Jaemin leaned against the railing that separated the promenade from the river running through the city. The wind that swept past the water pulled his blonde fringe off his face, leaving a stunning view of a beautiful boy.
Well, beautiful on the outside at least. Like previously mentioned, Jaemin believed his 'inside' was empty, devoid of what made humanity human. He was 'soulless'.
Small children ran around the wooden deck that stretched all the way along the green flowing water, followed by parents who were stressed from their wild antics.
The young adult sighed boredly, pulling out of the metal bar and hanging back to catch the breeze. He barely squinted at the light of the sky, its pure and outstanding light making his coco irises shine.
What is a man to do for some entertainment around here? He wondered, running back through his old memories and trying to pinpoint what he would've done when finding himself with a lack of purpose. The image of a certain person kept popping up, reminding him of the past and what he had ruined.
Though Jaemin never saw his actions that way. He couldn't find it in his heart to regret the mess and turmoil he had created, and left behind. It exhilarated him.
Though this trip down memory lane had sparked an idea. The blonde's desire to relive the day he became so hated started to grow, for he had never felt so alive before or after it. And thus, a new activity to play had presented itself to him.
Let's just kill Jupiter's leader again, shall we? His eyes glimmered, shifting from the sky back to the water as an involuntary giggle escaped his lips. Why hadn't he thought of it sooner? Offing the little shit who had cleaned up his mess?
The smile that spread across his cheeks was extremely noticeable, and various civilians who passed him furrowed their brows in concern for his mental health.
A small child ran away from their siblings in a fit of giggles, eyes closed from glee and direction uncertain until he crash landed against Jaemin's leg. The male slowly glanced down at the infant with a disgusted expression, pulling his leg away and cringing when the damn thing started to cry.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," his mother apologised quickly, crouching down to pick her toddler up and clutching him to her chest tightly. "He's a free spirit....." she began, noticing his awkward expression and tilting her head. "Um....I'm sorry."
Jaemin waved her off, totally uninterested in the ordinary people who inhabited his home area. Only the organised crime groups held his attention. The lady turned away with a heavy heart, getting a bad feeling from the strange guy and walking in the opposite direction with her children.
Jaemin sighed, checking his watch with a pout and re-gripping the railings. Now his new mission was to figure out who the leader was. Lucas had been of little help when he arrived, so he would need to find a weaker member to spill the information.
As he mapped out a plan in his mind, another presence located itself beside him, the other's hands sliding onto the rusted metal bar as well.
"You're new around here," a cheeky voice uttered lightly, causing the blonde to snap his attention to him. The man, around his age no doubt, had brown frizzy hair, round dreamy eyes, tanned skin, and ordinary clothes on. His face was nice, Jaemin would admit, but not one he recognised.
"And you are?"
The older chuckled, leaning down on the bar and holding his cheek in his hand, "Lee Donghyuck. You're definitely new around here if you don't know me."
Jaemin scoffed at his cockiness, folding his arms and turning to press his back against the railing instead. "And why would I have any idea who you are?"
"That's for me to know, and you to find out," Donghyuck winked, looking out over the river and inhaling a deep breath. "May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?"
You can fuck off if you'd like as well, the taller wanted to retort, though chose to pick his battles wisely. If this guy was as well-known as he let on, perhaps he could come in useful in future. "Na Jaemin. I'm not new either....just coming home after a while."
Donghyuck arched his brow, having heard that name -or something similar- before. "Nice to meet you, Jaemin. I like to familiarise myself with everyone around here. Makes me feel more," he paused, clicking his tongue as he searched for the word, "At home? Welcome? Something like that...."
"Well, I can't say I remember you from when I was here," the taller hummed, leaning back further again to study the other's features more closely. Well, unless this guy has had one hell of a transformation or makeover, I've definitely never seen him before.
"I'm new as well," the brunette responded calmly. "I've only been around for two years."
Two years? Jaemin thought, well, I've been gone for three....does that mean he's unaware of who I am....or....?
"You seem confused," Donghyuck commented, turning around to lean against the railing with his back as well. His arms spread out across it, making him seem....sophisticated? "I can tell you have some questions."
"And I'm withholding them," Jaemin narrowed his eyes. "For all I know, you could be the worst person in the city to talk to."
"Or the best," he winked, his hair flying back with the wind and making him seem even more breathtaking. "Ask me."
It couldn't hurt to find out whether he has connections to Jupiter or not..... "Okay. Have you ever heard of this place's mafia?"
It was forward, dodgy and quite unexpected, Donghyuck felt. Though he was more than pleased to be met with a straight talker, and someone with potential. "I might. Depends what you're getting at."
"See?" The blonde rolled his eyes, "Asking questions to strangers is pointless. I'll just find someone I know-"
"I never said I wouldn't tell the truth," the older hissed, slapping Jaemin's shoulder. "Though let's play a childish game we're both familiar with. Twenty one questions."
"Grow up."
"I'm twenty three. I'm finished growing," the older deadpanned, wearing a serious expression that Jaemin couldn't shake.
"Fine. Ask."
"Why do you want to know about Jupiter?"
"Ahah!" The younger clapped victoriously, grinning snidely and pushing his index finger against the brunette's forehead condescendingly. "Nobody just knows the name 'Jupiter', and if they did, they wouldn't say it with such ease. I'm talking to a new member, aren't I?"
"Yes. Now, my turn."
"Wait-"
"That was a question," Donghyuck reminded him, "I answered 'yes'. Now, how long have you been away from Seoul?"
Jaemin gritted his teeth, trying to loosen up now that he knew this wasn't just some random asshole. He was a blessing in disguise. "A while."
"Specifics, please."
"Ugh, about three years, give or take." If he's a newbie, he wouldn't know my real name, would he? My criminal name is how people remember me.....Suddenly, the younger wondered just how much this guy knew. It was all too clear he had no idea he was talking to Nana, the man walking with a gorgeous price on his head.
"Three years?" The brunette furrowed his brows, "That's awfully.....close."
Close to what? The younger wanted to ask, though he was careful not to spill too much before the game ended. Maybe Donghyuck was aware of 'the betrayal' which was to be expected, and just wasn't deeply invested in the story. After all, the older members were the only few that would remember it with their own eyes.
"Okay, my turn," Jaemin hummed, tapping out a jumpy rhythm on the metal. "What's the name of the current leader?"
Donghyuck pursed his lips, almost letting his own name slip. Though he caught himself in time, curling his lips in a knowing smile. "Haechan."
"Is that a real name? Or his criminal name-"
"My turn," the older laughed with mischief. "Are you a past member? Or someone who wants to join?"
The blonde groaned, kicking a stone by his feet into the water through a gap in the railing. "Past member."
Donghyuck started to feel a little suspicious, trying to connect a few dots in his mind before leading himself to a conclusion. Though Jaemin stepped away, stretching his arms behind his head and eliciting a small yawn.
"I'm done playing games," he stated, giving Donghyuck one last look. The shorter was flying a little too close to the sun for comfort, reaching towards the truth with everything he had. Jaemin, essentially, was chopping his hand off before he could. "See you around, Hyuck."
"Already giving me a nickname?" The young leader bit his lip excitedly, hoping that this person wasn't who he might've been, and wanting to extend an invitation back into the mafia in the future. Study would need to be done first, though.
"Why not?" The blonde responded from over his shoulder, walking away slowly and giving the term 'relaxed' much justice. "Cuties get nicknames."
"Psh," the shorter smirked under his breath, watching his retreating figure and diving his hands into his pockets. "What a player....."
I'll see what I can do with you, Na Jaemin. You're officially on my radar.
