Childhood Blues «Gakushuu Asano»

I don't really know the song but I read it carefully... also, this is requested by Amemiya_Lislette. Dedicated to you, thanks for requesting!

Your third day of school in Kunugigaoka Junior High School wasn't bad. It was the worst. For you, that is.

No one really bullied you, you've made so many friends actually. But the truth was bothering. You didn't make it in class 3A. It's your dream classroom the moment you entered this school.

You're actually grade conscious. You focused too much on your grades; that was also the reason why you got separated with your childhood best friend. His name and appearance wasn't really clicking in your head now.

You pursed your lips, feeling a little depressed until now. Your head was hung low as you went back to your classroom which was class 3B.

As you made your way on the hallway though, a certain someone stood by an empty classroom. It's Gakushuu Asano, and he was talking to a girl from class 3D. You were so sure that this was a confession so you quickly and subtly crept out of the scene.

However, the sense of interest in you increased so in the end, you went and listened to the confession.

"But I like you!" You heard the girl exclaim the same time the warning bell rang.

"I'm so sorry. I can't return your feelings."

"So it's unrequited, huh?" She mumbled, her voice cracking in the end. It's evident. She's hurt. "Okay. I'm sorry for taking a lot of your time." A long moment of silence dawned over the two. The desire to know what happened boiled inside of you, but you were too scared to look.

Just imagine the shock on your face when Gakushuu went out of the room and saw you. He looked so pissed by your presence (and maybe a little shocked). The only thing that popped in your mind was: Curiosity killed the cat. You were so unfortunate and you made the wrong choice of listening to something humiliating.

You opened your mouth to speak but no words came out. He 'tsked' and continued walking down the hall. Then the girl came out of the room and luckily, she didn't see you.

Exhausted from playing on the playground, a sigh that had so many emotions escaped your lips as the big, round, orange thing in the sky slowly vanished. "They say that if you watch the sun set for fifty one days in a row, your love will be requited."

"Are you finally at the end of your tethers?" A boy your age who was your companion until a month ago asked like you were out of your mind.

"No, it's..."

"(y/n)-chan! *****-kun!"

Your eyes shot open at the weird dream. The dream was all about your childhood. Your childhood that consisted of a boy that didn't really register in your mind. All you could remember was that you liked him a lot and the feelings were not mutual.

That day, you were planning to confess to the boy. That day was also the last time you saw him. From then on, you rarely spoke with him, and slowly, you drifted away from each other like repelling magnets.

It's a sad memory, and that day was also the forty-eighth day of you watching the sunset. After you didn't see him, you stopped believing that he will return your feelings and decided to move on.

Success. You achieved success at forgetting him, but that stupid dream had to remind the feelings that were buried deep in your heart.

Shaking your head, the tick-tocking of the clock caught your attention. 5:47 PM. You didn't notice that you fell asleep after getting home. The basketball-like thing in the sky called sun went down in slow motion. For the last time, you decided that this will be the last time you'll keep an eye on the sun.

The next day, as you went to school, Gakushuu's face was the one greeting everybody. He stood by the gate in his usual uniform, an undecipherable expression plastered on his face like a sticker which signalled the people in the academy to stay out of his way because he was pissed.

Not wanting to tick him off more, you sidled but he stuck out a hand to his right. This made everyone look at his direction and gossip.

"Let us talk." He snarled and got a firm hold of your wrist. Startled, you weren't able to do anything but let him drag you... towards the back of the school?

Surely, no one was around because the bell will ring any minute now. What does he want with me?

"Don't tell anyone about what you saw and heard yesterday." His voice wasn't really telling you to do so, but his eyes did. It's contrary, at the same time confusing, but you still nodded. Why will I tell anyone about that? I'm not a gossip girl. "Okay." That's all? After hauling me to a place like this, he's leaving me?

"I'm gonna be late." You murmured, hurrying after him.

Your day in school was okay, minus the fact that you being in class 3B stayed on your mind... and Gakushuu stared at you whenever you pass by each other. It's nerve wracking and uncomfortable. He won't mind his friends and the girls fawning over him; his gaze was focused only on you. A shiver ran down your spine.

You tried your best to ignore him and just did various activities. At the end of the day, you were tired yet again.

The hill from the dream last night was in front of you. You didn't notice that you walked towards the hill instead of going home. A chilly breeze blew and leaves danced in the air. The weather report earlier said that in the next four days it will rain all day, meaning this will be the last day of this week that you can feel warmth from the sun.

And again, the sun began to set. As that happened, memories from this hill filled your mind and it felt like walking down the memory lane. The orange circle ahead of you became an orange line. Then you closed your eyes.

"I wish that I could see him again. My playmate in this hill."

"Do you mean me?" You turned around and saw Gakushuu. Your eyes widened. No. It can't be. If he's my childhood friend then why can't I remember him, right? "Hi, (y/n)-chan." The way he said your name made something flick above you like a lightbulb.

"A-Asano-kun?"

"You used to call me Gakushuu-kun."

Your cheeks burned as a realisation hit you like a flying brick. He's the one that I like? Woah there.

"So, did you and the one you like got mutual feelings for each other? Wait, who's the lucky guy anyway?"

"Idiot." You mumbled and gasped. He's the son of the board chairman and—

"Don't worry, I won't expel you." He said, letting out a hearty laugh. Your heart pounded in your chest as you heard his laugh. Gakushuu-kun's laugh... it really is him. "So who is it?" Gakushuu's smile almost caught you off-guard.

"It's... it's... you." You shut your eyes tightly, afraid of his reaction. Gakushuu remained silent for a long time, making you more anxious than ever.

"This is the fifty-first day that I watched the sunset. And I never expected that my feelings will be requited right away."

Huh?

"Thanks. And I like you too." And I like you too. His words rang over and over and over again in your head like a bell.

You whipped your head to look at him. "But... but... the last time that we watched the sunset together was my forty-eighth time."

Gakushuu chuckled and ruffled your hair. "It's your 51st time that day. I've been counting. So that's why I felt something weird that time." He teased, smirking. "I like you, (y/n)-chan."

"I like you too."

"Took you long enough."

Was Gakushuu too ooc? Hope not. Anyways, hope you enjoyed!
