Third-Person p.o.v
The vk's were in their remedial goodness class with Fairy Godmother, they were minding their own business when she walked down towards them.
"Children, excuse me um. As you know, this Sunday is Family Day here at Auradon Prep. Since your parents can't be here due to, uh... distance. We've arranged for a special treat." She walked back to retreat a cart with a tv screen and a keyboard on it. Fairy Godmother seemed far more excited than the kids did.
Why would they look forwards to seeing their parents? They all feared their parents, they were sent there with a mission and they didn't want to disappoint. Especially Mal.
She pressed a key on the keyboard and a screen appeared. The first person they saw was Maleficent as she had her face up against the camera.
"I don't see anything, nor do I hear," She was looking directly into the camera, but for Mal, it felt like she was looking directly at her.
"Kids!" Fairy Godmother gestured for them to come up to the screen and they obeyed, it's not like they could run away at this point.
"Press enter," Jafar's voice sent a shiver down Jay's spine, he didn't want to see his father right now, or maybe ever again.
"Can I please see a remote? Is this thing on?" Mal wasn't ready to see her mother this soon, she didn't have the wand yet and with Fairy Godmother in the room, they couldn't really discuss it.
Soon the villains were able to get the screen on and there they saw their children.
"Evie! It's mommy! Look how beautiful! oh, you know what they say, the poison apple doesn't fall far from the tree." The Evil Queen laughed, her laugh made Evie shift uncomfortably. It's been a while since she heard her mothers voice, it's been a while since it haunted her.
"Don't you mean the weeds." Maleficent snarked at her.
"Oh, who's the old bat?" Cruella asked. Carlos didn't even want to look at his mom, especially with Dude in his arms.
"This is Fairy Godmother," Mal answered from behind her. "Still doing tricks with eggplants?" Maleficent asked, she was trying to get on the fae's nerves.
"I turned a pumpkin into a beautiful carriage!" Fairy Godmother snapped back, apparently, it worked. "You really couldn't give Cinderella until one a.m.? I mean really, did the hamsters have to be back on their little wheels?" The parents laughed as Fairy Godmother appeared to get angrier.
"They were mice! They were not- they were mice!" She turned back to look at the children, she didn't want to go off and satisfy them. "Thank you so much, thank you." Mal tried to calm her down. Before she stepped to the side, she got close to the screen and whisper yelled "they were mice" one last time.
"Hi, mom!" Mal greeted her mother as they stepped closer to the screen. "Mal! I m-m-miss you." They watched as Maleficent struggled to tell her own daughter she missed her.
"You children are never far from our thoughts," Jafar spoke but Maleficent pushed him away. "I got it. How long must mommy wait to see you?" She asked, although what she really meant was 'when are you getting the wand'.
"Um, there's a big coronation coming up. I think sometime, probably after that," Mal reassured her. They will have the wand, nothing could stop them. At least, that's what they hoped.
"When?" Maleficent asked, geez she was really loud. "Friday! 10 a.m." Mal really hoped everything went according to plan. "You sure I can't see you before that? I don't know what I'll do if I don't get my hand on that magic wan- you.. you little nugget... That I love so much." Maleficent didn't seem to mind that Fairy Godmother was still in the room and her hearing her could compromise the mission.
"Yes, I completely understand mother."
"Carlos is that a dog?!" Cruella asked getting close to the screen. Mal moved aside so Cruella could get a better look. Dude whined as Cruella looked at him, could you blame him?
"Oh yes, yes baby. I do understand. It's the perfect size for earmuffs." Cruella was talking to a toy dog, her words caused Carlos to hug Dude tighter.
"He's the perfect size for a pet! This dog loves me and I love him!" Carlos snapped to his mother, this was the first time he stood up to her. He felt safe knowing he was miles away from her and she couldn't hurt him or dude.
"And fyi, your dog is stuffed! So give it a rest!" The parents gasped, well not Jafar, he went with "oh burn!" how mature.
"Oh, why don't you go sell a toaster, you two-bit salesman!" Cruella barked back at Jafar.
"People who talk to stuffed animals shouldn't throw stones!"
"Oh, well, people who sell toasters shouldn't use mix metaphors!"
They were about to continue bickering when Jay stepped in and ended the call. "I'm so sorry." Fairy Godmother apologized as soon as the screen disappeared, it was her idea and she should've known better. "Thank you for the special treat," Jay spoke for them, though none of them really felt thankful.
"M? What do you think our parents will do to us if we don't pull this off?" Evie asked Mal as they left the library. "I think they will be quietly disappointed in us, but ultimately proud of us for trying our best." They looked at each other as that didn't seem right.
"Really?" asked Carlos. "No, I think we are definitely goners." They all left the library and went their separate ways.
Carlos was walking with Dude by his side when he spotted Ben. He wondered if he should ask Ben about what Evie told him. He puffed out his chest and walked over to Ben's locker. 'Be confident Carlos' he told himself.
"Ben, can we talk?" Carlos asked as he leaned against the locker as those 'bad boys' in teen movies did. Ben closed his locker and turned to look at Carlos. "Sure, what's up?" He asked copying his moves, which made Carlos feel intimidated as Ben was taller than him.
"Uh well you see," Carlos thought for a second. 'He's still under the spell, so he'll remember what I said but he won't act on it. It's now or never, we don't have much time left.' Carlos looked back up and his eyes met with Ben's.
"I know we don't really know each other very well, but I wanted to get to know you better because I like you, ya know. Like go out- I mean hang out and talk. " Carlos bit his lip, he wasn't the best with words.
"Are you asking me out on a date?" Ben asked smiling. His teeth were super shiny, woah. "Are you saying you're into me?" Ben asked not even giving Carlos a chance to say anything. He got extremely close to Carlos as Ben got shot with a boost of confidence. Or maybe he just really had the hots for Carlos.
"I-I-" Carlos was at a loss for words. He did not expect things to go this way.
"Because if that's what you're saying, then yeah. Let's go out sometime." Ben whispered into Carlos' ear, said boy felt a shiver go down his spine, not only because of Ben's voice but because of how close he was to him. 'Was this because of the cookie?' Carlos asked himself.
"What about Mal?" Carlos asked causing Ben to smile and stepped back.
"Right Mal, look Carlos I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't really like Mal, as a friend yeah but that's all. I like you. I don't really know how to end things with girls, I thought after my coronation I'd end things with Mal. I'm not ready to tell my parents that I'm... well you know. I asked her to the coronation in front of everyone and I should at least be a gentleman and keep my promise." Ben explained the situation to a very confused Carlos.
'So the cookie didn't work?' He asked himself. "The spell wore off," Ben answered as if he had read Carlos' mind.
"How about we go on a walk?" Ben suggested. "We have classes to attend," Carlos replied, though he never expected himself to ever say that. "I don't mind cutting, do you?" Carlos thought about it for a second, he should say no and go to class but he did want to spend time with Ben...
"Let's do it." With that, they both went through a path behind the school that would take them through the forest.
Carlos wasn't sure on what to say, should he compliment Ben? What type of questions does he ask? Is this an actual date? Will he be able to answer some of Ben's questions? He hasn't experienced much here in Auradon but he didn't experience much on the Isle either unless causing trouble counts.
"Let's rest here." Ben pointed to some rocks that were too big for Carlos' liking. He followed the prince and climbed the rock. They just sat there which relaxed Carlos a bit.
Ben wanted to say something, he was filled with confidence and didn't want to miss the chance to be confident in what he said and did.
"You know, before you guys got here I was questioning myself and I was a reck. I didn't know who I was until you guys arrived and then I saw you. I thought if I didn't know I was gay before then I do now." Ben admitted looking at him as Carlos was looking up at the sky. He noticed Carlos blush a bit and he couldn't help but smile even more. Man, these Auradon kids are always smiling, doesn't it hurt by now?
"I mean I already knew I was too, but I didn't really expect myself to end up liking you or anyone for that matter. I was honestly scared that the people here would be against us for loving who we want, and that says a lot as I don't get scared a lot. I'm usually the one doing the scaring." Carlos looked over at Ben and chuckled.
"What's so funny?" Ben asked. "You're not scared of us, why? I thought it was because you're just too nice but I feel like there's more to that. There's more to you than what you lead on." Carlos wasn't good with words, but right now he felt like he was making words his bitch.
"Why would I be scared of a guy that's scared of dogs?" Ben joked causing Carlos to gasp dramatically. "Hey, if you had a mother like me, you'd be scared of dogs too."
"With me, I can show you a whole new world. You and your friends, give you the life you deserve." 'The one your father took away from us' Carlos thought. It hurt knowing that won't come true, 'Mal will take the wand and we'll go back to the Isle to release our parents. Because we're evil, like our parents.' Carlos said to himself.
"Have you had ice cream? I mean since you've got here, I'm sure there are things you haven't tried yet. I can show you the world of sweets before showing you the actual world." Ben laughed before he looked down at Carlos' hand. He wanted to hold it, promise him that he'll protect him. He knows how it feels to be seen as your parents and not as who you really are, although it's different scenarios between.
It was like Carlos had read his mind as he took Ben's hand into his. "I'd like that, king hot stuff." Carlos laughed and got closer to Ben as they continued to talk.
'King hot stuff? huh, thanks cutie.' Ben thought.
