Chapter 12

I tried to get up and run away from the bars but I fell. I forgot that I didn't have my leg. I guess got used to the weight of the thing.

I had stood up but fell back and my body slammed on the cold floor. Chills running through my body like blood. I quickly tried to crawl back and I succeeded. My breathing is quick and heavy. Scared turned into anger. I am not scared of him.

"Hello Lilly, or... Lyra!" My anger instantly turned back to fear. "I wasn't born yesterday, sweetheart." He smiles and laughs. He clasped his hands together and said: "So, how do you like your new home? I mean, it fits your personality like a glove! Scary, cold, horrible, and lonely." He sighs and looks around with his hands at his chest. "No wonder your husband died! He probably killed himself." He wasn't wrong. He basically did kill himself, didn't he?

"I have an offer to make you." I look up to him. What offer? "You can sit here and rot, or you can become my wife. Help me run a kingdom and stop a war." Why would I ever want to marry him? He is a horrible, no good, slinky, trickster that wants nothing but a pretty face! I was back to anger again.

"I'll let you think." With that, he left.

As the day went on I started to hear voices in my head. They yelled in my ear and wrapped my head in pain. I was starting to get lightheaded, so I tried to go to sleep. The voices screamed and yelled. I just laid on the floor, staring at the wall with my hands over my ears until I finally fell asleep.

As the cold and bitter taste of the air faded, the voices quieted down and soon stopped. Once they stopped, my vision was gained back.

I was still in the cell and the voices were gone. I looked around and I realized that I had two legs; two real legs. I touched it and a shiver was sent up my spine.

I looked up and I saw the cell door was open. The girl on the other side looked dead. Her eyes were stuck open and for the whole minute I stared at her, they didn't close.

I got up and started to the open door. I was confused. Why in all hell would he keep the cell door open? I mean, it's fucking great for me, stupid on him.

I ventured out and looked at both paths and once I saw them, I knew I was fucked. Both ways were endless and you could look out for what seems like miles. Darkness blocked me from further sight. I decided to go left.

As I went down the hallway, I looked and watched all the people in the never-ending mass of cells. They also watched me and turned their head at any hint of movement.

After a couple minutes of walking, I stopped. I had made no progress, not even a dent in getting to the end. I sighed and closed my eyes for several seconds. I reopened them and I was face to face with a rustic metal door. I looked around and the same people were there, still watching me.

I put my hand on the freezing knob, flinching at the coldness, and turned it. The door opened and a warm, nice breeze rushed to kiss my face and dance in the corridor. I faced the bright blue sky and the stone walkway that was lined with brush. There were beautiful cherry trees and on a walkway, there was a gate leading to a village.

I stepped out, not letting the door close, and turned back. I wondered why such a horrible place was met with everlasting freedom and a beautiful space. I wondered if the people in there knew. When I looked back, they weren't there. The cells were gone and the cold and sour air had left. There was a big and bright room with two staircases on each side that swirled to the second floor and there were many doors going to God knows where. In the middle, there was a red, and long carpet that was lined with gold going to a two-stepped staircase that led to a platform with two thrones on it. It was beautiful, but I didn't want to go back. I never do.

I closed the door and walked through the courtyard. It had multiple fountains and flowers galore!... Those same blue flowers. It was odd. They were the only flowers I have ever seen. I haven't seen a different one the whole time I was here. It's like they are haunting me. I walked for a couple minutes until I reached the gate.

I walked out and I was faced with a town. I looked back at the building and there stood a  giant, stone, one-story building, there was a giant and luxurious castle. I kept walking into the town and I found a flowing river that went throughout the town. It circled the castle, like the town and there was a bridge to get over it.

The river wasn't blue or pretty. It was green, a dark green. The ground was beautiful stone and the houses never copied each other and there was a fountain in the center of the town. I ignored the river and walked through the town.

I saw people. They didn't move and didn't blink. They just stood there, watching me. They had those same angel wings shoved in their back. They all wore white. Girls with dresses, boys with tuxes. They looked sad.

Amongst the crowd of lifeless people, someone was living. She looked at me, saw me breathing, saw me blinking, and ran towards me. She looked angry. She looked just like the others. She grabbed my arm and dragged me along. We ran alongside the river.

"What the hell?" I screamed. Soon she let go and I ran beside her. Her eyes were glowing and she looked traumatized rather than the anger she had been sporting earlier. "They are after you." She said. She seemed normal. She had answered my question, but another arose. "Who?" I was starting to run out of breath. "The Melted, now stop asking questions!" She yelled.

I was even more confused. I looked at the river and Something was coming out of it. People. People made of the same goo as the river. They had no defined gender. The looked to be melting. Their face was deformed and they were dripping from every part of the body. They were slow but rose from the river fast.

I looked forward and didn't dare look back again. I ran faster despite my body yelling at me to stop. Soon the same weird amalgamations appeared in front of us as well. We stopped in our tracks and she turned to face me.

Her back facing the river, three melting people rose from it and started slowly towards her. Ah grabbed my shoulders and looked at me with panicked eyes. "Remember my words: The Moon has made a bright path, but it will never survive his wrath. Do the unexpected and accept it." She pauses and blinked. The people came closer and closer. I squirmed to get out of her grip. "You will die unless you are exact in these steps: first, when he as-" Suddenly, she was grabbed and pulled backward with the people covering her mouth. She was trying to tell me something, but what.

I tried to run, but I was surrounded. I was grabbed and pulled in every direction. I closed my eyes and screamed. The voices rushed back.

I suddenly felt something jolting me up. I was breathing heavily and I was in a cold sweat. I was sat on the cold floor, breathing the cold and sour air. It was a dream.
