Facebook Week's A/N
Hey guys! I don't really know what this chapter will be, but I wanted a little act-break type of thing between Facebook week and the next few episodes so that the pacing doesn't feel off to me despite not actually taking a break for a week, but if you're reading after S2E25 has been published, you can probably skip this.
*
So I've decided that I'll make this into sort of a "The Making Of"/"Fun Facts"/My perspective on Facebook Week, mostly just things you don't know but might find interesting.
To start, here are the notebooks I am writing season 2 in:
(not pictured - Notebook #1 because I have no idea where it is even though I've checked everywhere it could be and I know I didn't leave it outside my room)
Anyway, Notebook #1 has the original drafts of the first nine season 2 episodes, #2 has S2E10 to S2E16, and #3 has everything for Facebook Week, including a draft of the episode promo. #4 is a notebook I just got a few weeks ago, and I'm going to start formatting tomorrow (at the time I'm writing this). I might give you guys a "tour" of my other notebooks at another time, but for now let's focus on #3.
So, by "formatting", this is what I mean:
At the beginning of every notebook, I write the entire schedule for season 2, usually color-coded for the episodes that have already been published (the unwritten/unpublished ones are in pencil so I can make changes to the schedule). There is about 3 pages of this schedule, but since the other 2 contain spoilers, I won't show you those yet.
After these pages is a page I don't have in my other notebooks, which says "This Journal belongs to Facebook Maria Jones. KEEP OUT!". The reason for this is, since this is the entire Facebook arc, I wanted to decorate this like Facebook's Diaries. I didn't have time to do too much, but idk maybe I will eventually.
The Announcement:
The first script in the book is the script for the announcement. Now, I don't have much to say about this since I did have an A/N, but fun fact: I came up with the idea for the promo before I knew Facebook didn't kill Myspace, which was last summer (probably sometime around July).
Also, the "and Tumblr" could be interpreted as foreshadowing to Tumblr's important role in this arc.
Lastly, this isn't very important, but I drew the most beautiful lowercase a I've ever seen by accident and I wanted to show you all:
It's so beautiful
Episode 18
Fun fact: Most of the titles for Facebook week are not their original titles. The original title for this episode was simply "Discourse".
Fun fact #2: Facebook's middle name was going to originally be Brittney, but I decided on Maria instead because it sounded better and it was a subtle reference to the musical Hamilton.
Fun fact #3: Tumblr's logo was originally also going to be extremely pixel-y (idk what you call it?) but since I didn't want to give my readers eyestrain, I decided I'd just use the version with a bunch of memes instead. (also I gave myself a headache while making it)
Fun fact #4: The most difficult part of this episode was trying to create a self-contained plot like most episodes, while also creating a twist that made sense.
Fun Fact #5: I sent Tumblr's logo to FandomsAmazing about a week before the event was announced, and they thought it was foreshadowing, and that it implied that A) Vine would be back (because of all the green) and B) Facebook cut off Myspace's head (because of the headless shrek) Of course, neither of these things were true, but I do wonder what the story would be like if I'd decided to write that version of the story.
Fun Fact #6: I feel the need to apologize for a line in this episode: When I said "you can't buy friends" I was obviously forgetting puppies, cats, hamsters, dogs, and any other animals you want to comment on there.
Fun Fact #7: A few weeks before this episode I randomly asked Ari to look up the difference between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree murder, and they did it no questions asked.
Episode 19
Fun fact: This was possibly one of the most difficult episodes to write because I don't really know that much about how the legal system works in general??? (thanks American public school system), so in the draft, there are spaces where I just wrote things like "Everyone stands as the judge enters and (whatever the heck this is wow I should really do more research)"
Fun fact #2: Originally I was going to put the readers into this part of the story by having you all play the jury, but that idea was scrapped because I knew you'd all probably want Facebook to be found not guilty whether or not she actually was, also I didn't know how exactly I'd do that.
Episode 20
Fun fact: Originally titled "Problematic"
Fun fact #2: Tbh the first scene of that episode might be one of my favorite scene's I've written comedy-wise.
Question: Did any of you actually momentarily ship Facespace? I won't judge you if you did since I was presenting it that way (just please don't anymore since we know the truth). I'm just wondering how persuasive Tumblr was.
Episode 21
Fun fact: This episode was originally just called "Tumblr"
Fun fact #2: The only reason I added a couch in the Google scene is because I always imagined Tumblr being upside down/rolling over at certain lines and I wanted an excuse to make that canon.
Fun fact #3: The idea that Facebook stabbed Myspace behind the bleachers at their old school actually was inspired by a comment by ZSB2000 from a while back on a "Draw the Squad" I'd done, but sadly I can't find the comment anymore so I can't cite it exactly.
Fun fact #4: yourwebsiteisproblematic.tumblr.com will become a blog in the near future. I haven't had time to create it yet, but I have the url saved, and I already know what type of stuff I will post. I will post updates when I start working on it.
Episode 22
Fun fact: This was the first episode I came up with in the Facebook arc.
Fun fact #2: The "Villain of my own story" paragraph randomly came into my head while I was doing something completely unrelated (tbh I think I was playing Mario Kart) and it surprised me and that was the main reason I created this arc.
Fun fact #3: I was speaking from experience while writing the "symptoms" of Facebook's panic attack. (I'm okay now don't worry)
Fun Fact #4: This is not the last time you'll see Arin, but Arin's a character I'm saving for season 3. (this was just a free sample lol).
Fun Fact #5: Arin is Nonbinary/Agender and uses they/them pronouns.
Fun Fact #6: I wrote S2E21 & S2E22 in one day.
Episode 23:
Fun fact: This episode took 3 weeks to write.
Fun fact #2: There are multiple scenes I chose to leave out, both in Facebook's diaries and in the conversations. I might post them in a deleted scenes chapter if I do another one this year.
Fun fact #3: I also cut out as many unnecessary words/sentences as I could. I kind of wish I could've left them in so that the pacing would sound better, but it's already over 8,000 words, so I think I left in enough.
Fun fact #4: At the time I'm writing this, this episode has 129 comments! Thank you all so much!
Fun fact #5: The reason I blame Ari for the length is I was close to finishing and messaged them "I wish I could include these 2 scenes but I'll take them out so I don't go over 8,000" and Ari immediately responded "ADD THEM!"
Fun Fact #6: There is more backstory I could've added, even before Myspace, but I didn't for the sake of length. One plot line was going to be some development on Facebook's relationship with her family, as well as her past "boyfriends", but I don't know if/when I'll be able to come back to that idea, so if anyone wants to write that fanfiction about Facey's early life hmu.
Fun Fact #7: The reason I made Facebook lie about her age is because if I didn't she would've gotten a job at Computer Corp at age 16, and I wanted her to have slightly more time.
Fun Fact #8: Fanfic's line "Straight people confuse me" is the most relatable line in the series in my opinion.
Fun Fact #9: Tracy might return in season 3 but idk this isn't confirmed it's just an idea.
Some of my favorite comments:
"myspace waddle out of our facey's lives" -fanfictions_are_fun
"j**i se u tri p***e materne ti k***c prekleti, upam da ti ohrovt zgnije in da te kočevski medved požre" -fanfictions_are_fun (translation according to user: I hope your cabbage rots and you get eaten by a bear)
"YOU DID NOTHING FACEY I LOVE YOU" -FandomsAmazing
"I less screamingly agree" -fanfictions_are_fun
"I more screamingly agree" -FandomsUnited_Always
"*shoots a feminist laser beam at him*" -fanfictions_are_fun
"YOU DO NOT BASICALLY OWN HER YOU UGLY FLOATY THING!" -fanfictions_are_fun
Also, question: For some reason there's like no comments on the line where it's revealed Myspace is already dead, so I want to know what you were thinking? Were you surprised? Did you already guess she didn't kill him, if so then what gave it away?
Anyways, I probably have so much more to talk about that I'm not thinking of right now, so check the blog later because I'll post additional info there. Now I'm going to start working on the super late Valentine's Day episode that doesn't really make sense anymore but whatever I had a cute idea so I'm still going to write it.
Stay golden, web-fans!
