Loose Cannon
"Ari, don't turn around but there's a lot of redheads looking at you." Sam snickered into my ear, scaring me. I quickly turned around and looked at them, who were surprised when they made eye contact with me.
"Dumbass, look front!" Sam hissed at me, smacking the back of my head. I rubbed my head at the spot that he hit, grumbling under my breath.
"What do you think they're here for?" I asked, leaning towards him. Goddammit, first Lolita comes in my dreams and now a bunch of redheads are staring at me as if I'm their long lost family. To be fair, our hair colour did match a bit. Scratch that, a lot.
"Hey, maybe they're here to pick one of us to take with them for the adventure of a lifetime." He laughed, grabbing the attention of Kate.
"Whatcha talking about, nerds?" Sam gave her the summary of what we were discussing about and she went into deep thought. "Hey, maybe they're her long lost family or something." She remarked, pointing at me. "You guys have the same shade of coloured hair, well almost." She shrugged.
My closest friends knew that I was adopted. It wasn't a secret to them and I didn't feel like it needed to be kept as a secret. Hey, mum and dad were the best mum and dad in the world and they don't mind that I told my friends about it. No harm, no foul.
"The three musketeers, if you would stop gossiping and start doing the steps, much appreciated." The teacher called us out, the class snickering. We all blushed bright red and bowing our heads, got to our positions. Soon, a girl walked in and whispered something in the teachers' ear. She nodded and cleared her throat.
"Arianna, the office needs you." I looked at my friends with a surprised look on my face and saw it being mirrored on their faces as well. I quickly got up, took my things and walked out, waving bye to the class. I reached the office in record time and saw my mum, with a bunch of the redheads and there was a black haired guy present as well, with his hair sticking out as if he had never ran a comb through his hair in his entire life. But he was cute, not going to lie. Stop, focus!
"Mum, what's going on?" I focused on my mum who at that very moment, had a proud look on her face. Wait a minute, had I again done something weird? Goddammit, Lolita should really show me how to control these bouts of accidental magic I keep on having in my sleep. "I'm not being taken to a mental institution?"
"No, blue." She laughed, along with two other people who had identical looks. Twins, wow! "Remember when you started levitating stuff?"
"Oh mummy." I groaned. "You must be joking, I didn't do anything like that. You were hallucinating!" Goddammit, she was going to charter me off to the mental institution. I couldn't explain to her that I was having these weird dreams from Lolita who was inherently teaching me all about magic and I accidentally made everything levitate, now could I? She wouldn't understand, no one would.
"Well, I thought so too." She explained. "But now I know you were doing all that stuff. These people can do it too!" She nodded and gestured at the redheads behind her, smiling with excitement. "Honey, you're a witch!"
Well fuck. I nodded and looked at them, smiling slightly. Then I promptly fainted.
How in the seven hells did my mother come to that brilliant conclusion? Soon, she'll say that Hogwarts is real. Oh no.
When I woke up, I was facing the ceiling of my living room. I had a faint smile on my face, it was nothing but a dream. I dozed off, nothing special.
"Mum, she's awake!"
Wait, that's not a voice I know. Fuck, fuck, fuck!
"Do you want some water, dear?" I nodded and soon was handed a glass of water, which I drank with glee after sitting up off the sofa. Soon I looked around and found the same group of people on my sofa, hanging around. Oh, there's another brunette girl! How did I miss that?
"I'm a witch." I spoke out, trembling slightly. For four years I had contemplated with the fact that I was just joking, I would never find another one like me and suddenly, I found a whole family that could do the same things I can. For years I had thought that I would be alone with this secret. "Prove it."
The red headed man nodded and took out his wand, pointing at the ceiling. "Avis."
"Birds." I whispered looking up at the ceiling, missing the frown the brunette had after listening to me. I was not surprised. There were tens of small birds just roaming around, flying over all of our heads. Mum was looking at all of this with wonder in her eyes, not having seen something like this ever before. Me, I had seen this charm being performed by Lolita in her third year.
"I'm Molly and this is my husband, Arthur." The woman came forward, smiling at me. "The red heads are my children. There's Fred and George, Ron, Ginny and those two are Ron's friends, Harry and Hermione." They all nodded at their names, smiling slightly.
"Pleasure to meet you." I smiled, looking at them. I stopped longer than necessary looking at Harry and his hair poking around, which he noticed and tried to flatten it down, much to the amusement of the twins and Ron. "Why have you come here?"
"There's a school." Arthur said, moving forward. "All children with magical powers get enrolled there. Somehow, you were supposed to come when you turned eleven but we missed you. The school enables you to control your powers so that you don't levitate everything in front of people who don't have magic." He nodded and smiled as mum nodded and smiled.
"What's the school's name?" I asked, looking at Ginny. "Do you guys go there too?"
They all nodded and Hermione came forward to explain. "It's called Hogwarts. It's this massive castle situated in Scotland and they teach us loads of subjects, we stay there year around."
"Let me guess, I have to go?" I asked, looking around. Mum grew sadder at that, wiping her eyes with a towel.
"Mum, why the tears?" I got up from the sofa and walked to where she was sitting, kneeling down in front of her. "Hey, it's just a school."
"It just feels like you're going off to high school for the first time." She sniffed and smiled. "You know me I'm very emotional." She looked at Molly and then smiled. "It's safe there, right?"
"Hogwarts is the safest place in the world." Molly said seriously. "Nothing's going to happen to her and Ron, Harry and Hermione will look after her, wouldn't you guys?" They nodded and Harry spoke up. "Yeah, we'll all hang out together."
"See, mummy there's nothing to worry about." I nodded. "I'll write to you all the time, you'll see."
Behind her, Hermione frowned. There was no way she knew that electronic items don't work in Hogwarts because of the magical interfaces. It must be a big coincidence.
"We really must be going dear." Molly said, nodding at her. Mum nodded and dried off the tears and we got up simultaneously. Doesn't term start in September? Where are they taking me in the midst of August? Holy shit, maybe they're kidnapping me.
"Um, when does school start?" I asked tentatively, wondering what actually was the real reason.
"Oh, we thought it'd be better if you got settled with the stuff that you missed from first year onwards before heading up to school in September." Ginny said, while Hermione nodded. "We'll help you with the necessary stuff that you need to cover up."
Cover up, huh. I quite possibly knew more magic that they knew but I kept my mouth shut. I quietly nodded and went upstairs to get changed and packed my bags, not forgetting to take my journals. Ginny and Hermione came up after sometime to help but thankfully they knocked before barging in (my whole hand was in the suitcase, helpful little charm Capacious extremis was really) and shut my suitcase as soon as they came in, huffing.
"Finished packing?" Ginny asked, to which I nodded. I gestured to my large suitcase (made larger) and they nodded. "Let's go then. I'm quite excited to have another girl with us." Hermione said as we walked down the stairs.
As we came down, dad seemed to have come back by then. All of them were talking to each other and as we entered, mum's eyes started watering.
"Oh, baby." She started sobbing and I quickly went and hugged her.
"Mum!" I coddled her as she wept, making me cry a bit as well. "I'm not going to leave you! I'm just going to school and I will write to you, you know that!"
"Oh, blue." She let go of me and I hugged dad. He hugged me back tightly. "Don't forget about us, baby." He whispered as he kissed my forehead, making my sob out.
"Never dad."
I let go and walked out after the lot, my parents hugging each other and waving at me from the door. We got in two cabs and Mr. Weasely told the driver to head to Wilson Park, which was a good 10 minutes.
After getting there, they showed me another kind of magic, apperation. It's quite a fancy word for teleportation and it was so cool, I had never seen this, even from Lolita. I grabbed Molly's hand and we arrived in another part of the world, entirely. Ginny quickly explained that we were in London and at Grimmauld Place. I nodded and Molly gave me a piece of paper which had a few words written on it.
'The Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix is at 12 Grimmauld Place London'.
Wait a minute, what was this? I looked around and I guess the disbelief would've shown on my face because Harry laughed and whispered, "Just think about it, we'll explain later."
I turned around and as I began thinking about it, the walls started rumbling. Suddenly the walls of 11 and 13 began to move and new walls were constructed, the number 12 appearing all of a sudden. "Bloody hell." I whispered, Ron snickering behind me.
"You know, I think we're going to get along quite well." He whispered. "Those were my first words as well."
We went in through the tunnel and there was a door. As Arthur opened it, there was this woman who just started shrieking. I quickly shut my ears and walked faster, going inside. Holy shit, who was this woman? As we went in, I got my answer.
It was a portrait. A bloody portrait.
Sometimes, magic never fails to impress me.
As we passed by her, she started shrieking louder seeing the redheads. The term 'mudbloods' and 'filthy blood traitors' were repeated so many times, each time going up in intensity, I thought I was going to turn deaf. When I passed by her, she suddenly grew quiet.
"And you must be a blood traitor as well." She arched her eyebrow.
"I literally have no idea what's a blood traitor." I shrugged. "If it helps, I didn't know I had magic until a few hours ago."
"You have the eyes." She looked at me. "You also look like my mother-in-law. Who's your father?"
"I was adopted." I shrugged. "I have no clue, lady."
Behind, Fred and George looked at me in wonder. For the first time, the portrait wasn't screeching. They were having a conversation. A normal conversation! Two men followed the twins, looking at them in wonder.
"She finally managed to shut her up." One man said. "Maybe she's not your daughter."
"She is." The other man said. "Mother is just fascinated there's another Black who didn't turn out to be a blood traitor."
"Well, for all intents and purposes, I'm your grandmother, Walburga. You may address me as such." She spoke. "I really hope you're Regulas' daughter."
"Excuse me, who?" I asked, surprised. Regulas. Was that really my father?
"Okay, that's enough." A man with long black hair came from behind and pulled the curtains on her, covering her instantly. Her screams were silenced, making the man turn to me. It was then I saw it, the eyes. It was like looking back at a mirror image.
"I'm Sirius, Sirius Black."
.....holy shit, he's the person who was televised to be highly dangerous!
"There's a goddamn murderer in the house!" A crash and a sound was heard, making the three of us look at each other with surprise on our faces and we quickly rushed down the stairs, Ginny following us.
In the dining room, there was Arianna on one side and Sirius on the other, Arianna holding up a vase?
Ron snickered, Hermione hit him on the shoulder. On the other end, Fred and George were laughing around, looking at them. Remus was on Arianna's side, trying to explain it to her that Sirius was innocent.
"He was literally shown on the television as being dangerous, I'm not blind." She raged, her cheeks red. That was so cute, bloody hell.
Harry Potter, you have other things to think about! Voldemort is back, he's ruining your life for the fifth consecutive time.
Arianna is very cute.
No! Sirius will kill you and he'll really be convicted of murder.
"Arianna, listen to me. Sirius was wrongly convicted of murder." Remus explained in a gentle voice, looking at her. "Why don't you put down the vase?"
"I don't think so." She muttered, finally relenting and putting down the vase. "He really looks like he's in hiding."
"Oh yeah, I am." Sirius guffawed, making Arianna pick up the vase again. "Sirius!" Remus shouted.
"Hey, if he was wrongly accused, he should be cleared of all charges via a truth serum thing, right?" She asked, looking at Remus. She turned to Hermione. "You do have truth serums right?"
"Yes." She nodded, frowning slightly. "But he escaped, bringing him in front of courts would be suicide."
"Ah." She slowly put down the vase, looking straight at him. "I have one question for you."
"Ask away." He said, eyes twinkling. "You remind me of your mother."
"We've got the same eyes." She whispered. "Why?"
"Because I'm your father." He answered back, looking at her. "And you're the splitting image of your mother."
Her face was pale, paler than I'd ever seen it. I slowly moved towards her, her feet loosing balance and she landed in my arms, fainting again. Her hair was just the right shade of red and her face was so small and cute, I felt like putting her close to me and never letting her go. I slowly moved her towards the sofa, putting a blanket on her.
"That isn't creepy at all." Hermione nudged me, looking at her. Ron snickered.
"He's got a crush." Ron continued, then laughed more. "Mate, Sirius is going to kill you."
"No, I haven't." I cleared my throat, my face red. "Got a crush on her, I mean."
"Sure mate."
