CHAPTER THREE
●Camille●
I really hope he doesn't always walk around like that.
Casually, half-naked.
Not that I was fazed by it, I just wasn't comfortable.
I definitely wasn't used to men casually walking around half-naked and me living with them.
I found my current situation very weird.
I was living with Acelin Smith.
Your typical college asshole.
Has sex about 373763 times a day, break's heart's and goes on with life.
People that know both of us, usually said we're so alike.
I found that disturbing.
Me? Like him?
Hell no.
I place a written note for him on the kitchen counter telling him I'm heading out for a while.
If the note is in the kitchen, there's absolutely no way he won't see it.
Other than women, food was next.
I wore an old jagged T-shirt, faded blue jeans and sneakers to head out. I dressed up exactly as I felt, old and worn out.
I texted my best friend Kade to meet me at our spot "The Top"
It was our favourite spot, the coffee shop.
Where we first met.
Our friendship wasn't by accident or fate, but a friendship born out of genuine niceness.
It was the period my mum died, months ago.
No one reached out to me.
Not that I had many friends. But the few I had, didn't.
People gave excuses like "Oh, we haven't spoken in a while. Heard your mum passed last month? Assumed you needed some space"
Space.
The least you could do was check up on me, show you care or maybe even say hello?
No one did, except some stranger with tattoos and a tongue piercing.
That was Kade.
Kade and I sat at opposite sides of the wooden coffee table.
He had ordered his usual black coffee, mine was the opposite.
The coffee shop was the same day as any other afternoon.
As usual, it was filled with businessmen that came here to relax during office break, couples that often came here to have lattes.
To me, seeing the same routine and people here most afternoon's was extremely refreshing.
The atmosphere what light and friendly, as it usually was over here.
Waitresses getting orders, people having calm relaxing conversations, being here was a breath of fresh air.
"If I didn't love coffee so much, I would have spat it out the moment you said those words" he laughed. "Living. With. Acelin. Smith"
"I know, it's pretty weird for me too" I shrugged "I do appreciate the kind gesture. He did pick up my vomit-covered body"
"I agree," he said, pressing the metal on his tongue against his teeth, a habit he had formed.
"Maybe he wants to sleep with you. Can't put it past him"
"I have no idea, but I don't want to think about it. I just want to get a new job, save up enough money and leave"
I said, taking a sip out of my coffee.
"I'm still mad of you for not telling me you got evicted from your apartment. I'm always here, you know that"
"Yes Kade, you promised to hate me forever" I laughed "In my defence, you weren't having the best time either. I didn't want to add to that you know ?"
"You could never"
We talk about anything and everything.
With Kade, it was easy to open up.
It was easy to cringe too.
"In case you do have sex with him, I will provide you magic condoms" he laughed.
Wait a second, magic condoms?
"Stop it!" I whined "It's not going to happen alright? What the fuck are magic condoms anyway?"
"Magic condoms are condoms that make sex for first timers less painful"
I scooted my chair closer "Really?"
"Of course not Camille my virgin friend, go get laid. You're as naive as they come" he laughed, gripping the table.
"I hate you " I glared "You're as mean as they come"
"Thank you, thank you. I humbly accept all that praise."
After letting Kade tease me for a few more minutes, talking about random stuff for about an hour, I decided I wanted to get back to Acelin's apartment.
I needed to take steps to get my life planned out.
Here I am.
Broke, homeless and with the little shred of dignity I had left.
"I'm leaving you asshole, take care of yourself alright ?" I say, walking out of the coffee shop.
"See ya later magic condom virgin!" He yells back, causing people to stare at him, and me.
But that was the thing with Kade.
He always had people's attention, with his charming asshole self.
Being best friends with him, I can assure you it's not something you get used to.
If that cheeky waitress places my order with the name "Magic condom virgin" I will skewer Kade alive.
I knocked on the door of Acelin's apartment, there was no response.
I decide to twist the doorknob, maybe he left it open.
He did.
I guess "safety first" doesn't exist anymore.
I get in and the living room is trashed.
I walk around to the kitchen, all the groceries that we left on the kitchen counter is on the floor.
Was there a robbery? Is Ace alright?
I look around the living room again.
The cream coloured sofa's looked like they've been moved, the coffee table at the centre of the living room has clearly been shifted.
The whole living room is a mess.
I decide to look for something to use as a weapon.
Just in case the robber is still here, I'll be armed.
But there's nothing, except a fire extinguisher.
I'll take it.
I grab the fire extinguisher, trying to ignore how heavy it is.
I walk slowly and cautiously to Ace's room.
I hope he's okay.
I take deep breaths and barge in.
"Oh, shit" I mutter under my breath.
It's Ace and the waitress that served us our burgers.
She's lying down, breathing heavily under the sheets and Ace beside her.
I instantly feel heat rise to my cheeks, this is as embarrassing as it gets.
I notice Ace is staring at me, suppressing a laugh.
How does he find this situation funny?
I head out and close the room door as soon as I realised what I just walked in on.
I know I shouldn't be surprised but what type of rough sex is this anyway?
The whole living room is trashed.
After a few minutes later the waitress walks out the door.
I ignore her questioning looks at me, I'm too busy trying to make this living room look decent again.
"Sorry about that, are you alright?" Ace calls out.
"Yeah, I'm great. A little worried though, how did your living room get this messed up" I ask, pointing to the out of place coffee table, displaced sofa and the broken lamp.
He stifled a laugh "Let's say she's a little intense"
"A little ?"
"A lot"
"Can I ask you something?" Says Ace, moving closer to me
"Yeah?"
"Why we're you holding a fire extinguisher?" He laughs "I tried so hard not to laugh"
"Oh shut up" I roll my eyes at him "I thought we were getting robbed you rough sex maniac"
"And a fire extinguisher was the next best thing ?"
I can't help but laugh at my choice of weapon "I think I made an excellent choice"
He decides to help me re-arrange the living room and the kitchen as well.
He occasionally makes horrible jokes about fire extinguisher's but I ignore him all through.
"Go out with me ?" He asks, popping down on the sofa
"What? No"
"Relax, let me explain" he exhales.
"My mum just opened an NGO for charity. She's having some classy event to tell all the snobby old rich people to get involved"
"That's great and all but how does that have to do with me ?"
"I need a date"
"Great, ask one of your female friends then" I retort, heading over to the kitchen to get started on dinner.
"The thing is, I cant"
"And why is that Acelin?" I say, moving away from him.
He grips my hand and spins me around to face him.
"Because I told her you're living with me and you're my girlfriend"
"You what? What the fuck Ace ?"
"Please Camille, be my girlfriend?" He sighs "Just for one night"
I look into his piercing blue eyes, I knew I couldn't say no.
I don't want to do this, but I'll follow through anyway.
Just for one night.
It better be.
