Part 2: The Sea Monster
Cabin Boy Mason was puzzled, his brown eyes clearly not understanding what Kieran just read. Why had the Queen summoned us here? Could it be that we're special? A sad memory came to mind. He was in preschool and his teacher said that we're all special. He remembered that, with his freckled face and dark brown hair differing from the rest in his class, he believed he was special. He believed it for a long time, until a new student, by the name of Val, asked the teacher if Mason was special, because he didn't believe that he was special. He shoved the thought away as Captain Kieran hoisted the sails and the Sailtrain began to move.
"We're settin' sail now!" hollered Kieran, "We'll be there in no time"
And so the crew set off in search of the palace. The letter gave no directions and soon the crew was lost.
"Kieran, did you get us lost out here?!" Savannah asked angrily.
Kieran struggled to reply, "Well... the map didn't give us directions so..."
Savannah interrupted, "Wait, you were sailing blindly?!"
"Umm... maybe."
"Maybe I can help?" said an unknown voice.
Mason was scared. He didn't know who or what it was, but his questions were soon answered when a small sea monster leaped up and landed on the Sailtrain.
"Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself," the sea monster said politely, "I am Zoran, a local sea monster. I heard you bickering and decided to see what the trouble was. So, what's the trouble?"
Mason was still in a state of shock, but replied calmly, "You see, we're trying to get to the Floating Palace and we got lost. If you know where it is, can you please help us?"
"Oh, so you got my letter!" Zoran replied cheerfully.
"What?!" Kieran yowled, "So it was you who sent the letter!"
"Why, yes, and I knew you'd stop by here. Tell ya what, I'll give you directions to the palace."
"Ok then, where are we supposed to go?"
Zoran pointed North, "The castle is that way. You just have to pass the Stormy Coast, the Sweet Sweet Island, and the Denial Delta. Then you'll be able to reach the Floating Castle and then you can finish your adventure and return home."
"Is there a catch?"
"Not exactly, but I must warn you. Beware the dangers that follow. Once you get to the Stormy Coast, things get rough."
"What do you mean by rough?"
"That's for you to find out, not me. Now go on with your quest."
"Ok. We're settin' sail crew! Mason, hoist the sails! Tanner, lift the anchor! Savannah... stay where you are. Let's go!"
The Sailtrain started up again, the wheels turning, the sail waving, and the crew turned and went in the direction that Zoran told them to go. Mason thought that this could end badly, that they wouldn't make it to the Castle.
"We'll succeed," Mason told himself, clearing his doubts, "What could possibly go wrong?"
