to worry about a thing. While he was making dinner, she walked in to the kitchen with a sad look on her face. "Is something the matter?" he asked.
She sat down and set her phone on top of the table. "I tried calling to check on the girls, but we have no service," she pouted.
He walked away from the stove and over to her with a smile. "That was the whole point of this. No phones, nothing. Just us, and nothing to worry about for three days. Believe me, the girls are fine. They're with your parents, and Ethan will be there to help."
Her brows drew together. "You knew we wouldn't have any service? Why didn't you tell me? I would have called back when there was service available."
"Because, I knew you would freak out. Relax. Just enjoy yourself, will you? The whole point of this mini getaway is for it to be just us, no phones, no service, no nothing. Sorta primitive like," he winked, then walked over to her and leaned down, kissing her on the lips. "Three days..."
He stood straight and walked back over to the stove, wanting to finish making dinner. She walked back over to the fire and kneeled in front of it, sighing as she thought about her kids.
After dinner, he grabbed blankets and pillows. Harlow quietly sat on the couch, watching him lay them on the ground in front of the fire. He then placed more wood into the fire and lowered the lights. Laid down on the blankets and looked at her. "Come lay with me."
As she laid next to him, he rolled onto his side and propped himself up to look at her. "I know you're not liking being away from the kids, but this was something we needed to do. It's been a rough year for us and I just wanted to show, how much you mean to me," he said caressing her face.
"I know..."
He lowered his lips to hers, giving her a warm, loving, passionate kiss. With the kiss turning heated and their bodies warming with desire. She parted her lips to breathe and helped take off his shirt, before taking off hers. Both laying naked and feeling warm from the fire.
He rolled on top of her and began devouring her neck, moving his kisses all over her body that sent jolts of electricity throughout her body.
He lowered himself down, parted her legs, and dipped into the pie. Slowly massaging his tongue against her clit. The longer his tongue satisfied her below, the closer she was to orgasming and moaned while bucking her hips up high.
She reached down, grabbed a fist full of the blankets, and moaned louder. Panting, the more excited she became, then squealed when she felt his tongue thrust inside her, tickling her insides. Causing her to moan and squirm like there was no tomorrow. Her body shook, and her toes curled as she hit her arousal, releasing herself onto his tongue. Screaming his name over and over, until her orgasm finished. She reached down and pulled him up to her, wanting her lips against his.
She wrapped her arms tightly around him, kissing him with demand, and begging him to place himself inside her. He did as he was told and sunk himself inside of her, giving her the pleasure, she wanted and begged for.
They rolled back and forth, taking turns to who was on top. She liked being on top with having the feeling of him being deeply inside her. He wanted to be in control again and rolled her to her back, thrusting deeply into her, then thrusted faster the closer he was nearing his orgasm.
He slowed his thrusts and lowered his lips to hers, kissing her with love. Goosebumps started forming all over his body and pushed himself up, wanting to look at her until they were done making love.
"I love you, don't ever forget that." he whispered.
They made love throughout the night, until the sun came up and until they wore themselves out, and fell asleep. With no kids to awake to and nobody to interrupt them, they slept in each other's arms nearly the entire day.
Later, Antonio looked around the cabin, looking to see if there was something they could do for fun. Finding a couple sleds, he smiled, walked inside and saw Harlow standing at a window, staring at the mountains. He walked up behind her, wrapped his arms around her waist and lowered his mouth to her neck. "I found a couple sleds; would you like to go find a hill to go sledding on?"
She turned around and pulled him in for a kiss. "I'd love to. I haven't gone sledding since I was little," she smiled. "But I don't have anything to wear. Did you even pack our outdoor gear?"
"I planned ahead; I had a feeling we would end up outside one of the days we we're here," he grinned. "Plus, I was informed they have stuff here that we could wear and got the go ahead to use if needed."
They changed into their warm clothing, the outerwear and headed outside, looking around for a hill and finding a steep hill nearby. They headed towards the hill with both laughing as they walked towards the top.
"Glad we're not out of shape, that was a workout," he chuckled while setting the sled down. He sat on the sled, reached for her hand and had her sit in front of him. As he wrapped his one arm around her, he pushed off with his other hand. She squealed as they went down the hill faster than she thought they would, laughing the entire way down to the bottom.
They walked back up the hill and got ready to slide down it again. "I feel like a little kid again," she giggled. "I cannot wait to do this with the girls. I forgot how much fun it is." she smiled. Her smile was contagious, that it had him smiling, feeling better to see her smile and laugh again. And to see her having a good time.
He wiggled his finger at her, wanting her to come over to him. She smiled, took a step closer and as she got closer, he cupped the back of her head and pulled her in for a kiss. He parted from her lips and chuckled. "I'm glad to see I can make you come with one finger."
She giggled and playfully shoved him. "Pig."
"I'm serious," he chuckled. "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself and having fun. Seeing you smile, and laugh, just made my whole weekend."
