Chapter 22: Complications of Love

Thanks for all the support enjoy reading

The day was calm, the kind of afternoon where the world outside seemed to slow, making it easier to breathe. Hairi had found herself in a quiet space, her heart heavy with questions, unsure of where her life was leading her. She had just been pulled back from the future, and though she had experienced it all-the highs, the lows, the pain of watching Sehun ignoring her-it all felt like a distant dream. And now, in this moment of calm, she was trying to piece together the chaos.

Hairi sat in the comfort of her home, in the familiar space that had always been a safe haven from the unpredictable nature of time travel. The walls were decorated with pictures of her family, her childhood memories frozen in time. Her brother, Dongwoo, was lounging on the couch, immersed in his phone, not paying attention to the world around him. Hairi needed to talk, to share everything with someone who could understand. And there was one person who had been by her side through it all-Minji.

Minji had been quiet for the past few days, sensing the distance between Hairi and Sehun, sensing that something had changed. Hairi knew it was time to tell her everything. She couldn't keep hiding it anymore. The truth, as strange and unbelievable as it was, had to come out.

Minji arrived at Hairi's house just as the evening sun cast a soft golden light through the windows. She smiled warmly as Hairi opened the door, and they exchanged a brief, tight hug before sitting down at the dining table.

"Are you okay?" Minji asked, her voice soft with concern. She could see the storm brewing in Hairi's eyes. She had always known when something was wrong, and today, it was impossible for Hairi to hide it.

"No," Hairi admitted, her voice shaky. "Minji, I need to tell you everything. I've been keeping this from you for too long I know you know I come back in time but I didn't tell you the whole story."

Minji looked at her, a silent question in her gaze. Hairi took a deep breath, her hands gripping the edge of the table. She had never felt so exposed, so vulnerable, but the time had come to speak the truth.

"I have this phone," Hairi continued, her voice growing more steady now that the words were coming out. "It pulls me back to the past. I am the version of my life where everything was different-where Sehun remembered me as a classmate and where I hadn't changed anything."

Minji stared at her for a moment, processing the words, before something in her expression softened. She didn't laugh or dismiss Hairi. Instead, she reached across the table, placing a comforting hand on her friend's.

"You're serious, aren't you?" Minji said softly, her tone filled with awe.

Before Hairi could say anything more, Dongwoo her big brother, who had been sitting nearby, suddenly perked up, having overheard their conversation. His eyes were wide with curiosity, his usual nonchalance replaced with an unmistakable excitement.

"Wait, what?" he interrupted, leaning forward. "You're telling me that you've been time travelling? Like, *actual* time traveling? This isn't some joke?"

Hairi turned to her brother, her mouth opening and closing as she tried to process the fact that he had been listening. "Dongwoo, what are you-"

"Hairi," he cut her off, his tone unusually serious. "This is crazy! I've always thought time travel was possible, but I never thought I'd hear my sister went through it." He grinned widely, clearly thrilled by the idea. "Tell me everything! How does it work? Do you get to see the future? Can you change things?"

Hairi exchanged a glance with Minji, her expression a mix of surprise and amusement. She had always known Dongwoo had a fascination with the concept of time travel, but she never expected him to take it so seriously. There was no backing out now. It seemed that once again, her life was unfolding in ways she hadn't expected.

"Okay, fine," Hairi said, a resigned laugh escaping her lips. "I'll tell you. But you have to promise not to freak out, okay?"

Dongwoo nodded eagerly, hanging on every word as Hairi began to recount the strange, unpredictable nature of her time travels-the phone that pulled her back, the encounters with Sehun, the moments she tried to fix, and the painful reality that every time she jumped, something in the present shifted. It felt almost unreal, but her brother listened attentively, nodding at certain points like he was absorbing every detail.

"I've tried to change things, but sometimes it feels like I'm only making it worse," Hairi admitted, her voice softening. "I don't know what I'm supposed to do anymore. I've been trying to fix my relationship with Sehun, but the more I try, the more complicated it gets."

Dongwoo's expression grew serious, his playful demeanor fading as he considered what Hairi had said. "That's a lot to handle, Hairi. But if anyone can figure this out, it's you. And... maybe I can help. I know a few things about time theory. I've read about it-different ideas on how it works. I might be able to make sense of it."

Hairi smiled faintly, grateful for his support. "Thanks, Dongwoo. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Minji's gaze softened as she watched the exchange between Hairi and her brother. She could see how much they cared for each other, how their bond, despite being tested, was still unshakable. "You're not alone in this, Hairi," she said gently. "We'll figure this out together."

---

Later that evening, after Dongwoo had retreated to his room, Hairi decided to take a walk to clear her head. The conversation with Minji and her brother had opened up so many new possibilities, but it also left her with more questions. The uncertainty of her situation, the feeling of being torn between two timelines, was overwhelming.

As she walked through the streets, her mind inevitably wandered back to Sehun. She missed him in ways she hadn't expected. Despite everything-the confusion, the distance between them, and the time they had spent apart-she couldn't deny the pull she felt toward him. Every part of her wanted to reach out, to close the gap that had formed between them, but she couldn't bring herself to make the first move. Not when things were still so uncertain.

She turned a corner, and there he was. Sehun stood outside the café, his hands shoved in his pockets, his expression unreadable. He didn't notice her at first, lost in his thoughts as he stared at the ground. Hairi stood there for a moment, unsure whether to approach him. But then, he looked up, his eyes locking with hers.

For a moment, neither of them said anything. The air between them was thick with unspoken words, with all the things they had yet to confront. But then, as if by some unspoken agreement, they both stepped forward at the same time, their paths converging.

"Sehun..." Hairi began, her voice tentative.

He looked at her, his gaze intense but distant. "Hairi, I-" He trailed off, his voice suddenly colder than she remembered. He seemed hesitant, unsure, as if the weight of everything between them had suddenly become too much to bear.

Then she had a glimpse of what happened

Flashback when her first time jumped back

Sehun's voice broke through her thoughts. "Hairi," he whispered her name as though it was the most delicate thing he had ever said. His eyes were filled with an intensity she couldn't place. He was confused. They had spent so many moments together in the past few days , sharing smiles, and laughter, but this felt different. His voice carried a sense of finality like he knew something she didn't.

Before she could respond, the world around her began to blur. The air thickened as if the very fabric of reality was stretching, distorting. Hairi's body shuddered in response, and a sharp, painful tug gripped her chest as though she were being pulled in two directions at once.

She gasped, her hands reaching for Sehun instinctively, desperate to hold onto him, to this moment. "Sehun"

But the world around her began to vanish. The warmth of his hands, the softness of his touch, the steady rhythm of his breath. they all disappeared in an instant, leaving only the cold, unyielding void.

And then it hit her.

She was back. Back to her timeline.

Meanwhile, Sehun was confused as he went back to find Hairi was not there anymore. He tried to call her but she did not answer.

The next day, he confronted her about yesterday.

" Haiti" as he grabbed her hands. Her face was confused.

" Where did you do yesterday?" he asked but Hairi's face was so shy and looked down don't know how to respond to him.

" S-Sehun... what are you talking about..." she said with a trembling voice and he grabbed her hand again.

" Umm... sorry" he releases her hand." Hairi but you and me were in the cafe together yesterday and you just went"

Her face was puzzled like she was confused like she thought Sehun was crazy.

" Sehun I think you have the wrong girl" She walked away and Sehun tried to stop her but someone was in his way and it was JIwon.

" Sehun I think you need to go"

Sehun was so confused about what happened yesterday and how Hairi playing like she did not remember him like she is a completely different person, the person he did not know.

After that, The 18-year-old Hairi spend time with JIwon and distanced herself from Sehun.

End of Flashback

Hairi noticed the change in him-the shift in his demeanour. The warmth that had once been there now felt like a distant memory. "What's wrong?" she asked quietly, sensing the distance growing between them.

Sehun's lips pressed into a thin line. "I don't know what to say anymore," he admitted, his voice tight. "You... You don't remember me, do you?" His eyes were filled with confusion, but underneath, there was an undeniable pain.

Hairi's breath caught in her throat. The words stung more than she anticipated. She was in confusion.

"I... I do," she said softly, reaching out, but he took a step back. He was cold. Detached. His eyes avoided hers as he turned away, hands tightening in his pockets.

"Do you? Or are you just pretending for my sake?" Sehun's voice was hard now, guarded. "It's hard for me to believe you when the person I knew is gone. The person I thought I could trust doesn't remember any of this."

Hairi stood frozen, her heart breaking at the hurt in his voice. "I'm not pretending, Sehun. I swear to you, I remember. I remember everything." But she could see it in his eyes-the scepticism, the doubt. The past version of her, the one is the one who does not remember her, not her but was still haunting their relationship. It was like autopilot as Hairi went back to the future. She remembered a glimpse of the memories came back as if she was reliving what Sehun was talking about, she wasn't there it was her 18-year-old self who distanced herself from him.

"It's too complicated, Hairi," Sehun said, his voice cold, his gaze still averted. "I don't know how we're supposed to move forward when everything feels like it's falling apart."

The words struck her deeply, but she couldn't find the strength to argue. The more she tried to fix things, the more they seemed to fall apart. And for the first time, Hairi wondered if maybe the hardest part wasn't the time travel or the memories, but the realization that some things were just too broken to fix.
