Chapter 7/ Grrr

The twins followed Ivee, AJ, and Davy through the empty streets to the tallest tower in the center.

"We're here!" Ivee said to theothers as they stood right in the center of a tall building." "Itlooks a bit like the Eiffel Tower." Davy said. No one understoodhim though and they just looked around at each other. The five ofthem pulled out their pick axes. They dug into the ground andrevealed a staircase that spiraled into the depths of the darkness.

"Woah!" Ivee shouted down the stairs. An echo bounced back into her ears. "I was NOT expectingthat." All five of them started walking down the stairs in a tightgroup, ready for whatever would pop out of the darkness. Ivee pulledout a torch and a circle of light surrounded them, casting theirshadows on the walls and down the stairs before them.

"So, Davy, wat'cha in for?" AJasked, nothing around them making her think of it. That was probablythe randomest question someone could have asked then. And apparentlyDavy jumped back at the question.

"What?!" Davy turned to look at AJ with his dark red eyes.

"Oh, come on! I know you are one ofthose temporary eternity members. So? How did you come to live in theworld of Minecraft? And how long do you think you will be staying?"It looked like it would be hard to ignore AJ's question.

"Some beams fell on me during anearthquake." Davy shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal. "I'm justglad no one else got hurt."

"What's an earthquake?" AJ had toask.

"It's when the ground shakes and lotsof things fall over." Davy answered, feeling smart. "Just be glad Minecraft doesn't have natural disasters like we do back home."

"Yeah." AJ said with a happy sigh."I know a lot about the eternity members and stuff because a coupleof them made and raised my mom and uncle. However, I know nothingabout the world you guys like to call, 'The Physical World.' I stilldon't know what that word even means." AJ said all that with a coolsmile. The kind that would make someone jealous just by seeing how'chill' her face looked.

The five continued down the stairs insilence. The spiral stairs seemed to go on forever. Finally, thestairs ended on a bedrock floor. They looked around. A huge room atbedrock level was revealed by torch light. The torches mounted on thewall looked as if they had been burning since the beginning of time.

"Woah!" both twins said in awe atthe same time. Stone statues which were just a little bigger than thekids, lined all four walls. Each was standing on it's own platform. Some were in worrier stances, looking as if they were about to slay100 zombies. Others looked as if they had just finished. Some of theothers held books or bows. Many of them just stood there lookingawesome. In the very center of the room was a huge heart made ofgold. Around it was grass and bushes. A couple tiny ponds with lilypads in them circled around the golden heart as well. At the base ofevery statue there was a sign with a name on it. Some also had whatthey were none for written on them. Ivee read the sign that was onthe platform right under the golden heart.

"Have no fear both the tall and the small, for those with hearts of gold will protect you all."

"I wonder what that means." Pepper questioned aloud, not expecting an answer.

Mint then said, "I think this placeis a graveyard for all the legends of the past, all those who helpedin some way. Maybe that's what they meant by 'hearts of gold.' Thosewords are usually used to describe someone nice, kind, and helpful.Let's read the signs under the statues and see if I'm correct."

"But these people are dead; how can they protect anything?" Pepper decided to ask Mint.

"I don't know! This is probably just an example for those in the future, maybe. It most likely means that there will always be people with 'hearts of gold,' who will protect us and stuff." Mint suggested a theory.

"Good rebuttal, guys. Now let's find out what made these people so famous!" Davy said, a little excited for the first time. "Listen to this!" Davy shouted to the others. "This sign says, 'Nevivi Antorilo.' that's an interesting name. Says she built a tower entirely out of dirt; one that rose above the clouds. It was the first sky scraper in Duriel, the first of many - but just with better resources.. Hmm, interesting. Apparently you can have a statue made in honor of you just because you were the first person to make something. I guess all I would need to do then would be to make a flying car! I wonder if everyone else here is the same." Davy joked with a sarcastic smile. Ivee rolled her eyes and the other three just shrugged.

Davy then read another sign: "Selyna Myer, the first person to document her journeys in a journal. Her diaries were both entertaining and educational. She greatly influenced the culture of Duriel with this new form of entertainment and sharing of knowledge.' Man, this sounds like a history book or something. Did anyone here actually do anything interesting?"

"Oh come on, Davy." Mint interjected. "There's probably much more to these people than their little description. These things were probably revolutionary back then."

"All this revolutionary talking and history stuff reminds me of the Industrial Revolution somehow." Davy said with a lite groan as he walked toward one of the small ponds and pulled out his fishing rod. In her own little world, Ivee quoted to herself, almost whispering,

"Work while you work, play while you play, this is the way to be happy each day.. A job that you do, do with all your might. A job half done is never done right."

"What was that?" Pepper asked Ivee, who hadn't yet realized she had said that out loud. Ivee turned to Pepper quickly, almost blushing in embarasment once she realized she had said that out loud.

"O- oh, that?! That was just a quote I used to hear Aunt Bel- your mom say... She told me she had memorized a few poems when she was younger and enjoyed quoting them." Ivee explained bashfully. Then she walked over to the statue at the far end of the room. The statue stood stood on a larger pedestal than the others. The statue of a man standing tall; and on his head, was a crown, which was hard to see from far away since it too was stone like the statue itself. Both the statues hands together held a broad sword which stuck into the pedestal. All five of the teens stood around the largest statue in awe. They could all tell this was a king, maybe even the first.

"I wonder who this is." AJ pondered aloud, looking to Ivee for answers.

"Why would I know?! I haven't read everything ya'know." Ivee swung her honestly confused look back at AJ.

"The sign says," read Mint, "King Erik: the first king of Duriel, a true friend."

"What does that mean?" Pepper asked her twin.

"I don't know! Why don't you try time travel and figure it out for yourself?!" Mint snapped back. Both glared at one another, neither quite sure why. They stopped as Ivee walked between them and up to the button that was almost invisible along the tall stone pedestal. Unexpectedly, the floor opened up in front of them and even more bedrock was revealed down the stairs. Hesitantly, the five slowly walked deeper into the darkness. The torch Ivee was holding began glowing a dark red, and it only grew darker the deeper they descended into the bedrock.

"This is getting spoopy." Davy whispered, fear keeping him from speaking too loudly. The stairs ended at a three-by-three block hallway, which was entirely bedrock. The hallway stretched forward several minutes. Finally, after a long time of nothing but silence except the sound of footsteps and breathing, a room came into view. It was surprisingly smaller than the first room; except it made up for the overall space to walk around in by having a sciling that stretched up all the way into the shadows. The room itself was a cylinder shape with a raised pyramid-type floor, which rose like a perfectly circular hill. The room was empty; not a single decoration in it. Nothing but bedrock and stone made up the walls and floor. Nothing stood out, except, for a single item hovering on the raised platform, which glowed a strong purple. It looked like a slightly modified set of flint and steel. The item slowly bobbed up and down, spinning around snail speed.

"I call it!" AJ exclaimed as she snapped out of her still trance, and began running toward the item in the center of the room. She was cut off by a red and blue blur racing past her,  each pushing the other for the same item. Both girls reached the flint and steel at the same time; and grabbed a half of it each. The two halves were held together by some invisible force, which wasn't usual for most flint and steel. Each of the twins tugged with the same might, wanting it more and more just because it had become a competition. The item's purple glow slowly surged brighter as the two halves were slowly pulled apart like an insanely strong magnate. AJ's eyes appeared to flash red with anger as she watched struggle for the flint and steel.

"Come on! Give it to me!" Mint shouted at Pepper.

"No! You, give it, to mee!" Pepper pulled back even harder. A sound no one recognized started rising in the air. It was almost an ear splitting kind of noise, one that should have made Mint and Pepper drop the item to cover their ears. Strangely enough, neither of the twins even seed to notice it as they both tugged harder. Suddenly, the invisible force keeping the two halves of the flint and steel together, snapped. A piercing explosion of painfully bright light engulfed the two girls and the items now seemingly stuck in their hands felt as hot as hot-iron. The purple light itself split in two as the explosion progressed, the purple splitting into the primary colors blue and red. Those colors splashed onto the twins themselves. The red hitting Pepper and the blue hitting Mint.

The explosion flung both girls to the two opposite walls, each falling down, unconcious before even touching the floor. The flint and steel was gone, only the glowing colors of red and blue slowly fading on the girls' skin. The flames from the torch Ivee was holding blew out during the explosion, she herself still getting up from being knocked to the floor. All of a sudden, the place was as dark as it was silent. After a few moments of dead silence, Ivee began to panic, not being able to see or hear anything.. or anyone. She quickly pulled out a new torch that lit up the cold, dark room a little.

"Davy?.." Ivee called softly for the person who had stood still beside her. There was no response, and he was nowhere to be seen. Ivee began to panic. "Davie!?" ...No response. Silence haunted the room. The young teen began to look around frantically for anyone else, desperately hoping everyone was was still there. "..AJ!!" She called out into the silence. Her voice only echoed back to her in the quiet place. "Pepper?!.. Mint!?" Not even a calming breeze could answer her. It took several circles around the room before it finally settled in. She was, truly, all alone. "Guys!! This isn't funny!" She called out, more of a plead. Inside, she hoped someone would start laughing and pull out a torch, revealing it to all be some elaborate prank... But... that never happened.

Finally, Ivee accepted that she was alone and began walking over to the exit to see if she can find them. However, when she arrived at the exit, there was no longer an exit to exit. The three by three space they had walked through to enter was blocked off by bedrock. Even though she knew it was impossible to break bedrock, she pulled out her pickaxe anyway and started hacking at the stone keeping her trapped. As she wasted time, she hoped that someone, anyone, would somehow help.
