Episode 6: Single Dipper | Part 3

Wendy's eyes were heavy. Whenever she tried opening them, they slowly closed again. They began fluttering open when specs of color began moving in front of her. Voices filled her ears and across the room.

"Is she awake yet?" a quiet voice asked.

"Shhh!" another hushed.

"Can you two be quiet for one second?" a third exclaimed.

When Wendy finally opened her eyes, she found herself in a dark, void-like place. Everything surrounding her was nothing but pitch-darkness. Three figures were standing in front of her. One green, one orange, and one purple. All of the figures were so bright, it took Wendy more than a few seconds to adjust in order to actually see the figures and not just blurs.

The figures were all. . . Wendy. But not. All of them looked exactly like her but dressed differently and with different hairstyles.

Green Wendy was dressed oddly like Pacifica in a green flannel worn underneath a green sweater with a skirt, heels and her hair pulled up in a high pony.

Orange Wendy was dressed in an orange flannel that had been buttoned lazily and was half-tucked into a pair of baggy jeans with her hair messy and sticking in different directions.

Purple Wendy was wearing a purple flannel that was so big it reached past her knees and her hair was long and falling over her eyes.

Wendy cowered under their blindingly bright auras. "Who- who are you? Where am I?"

"We're the individual parts of your personality," Green Wendy spoke first. "I'm Envy."

"I'm Ego!" Orange Wendy said proudly.

"And I'm Insecurity. . ." Purple Wendy said in a small voice.

"Or at least we're individuals now," Envy said. "You have no idea what it's like to have to be fused with all of those idiots all the time."
She clenched her teeth and shot the other emotions a look of annoyance.

"Wait," Wendy said, confused. "This is everyone? This is all that there is to my personality? I mean, no offense."

"None taken!" Ego responded.

"Oh, there's tons more of us alright," Envy explained. "But they've been taken care of."

"What do you mean?" Wendy asked.

"We're kinda in the middle of a rebellion," Ego said. "We're the emotions that have been wanting to take control for the past few months, and now's our chance to finally run this place!"

"Yeah. . . all thanks to you," Insecurity added.

Wendy let out a shocked laugh. "You can't be serious. . . you're fighting over who should be my dominant personality?"

"Yeah," all three responded.

"Okay well it's been a pleasure getting to meet all of you but I'd really like to get back to. . . wherever I was before. . . wait, am I possessed?"

"In a way, yes," Envy said. "But you're still where you were before. You're in two places at once. Your mind and in reality."

She snapped her fingers and the void was suddenly the same room Wendy had been standing in minutes before. Only this time Envy, Ego, and Insecurity were standing around her.

Envy smiled. "And now we're in control."

"Wendy!" Tambry exclaimed happily. "You're okay!"

"Yeah. . . at least I think I am," Wendy replied cautiously. She glanced at the three copies of herself, who all waved in response.

"What're you looking at?" Tambry asked, suddenly looking more concerned than before.

"Oh, nothing," Envy said. Wendy suddenly felt her mouth moving, seemingly on its own. She was repeating what Envy had just said.

"Oh, nothing." Wendy slapped a hand over her mouth, but her hand fell back to her side on its own. She looked at Envy, who flashed her a mischievous grin.

Tambry had taken a few steps back and was staring at Wendy with a look of horror.

"You're eyes. . . they're green," she said in a shaky voice.

"What?!" Wendy looked around the room for a reflective surface and found a handheld mirror laying on a coffee table. She lifted it to look at her face to see Envy's face staring back at her.

"Boo," Envy's face said, throwing her head back and cackling when Wendy let out a scream.

"Hahah! I wanna try!" Ego said. Wendy's eyes changed to orange as she lifted Wendy's hand and threw the mirror on the floor, sending shards flying in multiple directions.

"What's wrong with you?!" Tambry shouted.

Wendy stumbled backward and fell on the floor. Her head was spinning and the voices of the other Wendys bounced around in her head.

"I don't know!"

The three emotions gathered around her. Wendy glared up at them once her head finally cleared.

"How can I make all of this stop?" she pleaded. "I just want to go back to being normal."

"You'll be back to normal as soon as I get my job done, since I'm the strongest of all of us," Envy said.

"And what does that mean?" Wendy demanded.

"Oh. . . she doesn't know. . ." Insecurity whispered.

"Of course she doesn't know!" Ego snapped.

"What?" Wendy repeated.

Envy crossed her arms. "We're going to split up Dipper and Pacifica once and for all. We all know that you're not going to be satisfied until she's as far away from Dipper as possible."

"No! That's not what I want!" Wendy exclaimed.

"Are you really sure about that?" Envy said. Her eyes narrowed. "Lying to yourself isn't going to make this any easier."

"I can't let you do this. I'm not going to let you hurt Dipper."

"We won't hurt him," Insecurity said.

"Yeah, we'll hurt his little girlfriend- or soon to be ex-girlfriend," Ego said excitedly.

"Come on, girls. Let's go find Pacifica," Envy said.

Wendy stood up against her will and felt her legs beginning to move on their own. Tambry's face contorted into horror to see her walking across the room similarly to a zombie. Wendy began to call out but her mouth wouldn't open.

"And remember, the sooner we get this over with, the sooner Wendy is happy again."
Envy snapped her fingers and the world went dark. Wendy was back in the Void. But this time, she was the only one there.

"Hey!" she exclaimed angrily. "What're you doing?"

"It's only an act of precaution," Envy's voice responded. "We can't have you interfering with our plans."

"You're gonna regret this!" Wendy screamed.

"In the meantime, you can speak with those other pathetic little emotions of yours," Envy continued as if she hadn't heard Wendy's threat.

"But I don't see anyone." Wendy looked around and this time saw three different figures.

Red, yellow, and blue. All three were much less vibrant than Envy, Ego, and Insecurity. They were almost gray. They almost looked like they were sick.

"It's you," Blue Wendy whispered. The other two slowly looked up and marveled at her. Wendy's eyes softened when a wave of sympathy washed over her.

"Who are you?" she asked.

"Happiness," Yellow Wendy replied in a croaky voice.

"Anger," Red Wendy said.

"Sadness," Blue Wendy whispered.

Happiness looked at the floor in what looked like shame. "We're your weakest emotions. . ."

. . .

"And this concludes the dance battle portion of the party-off," Mabel announced.

Soos and Robbie stood across from each other, both bent over and panting from exhaustion.

"Ready. . . to. . . give up?" Robbie said in between gulps of air.

"Never!" Soos exclaimed.

Mabel grabbed another track and inserted it into the stereo. "The competition will continue after a short break. Next up is the karaoke round!"

Robbie and Soos shot each other menacing looks before marching away from the DJ booth to collapse in chairs.

Dipper gave Soos a pat on the shoulder.
"You're doing great so far," he said with a smile. "You've got this in the bag!"

"Thanks Dipper!" Soos wiped the sweat from his forehead and took a long swig from a bottle of water.

"Oh yeah, I've been wanting to ask if you've seen Wendy anywhere. She ran off while I was talking to Pacifica."

Soos shook his head. "No, I haven't. Sorry dude."

"She seemed upset. . . I better go find her and make sure everything's okay. Good luck with the rest of the competition!" Dipper gave him a thumbs up before rejoining Pacifica by the dance floor.

"Did he say anything about Wendy?" Pacifica asked.

"No. He hasn't seen anything either." Dipper ran his fingers through his hair while breathing slowly in an attempt to relieve his stress.

"It's going to be okay. Whatever it is, she'll be okay. Wendy's a tough kid."

Dipper absentmindedly played with the cuffs of his plaid shirt while he spoke.

"I know, but I can't help but worry about her. She always seems to be kinda troubled with something."

"Like what?" she asked.

He shrugged. "I don't know. I've never really gotten around to asking."

Pacifica smiled and took Dipper's hand. "It's going to be fine. We could try splitting up and looking for her. Does that sound good?"

Dipper nodded. "Sure." He beamed and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before letting go of her hand.

"Meet me back here in about fifteen minutes, okay?"

"Okay," Pacifica agreed. She turned and disappeared into the heavy crowd and towards the hallway where Wendy had first disappeared.

. . .

"What happened to all of you?" Wendy asked quietly.

Happiness shrugged and looked away. "Things happen and we end up unused. . ."

"Then we turn gray and begin to fade," Anger held up her hand, which was beginning to turn transparent.

"Things like what?"

"You know what," Sadness said tearfully, biting back a sob as a few tears slid down her cheeks.

Wendy swallowed the lump that had grown in her throat and wrapped her arms around herself. "Mom. . ." she mumbled.

The three emotions flinched at the mention of it but still managed to nod in unison.

"I guess you could say the phrase 'bottling up your emotions' is taken quite literally around here," said Anger with a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. But no one smiled in return.

"Is there any way I can help you guys?" Wendy tried to reach out to touch Sadness, but her fingers slid right through her fading form.

"You have to let Envy do her job," Happiness said. "If you try to stop her now, it will only make things worse."

"When she's done, will you be okay?"

The three exchanged some looks before turning to look back at Wendy.

"We can only hope."

. . .

"Dipper!" Tambry called out, waving frantically once she spotted Dipper amongst the sea of dancing kids and teenagers.

Dipper finally broke free of the crowd, nearly falling on his face in the process. He approached Tambry, looking slightly relieved.

"Hey, have you seen Wendy anywhere?"

"That's what I was coming to ask you. Something's wrong with her!"

Dipper frowned. "What're you-"

"-it's like. . . like she's gone insane or she's possessed or something. A while ago we found this old room with this old junk in it and Wendy picked up this weird glass thingie and it exploded and now she's crazy. . . I think."

Tambry paused and took in a deep breath . "Sorry, I'm really bad at explaining things."

"It's okay," Dipper said. "Just come with me. I think I know what to do."

. . .

Pacifica walked toward the hallway that led to the bathroom. It only told her a few minutes of peering over the crowd of teenagers to spot Wendy's red pigtails.

"Hey, Wendy!" she called out.

Wendy immediately turned at the sound of her voice, her eyes scanning the crowd like a robot before finally settling on Pacifica. She grinned and proceeded towards her.

Pacifica laughed. "Well, that was easier than I imagined. Dipper and I were just looking for you. We wanted to make sure you were feeling okay."

Wendy nodded stiffly. "I'm fine. You?" she asked before taking a sip from the plastic cup that she held in her hand.

"Haha. I'm good too," Pacifica responded in a playful voice. She let out an awkward laugh when Wendy continued to stare at her with a hollow expression.

"Aaaaand you're sure you're feeling okay?"

"You've been with Dipper all night, right?"

"Yeah. . . why do you ask?"

"No reason," said Envy. "Just thought you oughta remember to keep your hopes low. It's not gonna last."

"Sorry, I don't think I heard your right-"

"-nope. I'm pretty sure you heard me perfectly." Envy stared down into the cup that she held and watched the liquid swirling around at the bottom.

"None of Dipstick's little girlfriends stick around for long. Say, how long have you two been together?"

Pacifica frowned. "What're you talking about? Dipper never said anything to me about his exes. . . "

"There's plenty! There's been Leslie, Mary Ann, Candy. I could go on and on and on-"

"-Candy's one of my best friends! I don't know why she's never told me." Pacifica's eyes fell to the floor.

"Hurts, doesn't it?" Envy said softly. "All the secrets, the lies that people tell in order to kee everyone happy. But like I said, nothing really lasts. First the cups half full, then it's half empty-" Envy tilted the cup so that the remaining punch splashed onto Pacifica's dress.

"-then it's all gone."

Pacifica recoiled. Her face was now a mess of running mascara as she ran to the snack table and frantically grabbed fistfuls of napkins and rubbed them against the skirt of her ruined dress.

"Whoops, my bad," Envy said sarcastically, mainly to Wendy. She let the empty cup drop on the floor before disappearing to the other side of the room.

A/N: BOY was this an exciting chapter to write!! Hope you enjoyed it!

And I'd like to give a shoutout to ThiaHolimon for giving me the idea of Wendy having a split personality. I've had so much fun with this concept and I've been planning on making some character designs for all of Wendy's emotions that have been featured in this chapter :)

If anyone has any ideas for future chapters or shorts, feel free to leave them in the comments!

Catch'ya later! :D
