I was in chemistry, a class I was lucky to have with Evie. I was sitting with her and Doug, the teacher was writing something on the board and Chad was looking over at Evie. Oh, and Evie was asking about Chad.
"Any chance he's in line for a throne?" She asked us. "Anywhere in line," She added looking over at him. Why are they always straight?
"Chad, prince Charming junior," Doug answered. "Cinderella's son," I added. Although you could probably tell from how white and blond he was. "Chad inherited the charm," Doug said looking over at me to finish the sentence. "But not a lot of there there, if you know what we mean." I finished for him. We all looked over at Chad and I honestly can't see what Evie sees in him. Maybe she's bisexual, I shouldn't assume she's straight. Get out of here with your heteronormativity, let us be gay once in a while.
"Looks like there there too me," Evie responded in a dreamy voice. I rolled my eyes, I shouldn't be jealous. We just met and I'm already drooling over her. How pathetic can I get?
"Evie," Mr. Delay called on Evie out of nowhere snapping us out of our thoughts. "Perhaps this is just a review for you. So tell me, what is the average atomic weight of silver?" He asked her. I wouldn't say asked her, I'm pretty sure he's picking on her. We were all distracted, why only pick on Evie?
"Atomic weight? Uh not very much, I mean not much. It's an atom right?" She and Chad both laughed while I shook my head. Mr. Delay signaled for her to come up to the board. De wanted to embarrass her, and while I was ready to get up and defend her, my gut told me Evie had this in the bag.
She walked over to the board, not before grabbing a mirror from her purse. Okay, well I didn't mean it literally.
"Let's see," She began by taking the chalk from his hand. "How do I find the average atomic weight of silver?" She asked out loud, she proceeded to write on the board.
"That would be 106.905, times .5200, plus 108.905, times .4800. Which, Mr. Delay, would give us, 107.9 amu." Evie finished the problem. "Amu?" Doug asked himself while I let out a small giggle. Gosh, she was cute even when she didn't try.
"I forget, always a mistake to underestimate..." He started but Evie cut him off.
"A villain? Don't make it again." She said giving him the chalk back. And just like that, I'm attracted to her even more.
she walked over to her seat, not before Chad handed her a piece of paper, and sat down grinning. She looked at the paper and looked at Chad, nodding and smiling.
If Chad actually gets with her I will cry.
The rest of the class was Evie and Chad staring at one another but something felt off. Why is Chad suddenly interested in Evie? He's been pinning after Audrey for as long as I can remember, and suddenly he wants Evie? It just doesn't make sense I tell ya.
I really want to get to know Evie, not cause I kinda like her but because she seems like a sweet girl. And I want to be her friend, along with the other vk's too. Jay and Carlos seem like goofballs, and Mal is quiet but I'm sure she's just as nice as Evie.
After class, Doug and I waited for Evie outside the class to head off to study hall. Once Evie came outside she had Chad next to her. Yay...
"I'll catch up with you guys later." Evie smiled at us as Chad pulled her away. Ouch, never fall for the straight ones I guess.
Doug and I walked over to the field and sat on the bleachers as we took out our chemistry homework. I'd rather do my homework now than later, chemistry is hard as it has a lot of math, and math sucks.
We were working, well Doug was and I just kinda copied off of him but hey, I let him copy off of my Spanish and English homework. Not that he's not good at those subjects, he just falls behind as he's really into band and never gets a break from it. We were talking about the coronation, yay, when we heard voices from underneath the bleachers. I quickly glanced down to see Evie and Chad talking. Doug took notice of this too and began to pack up his stuff.
"Let's go, it's not nice to eavesdrop." He said getting up to leave but I made him sit down again. "No, stay, what if he like hurts her?" I said packing up my bag in case I needed to confront Chad. "Hurts her?" Doug asked, but I shushed him.
"Isn't it weird that after pinning after Audrey for so long behind my brothers back, aka his best friend, he suddenly wants Evie? He and Audrey weren't afraid to show their disapproval about bringing the vk's over. He's up to something," I whispered and Doug just rolled his eyes, but still stayed with me.
"Is everyone at home as pretty as you?" Chad asked, I mean that's a valid question. Evie giggles at this, adorable. "I like to think I'm the fairest of them all," She says blushing.
"How many rooms are in your castle?" She asked, well that came out of nowhere. So she likes castles? Maybe I could bring her over one day, to hang out and show her around obviously.
"Too many to count." Chad sounds like such a fucking Chad, can't believe Cinderella raised a son like that. Then I saw Evie lean in for a kiss, oh no.
Chad saw this and looked away. So he doesn't like Evie? I mean who would reject a kiss from her? I mean, whatever.
"So you really nailed that chemistry problem today. You're gonna have all the nerds in love with you." I looked at Doug, "I told you so." I whispered. He was up to something.
"I'm not that smart," She laughed. Evie sweetie don't talk say such thing. "No really, I'm not. But I'm really good at sewing and cooking and cleaning. You know, like your mother, Cinderella." Oh no Evie, there's more to a girl than those things. You're much more than just some housewife, not that being a housewife is bad.
"See this?" She asked taking out her mirror. What was she going to do? "If I ask it where something is, it tells me," So she's giving away what helped her today in class? Oh no, he's going to use this against her somehow, guys are such assholes.
"Are you kidding me?" Chad grabbed it from her. "No." Evie smiled, she really likes him huh? "Where's my cellphone?" He asked it, it's like he lacks brain cells.
"It won't work for you, silly." Evie laughed, great because in the wrong hands shit will go to, well shit. "Oh no biggie, my dad will just get me a new one." Chad handed Evie her mirror back. "Prince Charming, Cinderella, Fairy Godmother." I bet his dad was the one that made Chad this way, Cinderella wouldn't raise a spoiled kid that resembled her stepsister.
"Hey, I heard the wand is in some boring museum. Do they always leave it there?" She asked him. That was random... Wait, did he just lean in for a kiss? I'm going to barf.
"I'd really like to talk, but... I'm swamped," He turned and leaned dramatically against the bleachers causing Doug and I both to roll our eyes.
"Unless..."
"Unless?" Evie asked, her hopes were up, weren't they?
"If you could knock all my homework out along with yours, then maybe we could get together sometime and hang." I fucking knew it! He didn't like Evie, he just wants to use her to get his homework done. That piece of shit.
"Okay." Evie agreed as Chad gave her his bag. Oh, Evie no. "Thanks babe." And with that, he left.
I quickly got down before Doug could stop me.
"We couldn't help but overhear-" I said as Doug got down with me. "Are you stalking me?" Evie asked as I guess we scared her.
"No, we were here first," I said like a child as I got down to Evie's level through the bleachers with Doug close behind me. "I too, have a fascination with Fairy Godmothers wand," Doug spoke as he stood next to me. "Which is another reason why I look forward to the coronation," Doug added. I rolled my eyes and leaned against the bleachers with my arms crossed. Maybe that was an overreaction to hearing the word 'coronation'.
"Perhaps we could sit next to each other and discuss its attributes." Doug looked at Evie in a way that didn't sit right with me. Oh no, don't tell me he likes her too.
"Are you saying they use it at the coronation?" She asked. "Yeah, they do," I said stepping in. I'm sorry Doug, you're a great friend but I guess jealousy took over. It seems like I have a lot of that.
"Could you tell me more?" Evie asked looking over at me. I couldn't help but blush, I mean who wouldn't when she's looking at you like that.
"Of course," I said maybe too cheerfully. "Great! Bye Doug." She grabbed my wrist and dragged me with her. I turned to look back at Doug and mouthed a 'sorry' as I waved goodbye. I couldn't help but feel my heart pounding as she held my wrist. God, I need to get a hold of myself.
"So they use the wand at coronation? To do what?" Evie asked as we walked back to the school building. "Well basically, Fairy Godmother does that thing like when someone gets knighted. Asks if Ben's ready to be king. He says 'I do' and she grants him like magic as king. I don't know a lot since when they do practice the ceremony it's basically just Ben, Fairy Godmother, and my parents. They say I just have to stand there and look pretty." I explained although it was a shit explanation.
"Woah, but you're already so pretty. I'm sure Ben sees you as an important part of the coronation." Evie's words were making me blush even more. She thinks I'm pretty? "Thanks.." I say looking away to hide my face.
"I'll catch you later for dinner then. Bye, princess!" Evie said letting go of me, sad. Always a princess, never a queen.
I watched Evie walk away and I couldn't help but feel sad. I know I just met her but I can already see myself falling for her. Geez, it sucks never being able to get the girl.
