1- Moving away from Italy
Antonio graduated high school at the early age of sixteen and immediately enrolled into law school. After five years of schooling, passing the bar exam and eighteen months of being under traineeship, he was finally hired by a well-known law firm, hoping to become the next hot shot attorney in Italy.
While in law school, Antonio also learned how to speak the English language, becoming fluent in English, which also helped him take on civil cases of the English speaking in Italy.
He was becoming a prominent attorney early in his career and wanted to further his career by learning the Italian criminal laws to become a criminal attorney. While taking on his civil cases, he did just that and became a criminal attorney. Feeling confident with himself, he took on some criminal cases, winning each case.
His parents, Giorgia and Giovanni, called him one night asking to meet them for dinner at an upscale restaurant, a place where his parents visited frequently. Upon walking into the establishment, he saw where his parents were seated and started walking towards the table. As he approached, they stood, with his mother reaching out to him. "Mother, it's been a while," he said hugging her, then turned to his father. "Father, nice to see you again," he said, shaking his hand before sitting down. "What's the occasion?" he asked as he sat and scooted his chair closer to the table.
Giovanni grabbed the bottle of wine sitting on the table, poured Antonio a glass and handed it to him. "Your mother and I have something we would like to talk to you about."
Antonio nodded his head and picked up the menu, looking at it quick after noticing the seriousness in his father's eyes and as their waitress approached the table asking if they were ready to order. He knew it had to be about something important for them to ask he meet them there. After ordering their meals, Antonio picked up his wine, took a sip, then looked back and forth from his father, to his mother as he set his glass back onto the table. "So, what did you two have to talk to me about?"
"We've sold our home, and it looks like we're moving to Paris." Giovanni explained, smiling as he looked at Giorgia.
"Paris? Why Paris?" Antonio asked surprised.
"I need a change of scenery and it's one of the most romantic cities on this planet," Giorgia said with a smile.
"More of a tourist attraction if you ask me." Antonio groaned, feeling displeased with their decision.
Giorgia could tell the hostility in Antonio's voice and cleared her throat as she picked up her glass of wine. "We were thinking you might like to move with us and become an attorney out there. I heard they're looking for good attorney's, just like you," she said taking a sip of her wine, hoping he would change his mind and move to Paris with them.
Antonio sat quietly for a bit, thinking about what they were saying and thinking about what he too had been up to. As their food arrived, he laid his napkin across his lap and after their waitress left the table, he stared at his food before taking a bite, wondering what to say to them. He wanted to mention how he too has been making plans and now that he knows they're moving away, he felt it's the right time to let them know what he'll be doing.
Antonio took a bite of his food and looked at his mother, hoping what he has to say, she won't make a scene. "It's kind of ironic how you asked me out to dinner, I also have been wanting to ask you both out to dinner," he smiled feeling excited, yet nervous to tell them what he plans on doing.
"Oh, how come?" Giovanni curiously asked with his mouth full of food.
"Well... I've been making some big plans of my own. A while back I applied for a US green card and was approved. To speed up the process, I flew to New York, took the citizenship test and was interviewed to become a citizen of the United States of America, then flew out to Montana, bought some business properties and looked for a job, where I was hired at a law firm."
Giorgia's face fell, then choked on her food. She quickly reached for her glass of water and chugged on her water, wanting to wash down the food that was stuck in her throat. "I'm sorry, you're what?"
"I'm moving to the United States."
"Why there?" Giorgia asked, feeling as if she were about to faint.
"It's the land of opportunities and, I strongly believe I can make my fortune there," he said smiling, looking back and forth at his parents.
"But you can do that here, there's plenty of money to be made here." Giorgia said, hoping to change his mind, not wanting him to move so far away, especially to the United States.
Giovanni looked at Giorgia, forming his brows together. "If he feels that's what he needs to do and wants to move to the United States, then, we need to support his decision."
"But?"
"No buts, just support him. He's old enough to make his own decisions and I believe he can do what it takes to be where he wants to be."
"Thank you, father," he said relieved. He knew his father would be okay and knew his mother would act like she's being now, a drama queen.
Giorgia remained quiet throughout the rest of their dinner and while they were standing outside, waiting for valet to bring them their vehicles, Giovanni walked over to Antonio, giving him a hug. "I wish you all the best, son."
"Thanks, I also want you both to enjoy living in Paris," Antonio replied while looking at his mom.
Giorgia broke her silence and walked over to Antonio, giving him a hug. "I do wish you would change your mind, you'll be so far away from us."
He hugged her tighter, then kissed her cheek. "I'll still come and visit." He pulled back, looked at her and wiped away her tears. "I promise."
Giorgia felt her heart breaking, feeling she was never going to see him again. She took a step back and took in some deep breaths of the fresh air, trying not to cry. "When do you leave?" she asked.
"Next week."
Giorgia's mouth dropped and widened her eyes. "Next week? Why so soon?"
"I promise I'll stop by before I leave."
For the next week, Antonio got all his belongings packed and ready to be shipped, excited for his next adventure in life. And for his last night in Italy, the guys he worked with at the law firm, took him out and partied through all hours of the night.
The guys were sitting at a table getting ready to do a shot, when a young blonde walked over to their table and sat on Antonio's lap. Antonio tried focusing his eyes on her and drunkenly smiled, "Can I help you?" he asked slurring his words.
She softly traced her finger along his jawline and looked at him full of lust. "I was looking to have a good time tonight, you wouldn't happen to know of anyone, would you?" she asked seductively.
Antonio raised an eyebrow and grinned as he looked over at the guys who were staring at the woman on his lap, hooting and hollering for him to go for it. He looked back at the woman and cupped the side of her cheek. "Sorry chickee, but that wouldn't be me. As much as I would love to take you up on your offer, it's not happening, not tonight."
"Ah, come on man!" Lorenzo, his business partner yelled out, surprised. "You've got a hot blonde sitting on your lap, asking for a one-night stand and you're turning it down?"
"Yes, I am," he says, helping her off his lap. He waved his hand around the table while looking at her. "Maybe perhaps you'll like to have your fun with one of these fine gentlemen."
She leaned forward and pressed her lips against his. "I'm only interested in you," she said quietly, staring into his eyes.
Antonio gulped, he thought she was extremely sexy, but knew it would have been out of his character to sleep with just anyone, not to mention, he was still a virgin, saving himself for the one. He smiled and traced her bottom lip with his thumb, then slid his hand under her chin and turned her head towards Lorenzo. "Give him a try, you'll like him better."
She looked at him, winking. "No thanks, but thanks anyway." She began walking away and looked back at them as she walked. "Have a good night boys." The guys all made sounds of disappointment when she walked away, then began giving him a hard time for turning her down.
"Sorry guys, but the one for me is out there and she isn't the one."
Lorenzo face palmed, shaking his head. "I paid good money for her," he said disappointed. "I figured you would have gone for her..."
Antonio laughed, "I'm not stupid, I knew what was going on. Why do you think I offered her to you? I had a feeling you're the one who set it up," he said, picking up his drink and chuckling while trying to drink. He set his empty glass down and looked at Lorenzo. "I'm no dummy and smarter than you think I am."
Lorenzo sat still, shaking his head. Still shocked Antonio didn't take the bait. All he wanted, was for him to finally get laid before he went out looking for the one.
The guys did one more round of shots before saying their final goodbyes and heading home for the night. Antonio was feeling no pain and barley made it inside his apartment, as he walked inside and looked around, he panicked, I've been robbed, he slurred.
He grabbed his phone out of his pocket and looked at his phone, trying to focus on the numbers so he could call the police. He smacked his forehead and laughed after he remembered the movers were coming to get all his things earlier in the day and to have them shipped to where he was moving to. He dropped his phone, then sat down on the carpet and passed out.
The next morning, he woke up and stared at the ceiling, holding his head while groaning. He sat up and looked at the time. After seeing he slept in later than he thought it was, he quickly showered and hurried over to the airport.
While he sat on the plane waiting to take off, he looked out the window hoping he was doing the right thing. After all, he loved living in Italy and loved his parents, but this was something he knew he had to do and was determined to make his millions. He was also set on finding the one, his future bride to share the rest of his life with.
Weeks gone by since Antonio arrived in Montana, got settled into his new home and got established at his new law firm. He was now ready to start dating and found himself at libraries, grocery stores, and parks, looking for the one he could take home to mom, but found nobody appealing to him.
In the meantime, he continued building his empire and had posted a job opening, looking for someone to help manage with the properties as well as buying and selling. He received a call asking about the position and asked him to come in for an interview this coming Saturday.
Saturday came and Antonio was in his office waiting for his interviewee to arrive, when he heard a knock at the door. He walked over to the door, opening it. "Come in," he says, looking at the young man holding a piece of paper in his hand.
"Hi, I'm here for the interview." he says, handing him his resume.
Antonio had him sit in the chair across from his desk, then sat down and looked at the resume. He looked up at the young man, unsure of what to think, or expect from him. "I see you just graduated and never have done anything like this before."
The young man sat straight and looked nervously at Antonio. "No, I've never done anything like this before. My parents cannot afford college, so, I was looking for a job that was willing to work with me and to train to me in. I'm smart, a fast learner, good with numbers and, I work well with people."
Antonio sat in his chair tracing his mouth while looking at the paper that he handed him, along with his high school grades he attached to his resume. "I see you're a 4.0 student."
"Yes, sir," he said, giving a serious look. He wanted to be honest with him and side smirked. "I must tell you, I was a bit of a class clown, but still did my work and graduated with honors."
Antonio talked with him for a while and explained what he was looking for, with the position he was hiring for. He also explained he was an attorney and wouldn't always be available. The more Antonio talked with him, the more he liked him.
He sat back in his chair studying him and thinking. "Ethan, I'm going to be honest with you... I'm looking for someone serious, one who is motivated and determined to make money. You may be too young for the job, but I like you. I see something in you and I'm willing to train you in. That is, if you're really interested."
Ethan smiled. "I'm very interested and I know I won't let you down... but I do have a question for you."
Antonio tilted his head to the side and formed his brows together. "What's that?"
"You look young yourself. May I ask, how old you are?"
"Almost twenty-three."
Ethan's eyes widened. He could tell he was young, but didn't think he was that young. "Damn, you're an attorney, you own your own business buying and selling properties and, your only twenty-three... crazy." he said, whistling. "You're my sisters age, she's a year younger than you."
For the rest of the day, Ethan stayed at the office with Antonio, allowing him to train him. Antonio showed him what to look for and when to say no if the deal looked bad. After the day of training, Antonio was shocked to see how fast he caught on. "Would you feel comfortable starting on Monday? I'll be in court all day, so, you'll be on your own."
"I'm very confident I can do this, you'll be amazed and proud you hired me, guaranteed." Ethan assured him as they were leaving the building. Antonio handed him a set of keys and shook his hand. Letting him know he was putting his trust in him and hoped he would work out.
A couple weeks had gone by since Ethan started working for Antonio. Antonio was able to leave the courthouse early and decided to check on Ethan, to see how things have been going. Antonio was calling him every day asking how things were going, but was never able to stop by and see how things were really doing.
Ethan showed Antonio what he accomplished and where they were. Ethan also informed him that he set up a huge property deal and how they were to meet next week. Hearing that was music to Antonio's ears and when Ethan showed him the numbers, Antonio felt like celebrating.
"You drink?" Antonio asked curiously.
"Me?" Ethan questioned with his hand on his chest, not sure what to say. He didn't know if he were to say yes, he would fire him, being he wasn't twenty-one years old.
Antonio raised an eyebrow and smirked. "I know you're not of age, but something tells me differently. You drink, don't you?"
"I do like bourbon," he admitted.
Antonio smiled. "Even better." They went back into his office, where Antonio grabbed a bottle of bourbon he had in a cabinet, pouring both he and Ethan a glass, handing him one. "Cheers," he says, clinking his glass to Ethan's.
"Here's to our livers, they're evil and deserve to be punished," Ethan chuckled, hoping to get a laugh out of him, to which he did.
For hours they sat in the office drinking and talking for hours, while going over business deals. It was getting late and both were unable to stand straight. "I should call a cab, so we can get home," Antonio slurred.
Ethan poured himself another shot and grinned. "I can always call my sister, she's probably not doing anything right now anyway and could pick us up. "Ethan grabbed his phone and called his sister for a ride, giving her directions on to where to pick them up.
"Be prepared, she didn't sound too happy, but says she'll bring us home." Ethan said, setting down his phone.
"I'm sure I can handle her. I'm an attorney, remember? I know how to talk to people."
Ethan laughed. "You don't know her very well. I always tell her she needs to get laid, that it would take the scowled look off her face."
"Ouch, that's harsh." Antonio said, shaking his head. "I'm sure she isn't that bad."
"Nah, she just likes pushing me around since she's older than me. But I guess I do always have it coming. I've been playing pranks on her since we were kids."
Ethan's phone rang. "Hello?" It was his sister letting him know she was outside waiting. They locked up and began stumbling to the doors. Antonio then tried helping Ethan walk outside when he kept tripping and falling.
"This reminds me of last weekend. My friends, they don't know how to control their alcohol and dropped me a few times trying to carry me to their car," Ethan laughed.
Antonio laughed, "I would have loved to see that."
As they were approaching the car, a woman with long brown hair was standing with her arms crossed, leaning against the car and giving Ethan an evil look as they walked closer. "Seriously Ethan?" she asked harshly. "You're nineteen years old and drunk off your ass."
The parking lot lights were shining on her just right, enough for Antonio to get a glimpse of her and stopped walking Ethan towards the car as he eyed her. Damn, he muttered under his breath. "That's your sister?" he asked.
"Yeah," he said looking at him with a grin. "Prepare yourself now, she's going to start yelling any second, guaranteed."
As they started walking, she started yelling at Ethan. She walked up to them and shoved Ethan. "You're an idiot."
Antonio raised his hand, trying to take the heat off Ethan. "It's my fault, I'm sorry." Antonio says, trying to calm her down. She stepped in front of Antonio and got into his face. The second she stood in front of him, his heart skipped a beat when he noticed her big green eyes staring back at him.
"Penso di essere innamorato," he said in awe, holding his hand to his heart.
"Excuse me?" she asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
I know it's not an Antonio and Sadie love story, but with all the requests, I figured I would try showing what his life was like with Harlow.😍😍😍😍 Hope you enjoyed the chapter!
