Chapter 7 : The Unknown

Nico sat beside Percy's bed in St. Mungo's, bags under his eyes and limbs shaking from exhaustion.

Percy's magic had gone haywire after he returned to the side of the Weasley tent to met up with Nico. The healers don't know what caused such magical instability. Some theorize that he had been tortured via Crucio, but his nerve endings are perfectly intact. It was his magic. Something went wrong, and it was bewildering all of the healers, especially when one of the best healers in Britain was reported to be in service to the Malfoy family, the heir experiencing the same thing as Percy.

Magical instability.

The only thing the healers could do was keep Percy sedated while they tried to treat whatever went wrong; but, the healers began to notice that over time, Percy was slowly healing himself. What they also noticed was that when any magic was used on or around Percy, he got setbacks in his recovery and his magic reacted violently. Then, the healers learned that they had to use muggle sedatives and hope for the best as Percy healed himself.

The healers estimate that Percy will be well enough to wake up on September 12th and be fully healed on October 5th; but there was no guarantee. They were going off of how fast Percy was healing himself, they don't know if that'll change once he wakes up, whether his healing will accelerate or slow down.

This was one of the biggest medical anomalies of the century. Healers from all over the world were invited to St. Mungo's to study Percy's condition and attempt to better it.

Ever since a healer from America suggested to bring the Malfoy heir and Poseidon heir together to see how their magic reacted, the healing world dissolved into two sides of political war.

One side theorized that if the two boys were brought together, their magic would latch onto each other and trigger a violent explosion that could wipe out St. Mungo's.

The other side theorized that if the two boys were in vicinity, their magic would potentially heal each other and they would make another magical break through that could change the theory of magic and how it responded when in danger.

Basically, one side wanted to use Percy and Draco as test subjects while the other side didn't.

Even if the healers came to the conclusion that bringing the boys together was a course of action they should take, it wasn't up to them.

It was up to the parents.

As soon as Draco's healer told Narcissa and Lucius of the theory, they immediately said that they would never use their son as a test subject, period.

The healers tried to get in contact with Percy's parents to only realize that they were diseased and the boy was emancipated- a legal adult at age 17.

It was up to him whether or not he was willing to try being near Draco, but he wasn't due to wake up until September, around two months away.

Upon learning that discovery, the healers that wanted to use the boys as an experiment stop pressing for their meeting, their greed in finding more about magic deflating.

The chances of the "test subject" agreeing to be a test subject was a 1/1,000,000 chance, and they knew it.

Going back to Nico, he was feeling very high strung. The only thing that relaxed him while knowing that Percy was like this was reading and playing Mythomagic (although, he'll never admit that he still had the deck of cards).

Right now, he was reading a book that went over the vital points of wizarding society, and he happened to be on a chapter about magical bonds.

Natural and Made Magical Bonds

A magical bond is when two wizards/witches are connected/tied to each other. The connection is more often then not romantic.

A magical bond simply means that the two wizards/witches magic is compatable, and their magic waives together, connecting the two people.

There's a marriage bond, where two magical people exchange vows and promises, and in doing so, their magic is melded together for the rest of their lives.

There's a familial bond, in which the mother or father puts a temporary tether on their child's magic so that they could ensure that their child never gets lost, as they are bound to their parent(s) and will feel the need to stay close to them. The familial bond is only used on small children, and for most cases, is used to calm the infant when their parent is away (the distance of the tether can be controlled).

When having a magical bond, two or more peoples have a connection to each other. Think of two rivers combining into one. They are able to feel each others magic around them, no matter the distance.

Furthermore, there is a natural bond, one of the rarest bonds in wizarding society. 1 out of 25 magical couples have a natural bond.

A natural bond is when a person's magic connects with another's magic without any spellwork or rituals. The magic connects by itself and induces feelings such as attraction, trust, and in some cases, love.

Most people only connect with one person in their lifetime, but some have been recorded to have 5 natural bonds with different people.

There are three levels of a natural bond.

The low level natural bond is when two people meet and have an instant interest in one another. They have a small attraction to each other and see the other as a potential partner. This bond is the most common, although most pass it off as a normal feeling when meeting someone that you like. That is how weak this magical bond is.

72% of wizards that have a natural bond have a low level setting.

The regular level bond is when two people meet and have a larger than normal attraction to each other. The attraction is often labeled as lust, although, thoughts of being partners often go through the wizard's mind. This is the type of relationship that is a bit more unstable out of the 3 natural bonds because while the people have immense interest in each other, the slightly faster than pace may throw them off.

21% of wizards that have a natural bond have a regular setting.

The high level natural bond is the most obvious natural bond. The bond is easily recognizable, more so than a regular or low level bond.

The people that meet and have a high level bond often say that it's almost like love at first sight. They want their partner in every way, and their relationship is the most stable out of the 3 natural bonds.

They will only have eyes for each other, and what's better is that if one of the wizards is under the influence of a love potion, the bond will fight off the influence and they will be free. The bond is recorded to fight off the love potion in 2 weeks time after meeting their bonded. Even Amorentia has been defeated by a high level natural bond.

7% of wizards that have a natural bond have a high level setting.

Other things to look out for:

Wizards with a high level attraction are advanced in the courting system. Their magic will pull them to the other person no matter the situation.

It is normal if the two wizards/witches are more affectionate with each other upon the first meeting.

Low and high level bonded have a stabler relationship than regular bonded do, and usually have less struggle in their relationship.

Effects:

If a high level bonded wizard dies, their partner will die with them, at the same second, no matter how far away from each other they are.

If a regular level bonded wizard dies, their partner will live, but they will be in extreme depression for a while. The depression usually lasts a few months, but it has been recorded that the depression has lasted up to 3 years for a witch (identity concield for privacy reasons). 80% of regular level bonded wizards that have lost their partner are driven to insanity by their loss and usually die in a year after their partner's death.

If a low level bonded wizard dies, their partner will live and morn, but they will move on. 10% of low level bonded go into depression after their bonded dies, but they always move on and live the rest of their life.

Nico drank in the chapter in shock, his mind connecting the dots.

Draco Malfoy and Percy had a natural bond.

But the question was, was it high or regular leveled?

Nico mulled on the thought, his heart sinking to his stomach.

Three goddesses sent him and Percy to the wizarding world. It made sense to send Percy, he had rotten luck. But him?

Why was Nico here? What was his purpose?

Three goddesses. Hecate, Nemesis, and Aphrodite.

Out of all, one had the biggest reputation for interfering with mortal and demigod lives.

Aphrodite, goddess of love.

Nico slammed the book shut, his cheeks flushing in anger.

Oh how he hated Aphrodite.
