notes: I felt bad for torturing sam. so... now this exists. it's not perfect. but. I'll let this poor man drink his juice and watch his documentaries

Sometimes, Sam wants to sip grape juice and watch Animal Planet. Within those times where his brain won't turn off, rarely does he get to fill it with Garbage™️. It's apocalypse after apocalypse and Sam would not be so selfish to sacrifice the world for some relaxation time, even when it's been ten hours of figuring out how to do exactly what every decent magical authority says not to.

But occasionally, when the world seems to show him the rare sympathetic smile or Dean literally shoves him out of the library, he sits down to watch documentaries, however boring they are. It can be hard to remember why to fight, but those Top 40 Cutest Animals marathons... man, that's living, as far as Sam Winchester is concerned.

Of course, it's a double edged sword. He remembers that the world needs to be saved, if not for humanity but so that the octopi can rise up and take over (they'll do a better job, surely), and he's the one tasked with doing it. But some part of his mind that's maybe a little more self-centered tells him to take a sip of juice, a bite of Lucky Charms, and a deep breath. So he does.

He relaxes into the soft old hoodie and doesn't think about how it smells like smoke. He enjoys the grape juice, and doesn't think about wine. He picks out the perfect ratio of cereal to sugary bits, and doesn't think about the toy at the bottom of the box.

He turns off his brain and doesn't think about the past, and for a moment, can be content.

notes: he likes grape juice, lucky charms, and Mac'n'cheese. when it's been 2 weeks of being on the edge of a mental breakdown, the five food groups of sam winchester consist of grape juice, alcohol, mac'n'cheese, green juice, and lucky charms. no i will not be taking criticism. one of these days. I'll make a master post of dumb headcanons.
