When I get home and lay down on my bed, I immediately take my phone out and start typing a message to Sea.
daylightful | 9:06 pm
hey, are you up?
seaofhearts | 9:49 pm
yes.
I find her message a bit weird, because she never leaves me hanging for that long and her message is unusually short.
daylightful | 9:52 pm
guess what happened?!
seaofhearts | 10:01 pm
what?
I ignore her attitude, and start writing my next text.
daylightful | 10:04 pm
i went on a date with a girl!
seaofhearts | 10:23 pm
good for you
daylightful | 10:25 pm
what's wrong?
seaofhearts | 10:34 pm

daylightful | 10:36 pm
it doesn't seem like it :(
seaofhearts | 10:41 pm
i have to go. talk to you later.
daylightful | 10:43 pm
goodnight!
When I send her that message, I know that she won't see it until morning. I go through my head, and try to think of what it could be that I did. Except, I come up with nothing.
In my mind, there's nothing logical that I could have done to have made her angry. All I did was go on a date with Zara.
"What if it's Zara? She might not want me to talk about the date to 'other people,' and to her tumblr identity she is considered to be 'other people.'"
Though Zara has always been the kind to flaunt her flings, it could be different this time since I seem to be more than that to her. Doubt begins to grow inside of me but I choose to ignore it.
I finally relax, and try to fall asleep. That night, I dream about Zara.
*A/N: The dream is in italics*
"You're beautiful," Zara tells me.
I'm sitting uneasy as I look around to find that I'm back at the diner.
"Thanks," I say.
She begins to say something more, but I turn to look at the sparkling girl behind her who suddenly appears. She's ethereal, in a red dress that accentuates her figure, and a dazzling smile on her face.
She walks toward me and winks, asking, "wouldn't you rather be with me?"
I slowly nod my head, like I'm in a trance. I'm caught up by her bright blue eyes that seem to be calling me. There's something heavenly about her, but I can't decide what it is about her that's giving off that vibe.
Zara yells out my name in the distance but by then, the girl and I are already long gone from the diner. We're then transferred to another world, and it's a wonderland full of magic and joy.
I ask her where we are, but she simply giggles in response.
We continue walking and at one point, I look down to realize that we've been holding hands the entire time. I hadn't notice because her hands just seem to fit perfectly in mine.
As if they belong together.
We finally stop in front of a huge house that's as colorful as the rainbow. The scene is like one from Alice in Wonderland.
"You chose me over Zara," the girl exclaims.
"I did," I say, fawning over her beauty.
She looks into my eyes for a moment, before finally starting to lean in. I get closer and magically, we begin to ki—
"Idalia! Wake up! You will not be late to school again!" I hear my mom yell.
I instantly sit up, and shake my head. The girl in my dream was familiar, but I can't exactly decide who it was.
"Idalia!" My mom screams again.
"I'm getting ready!" I snap at her.
I begin to pull on random clothes from my closet, and I apply some light makeup on. After I finish getting ready, I head to the kitchen where I make myself a quick breakfast. Of course, one of my brothers rushes over to my side and grabs one of the last cinnamon buns.
"Hey!" I yell at him, but he's already run out.
"Sorry, Idalia!" Lucas distantly responds.
I miserably begin to eat again, but once again, I'm interrupted.
My dad walks in to the kitchen and says, "morning."
"Hi," I simply say back.
"What's wrong?" He asks.
I shrug, and he instantly heads to my side.
He lays a hand on my forehead and comments, "you're not physically sick. Is something else going on in that head of yours?"
You have no idea.
I tell him no, but he doesn't seem to believe me. He doesn't have time to say anything else though, because he leaves a few minutes later, on his way to work.
I look at the clock, realizing that I'm going to be late if I don't leave right now. I leave my half finished breakfast on the table and hope that my mom won't yell at me later for that. When I arrive at school, Elliot comes to my side and starts yelling a bunch of questions at me.
"Shut up," I finally tell him.
"How was it?"
"It didn't happen," I whisper to him.
"What?!"
That gets the attention of the people walking by us, so I purposefully stomp on Elliot's foot to get him to be quiet.
"Ouch!"
"Shut up, Elliot," I practically hiss at him.
He finally gets the hint and quietly asks, "so, what happened?"
I explain to him, while we're walking to our class, how we had instead gone to a diner. I leave out the details about Marina and instead tell him how Zara had eagerly asked me on a second date.
"That's great!" He says, "I'm happy for you. You need this. After you dated Kyle at the start of high school, I thought that there was no hope left for you."
I almost laugh at the reminder of that memory. Kyle was an awkward guy, with strange moods and miserable actions that made me resent him. We broke up after two months, and I commonly refer to that time as the worst two months of my life.
"Well, there wasn't any hope left for that straight version of me. Good thing I'm a lesbian," I tell him.
He laughs, and we walk into the classroom. We sit down at our table and I reach down to lay my backpack on the floor. I grab some materials and sit back up.
I start talking to Elliot again but out of the corner of my eye, I see someone familiar.
It reminds me of my dream, where that girl had caught my eye. She was magical, delicate, and -
And standing right in front of me.
I blink five times to make sure I'm not seeing things, but this is reality.
Right in front of me, is Marina.
