Hello everyone here's the second Chapter feel free to comment down below and vote it means a lot.
-------
Hairi's caught of guard as Sehun stepped into the little café, looking both familiar and different in the yellow glow of the dim lights. He was older now, no longer the introvert boy she had known in high school, but a tall, striking man whose face carried the shadows of places he had seen before, things he'd done. His eyes, those were the same. Deep, intense, like he could see through the surface of everything and straight into the heart of everything.
She quickly looked down not wanting to have eye contact with him, trying to calm the flutter in her chest. Her fingers wrapped tightly around her cup of coffee, hoping her hands wouldn't shake. After years, years of silence and the longing of her high school crush never that had never forgotten, here he was standing just Infront of me, as if time had paused or rewind, bringing the past into the present.
For a second, she felt 18 again, sitting in the same café, secretly hoping he'd notice her. But now, she was older. Wiser, or so she thinks. She could handle this. This moment right here.
Couldn't she? Maybe not.
"Hairi?"
His voice was warm, surprised and shocked. She dared a gaze up and forced herself to give a slight smile. "Sehun. I didn't know you were back from abroad."
"Just got back to South Korea a few days ago." He shifted slightly, his stare steady on her, as though he, too, was imagining in the memory of her. He glanced at her like she was someone he had hoping to find for all these years, yet wasn't sure if he had the cauraged to approach. "Mind if I join?"
"Sure." She gestured to the chair across from her, her voice calm, though her heart was racing. She felt as though she was in some dream.
He sat down across from her, setting his rain-soaked jacket on the back of his chair. She sees the slight curve of his lips as he looked around the café. "Feels like nothing's changed here...in this cafe huh. Like time stopped."
Hairi nodded, takes a sip of her coffee. "Sometimes I think places like this just hold onto the memories of the past. Maybe they don't change because they're waiting for us to remember them."
Sehun gives a slight laugh, a low, familiar sound that makes her heart flutter just a little bit. "So, Hairi do you come here often? Or was it fate?"
"Fate? Is this one of your pick up lines" She smiled, shaking her head. "No I just... needed a place to think that's all."
The silence filled the air between them, a silence full of questions left unspoken. She felt herself slipping back, remembering the way they used to sit in a companionable quiet, feeling like they could understand each other without saying anything. Now, she only wonders what he was thinking right now.
"So," he said softly, breaking the silence. "How have you been Hairi?"
It was a simple question, but it made her nervous. How had she been? She almost laughed at the simpleness of it. Should she tell him the truth that her fiancé Jiwoon had just shattered her heart, that her life had cheated on her? Or should she lie that everything was ok?
"Good," she said, her voice too low and trying to give a slight smile. " I'm... a fashion editor now in one of the famous companies in South Korea now." The words felt weird while coming out of my mouth like they belonged to someone else entirely. "What about you Sehun?"
"Im a Photographer now ... took photos of famous celebrities," he said, his tone carrying a touch of pride, his eyes lighting up a little bit. "I work for a few magazines now, a freelancer you might say. It's had been a chaotic few years. Lots of travelling, lots of new faces, new places..." His stares softened as he gazed at her. "But somehow or something kept me wanting me to go back here."
Hairi felt something warm tugging at her heart. She remembered his old camera he always carried away when he wasn't looking, the way he used to take shots of people in their quietest moments. She had never been one of those picture he took though, but she had hoped to be.
"That great Sehun I am happy for you," she replied, her voice barely a whisper. "I'm... glad for you, Really...Sehun."
He looked at her eyes, his eyes narrowing slightly as if searching for something in her face. "Hairi? Are you... happy?....are you ok"
The question caught her off guard like she was not expected that from him. She lied, put on a bright smile and nodded, but something in his gaze, something that seemed to see right through her, made her feel like honesty was her only option right now. She lowered her gaze a little bit, her fingers tracing the rim of her coffee cup.
"I thought I was happy....but....," she admitted softly. "Until now....I am not."
A slight worry flickered flashed in his eyes, but he didn't ask her for more. Instead, he just nodded at her, as if understanding that sometimes life had its ups and downs. That simple gesture felt like a sweetness to her heart, as if he was offering her understanding without needing every detail.
"so..What about you?" she asked, attempting to deflect the situation . "Any... is there anyone someone in your life?" She tried to make her tone light, playful, but there was a bit shallow and bitter.
He smiled , a bittersweet expression she hadn't expected. "Not really. My Life's been busy? It's hard to stay still long enough to really let someone in especially when you have a job like mine." His gaze hover to the rain-streaked window. "But at times, I wonder if I should have looked longer. If I missed something... or someone."
Her heart rose, and she felt that old, not said longing rise in her chest again, the same feeling or emotions she had for him. For Sehun.
"So," she said, piercing a laugh to break the tension between Sehunand Hairi, "here we are. Two almost strangers, just catching up in an old memorable café."
He giggled a soft sound that made her feel like they were slipping back in time into their old memories. "I guess some things never change huh, right Hairi?"
"Y-yeah," she murmured, trying to steady her breathing a bit. "Maybe we're just meant to meet again and again in this same place, pretending it's casual ...maybe it's fate."
It was as if he was listening to her from a level where no other person indeed had. Breaking his gaze, he was still sending inexplicable electricity through the air between them, an electric current of memories, regrets, and possibilities not admitted. She desperately wanted to speak something, to ask the questions she had always felt shy about asking those long ago, but the words refused to come.
"Do you ever wonder about those little things we did not say back then?" he interrupted the silence.
The question crashed into her, leaving her breathless. It seemed so unbelievable that he should say it. She had thought many times during the intervening years what would be said if she had had the courage to tell him how she felt. Now he had asked that which she had not had the nerve to ask him all those years before.
"All the time," she whispered as her heart began to race. She could feel the ice melting around her heart, as one piece after another crumbled away.
He nodded and smiled a short, compassionate smile. "Maybe... maybe it's not too late for those words to be said."
She searched his face, trying to ascertain the meaning behind those words, trying to find out if he felt the same yearning she did. But at the very moment her voice opened up to respond, the sound of her mobile device vibrating broke the spell. She blinked and reality crashed around her. With trembling fingers, she picked up the phone.
It was another message from Jiwon.
We really need to talk, Hairi. .
Her stomach plummeted, the remains of the brief, beautiful moment with Sehun shattering like glass into parts. She could not escape it. Life as she knew it was being destroyed, the love she had worked so hard to create was back to squares one and two. In this moment, she was sitting across from the man she had always wanted to know, at exactly the moment her present started to fall apart around her.
Sehun seemed to catch her sudden change; his expression softened as he looked at her. "Are you alright?"
The sincerity in his voice cut deeply deep into her heart's desire. She didn't know what to say, didn't know how to bridge the distance between who they were and who they had become. Yet she nodded, her voice almost a whisper. "Thank you, Sehun."
After that, it was the silence that took over them-a silence in which both of them could stay wrapped in their thoughts, memories, and regrets. Yet, during the silence, she felt their bond recovering its strength, as though the distance and the time would only strengthen it away.
As the rain continued to pour outside, she found herself wishing that somehow, in some impossible way, she could go back and do it all differently. That was the one option that offered her the possibility of rewriting the story she and he hardly had finished writing.
She could look into Sehun's eyes without feeling small as she dared to wonder... maybe this time, she wouldn't let fear hold her back.
