CHPATER SEVEN

"What the fuck Riley? What are you doing?" I say, turning away from her.

"Stop Acelin." She says, walking over to me and taking my hand. "Don't you want to touch me?" Riley smiles.

"Look. Cole is a brother to me, and you're his girlfriend. I don't think he'd approve of this."  I say, getting a bit irritated as the thought of Cole walking in on this floods my mind.

"That's why he doesn't have to know Ace." Riley says, tracing and running her hands all over her naked body. "I won't tell if you wont."

She moves closer, her body inches away from mine. "Tell me you haven't dreamed of getting this close to me. Tell me you don't want to do this."

I took a moment to stare at her, unable to imagine the thoughts that were running through her mind. She looked at me with her piercing brown eyes , that felt like she wasn't just staring at me but staring into my soul.

The thought of getting with her had never crossed my mind even for a minute. Now, it was a different story.
Her porcelain skin looked like they had so much life in them, her eyes were wild with desire and a glint of mischief in them.

I rubbed my hand through my hair, getting fed up.
I knew the right thing to do was to blatantly leave and say no. The thing is, it isn't that easy.

She takes her hand and rums them down the button of my Jeans.

I wish I didn't have a fucking dick.

I stood there, unable to move.
I couldn't believe I found myself in this position.
Cole's girlfriend wanted to cheat on him with me.

Not that I could blame her.

She stared at me with lust , determined to get what she wanted.
I knew I couldn't do this to Cole. He is family and doesn't deserve it.

"Look Riley, this has to stop."

"But Ace, you want to d-"

"Just get fucking dressed. Cole would hate to see you like this." I interrupt and head out the door.

CAMILLE•

The hardest part of not getting anxious, is getting anxious.

I sat in the waiting room of The Prime Headquarters, one of the biggest magazine companies in the country.

I looked around and the first thought that ran through my mind was how busy it was.
The golden chandeliers matched the staff uniform which was in the colours white and gold.

The office was immaculate.

I bent my head to the tiled floor and I couldn't help but notice how the light's and chandelier's reflected on the ground.
Everyone was engaged in some form of discussion while I just sat here on this highly comfortable chair, waiting to get this interview over and done with.

I hardly got frightened by anything, a skill I had developed.
Although, I occasionally got put off by the littlest things.

Like right now, in this overly polished office.

Looking back at the incidents that led up to this moment, I think it's safe to say that fate isn't a total bitch.

Sometimes.

I actually secured an interview at The Prime Magazine.
Those take months before anyone is even considered for a five-minute interview.

Here I was.

Broke, homeless and living with the campus asshole and manwhore.

My thoughts are instantly interrupted when the receptionist let's me know Ian Myers is ready to see me.

I fiddle through my documents and get up in a hurry.

"Seventh floor, first room. Good luck." The receptionist calls out.

I walk towards the elevator and press the button tagged "7."

I listen to the awkward elevator music and try to stop incessantly overthinking.

As soon as the elevator stops at the seventh floor, I walk out and take a look at the large row of offices.

Okay. Seventh floor, first room.

I turn to the right and see a door with the sign "Ian Myers."

I place a solid knock on the door which earns the response "Come in."

I take a deep breath, twist the shiny doorknob and get into his office.

"Good afternoon Miss Ray, take a seat." He says, motioning to the empty office chair across him.

I did a quick scan of his office which gave me an idea of his character.
The office was...plain.

In front of me was his desk which had his laptop, notebook and different colour pens.
The corner of the room housed a flower pot that had a beautiful fake plant.

The room contained a standard office desk that looked firm under the mount of books on it.
The office had a coffee table, mini library, a drawer, expensive paintings and a few other things that weren't any bit different from the average office.

"Miss Ray, is everything alright?" He asks, interrupting my train of thought.

"Of course! I was just looking around. You have pretty nice...paper." I say, unsure of what to compliment.

I give myself a mental beating.

"It's a basic office, I know. I'm glad you like my paper."He laughs. "Okay, let's get down to business. Can I have your documents?"

I reach for my file and stretch it out to him.
He takes it and brushes through every single document like he was used to this process and had done it a million times.

"A four point seven GPA? Pretty impressive." He points out , without looking at me.

"Everything I'm seeing is great. How about you tell me where you learnt how to sing like that." He smiles.

"Natural skill. My mother was the goddess Aoede. So, it's only natural I inherit her skill." I laugh.

"I knew it! That voice was far too heavenly to be from a mere human."

"Thank you kind mortal." I say, trying not to laugh so much before I embarrass myself and start snorting.

I couldn't help but notice how when he smiled, it felt like his eyes did too. He was soft spoken, only a few years older than me.
My mind couldn't understand how strange this interview was. We kept laughing and joking like old friends that hadn't seen each other in years.

"I'm so glad I offered you this interview Camille. You're smart and funny."

"Thank you sir, I appreciate it."

"Sir? I'm just three years older than you are." He smiles.  "You know what? Pretend I'm just a normal guy."

"You mean I should pretend you're not a millionaire and not the soon to be CEO of this company?" I say, stifling a laugh.

"Exactly. If you can do that , then you get the job."

"Deal."

****

I stood outside the door of Acelins apartment. I hadn't told him I was going for an interview but I'm almost certain he already knew.

We hadn't seen much of each other which was why I had asked him to accompany me for coffee.
I used the opportunity to make it clear to him that he did not interest me romantically but I appreciated him and knew that deep down he wasn't a complete douchebag.

I walk into the apartment with the extra house keys that Acelin had given me.
I find him sitting over the wooden office desk with his head a little too close to the computer.

The mini office was dimly lit as the lights were turned off. The only source of light came from Acelin's computer. Even then , it was a bit too dark.

"How was your interview Camille?" He calls out, not bothering to look in my direction "Get the job?"

I exhale "I don't know actually. We ended up laughing and joking throughout the entire interview. But, I'm pretty sure I did."

"That's good news." He says, lifting his eyes from the screen "As a partial celebration, I say we go out. As friends of course." He smirks.

"First of all, I'm turning on the lights you vampire. Secondly, where do you have in mind?" I laugh, walking over to the light switch then proceeding to turn on the lights.

"I'm surprised, I didn't have to use my amazing charm and wit to get you do something fun." Acelin jokes.

"I'm super fun!" I whine. "In fact, I'm probably more fun that you are."

"I'm sorry, did you use the word fun and you in the same sentence?" Acelin asks , his eyes wide with amusement.

"Yes, yes I did." I giggle "You know what? Enough chit chat. Let's both get dressed. Any location of your choice. Let the fun begin."

"I'd say I'm so sorry for you but I'm excited to see where all this confidence Is coming from." He smirks. "Go get ready."

***

Acelin was driving us to some unknown location.
Although I was absolutely terrified, I stood my ground and let him like the bad bitch I am.

"Just tell me where we are going." I nagged.

"Is someone anxious?" He asked , his lips curving into a smile. "Stop nagging, I'm trying to keep my eyes on the road."

"Fine." I sighed. "I'm getting major serial killer vibes."

He continued ignoring my attempts to get answers so I decided to have this weird thing called "Patience."

He wasn't completely ignoring me. He would avert his eyes from the road every once in a while and look at me with a slight grin I pretended not to see.

His eyes looked like they had little stars or beams of light in them that drew you in completely or got you too scared to look closer.

"We're here." Acelin says , amused by the fact that I had suddenly gone silent.

"Oh." I say, collecting my thoughts. "Let's go inside."

We get out of the car and head to a run down and rusty gate.

"What's this?" I ask, a little bit scared.

"Trust me." He replies, getting a key from his pocket and unlocking the gate.

"This keeps sounding more and more like a horror story." I mumble.

We walk inside and Acelin turns on this big switch that immediately gives everything life.

We're at an amusement park.

Everywhere is very well lit , with clean functioning rides , games and everything in between.

I couldn't remember the last time I had been to an amusement park. I was more than excited to be here.
Rollercoasters , ferris wheel and even pin the tail on the donkey.

"This- this is amazing." I said, eyes wide with excitement.

"Enough staring."

Those were Acelins last words before he carried me on his back and took me to show me what "fun" feels like.
