Chapter 11: The message

Thanks again Here is an update for you enjoy.

Hairi woke up the next day feeling an unusual sense of clarity. The message from the night before echoed in her mind, its cryptic warning playing over and over like a mantra. She was determined not to let it take over her thoughts-she had made her choices, and the only way forward was to keep moving ahead. Still, a subtle unease lingered beneath her determination, reminding her that the consequences of her actions might soon come back to her.

---

At school, the atmosphere felt lighter than usual. Hairi noticed how much her classmates seemed to have warmed up to her. It wasn't that they had ignored her before, but now they actively sought her out-asking for her opinion on group assignments, inviting her to sit with them at lunch, and even cracking jokes they thought she'd appreciate.

Still, her attention was drawn to Sehun. They had fallen into an easy rhythm, a natural balance of shared silences and effortless conversation. She found herself glancing his way during class, catching glimpses of his soft smiles and the way his fingers absently tapped the edge of his desk in time with some unseen beat.

During lunch, Sehun caught her eye and gestured for her to join him. She hesitated for a moment, her heart racing, before walking over.

"You seem distracted today," he noted as she took a seat.

"Do I?" she replied, trying to sound nonchalant.

He nodded. "It's not a bad thing. Just different."

Hairi bit her lip, weighing whether to share the message with him. She had never been one to easily open up, but something about Sehun made her feel secure, as if she could tell him anything without worrying about being judged.

Before she could make up her mind, Kai dropped down next to them, his tray clattering against the table. "What's up, lovebirds?" he teased, grinning widely.

Hairi's cheeks flushed. "We're not-"

Why did I say that? I want us to be a thing but maybe I was not ready yet.

"Sure, sure," Kai interrupted, winking at Sehun. "Keep telling yourself that."

Sehun rolled his eyes but didn't deny it, which only made Hairi's heart race faster than bit already was. She tried to focus on her lunch, ignoring the playful nudges and winks from Kai, but the tension between her and Sehun was impossible to ignore.

I just need to be calm.

Sehun's voice cut through the silence, his eyes never once rising. "Don't even think about it."

Hairi was frozen, her fingers merely an inch from it. "How did you-"

Sehun finally looked up, a smug smirk twisting on his lips. "I know you too well, Hairi."

She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "You had the last cookie last time."

Sehun leaned forward, bracing his elbows against the table. "And? That was two days ago. Don't hold grudges.

Hairi raised an eyebrow. "This isn't a grudge, it's justice."

Before she could make another move, Sehun snatched the cookie and held it up triumphantly. "Justice is mine, then."

Hairi gasped. "You thief!"

Taking a deliberate, slow bite, Sehun closed his eyes dramatically. "Mmm. So good. Just the right amount of chocolate."

Hairi leaned forward, her voice low and threatening. "Sehun, give me that cookie.

He was holding it just out of reach, grinning. "You want it? Come and get it."

Without warning, Hairi lunged and grabbed his wrist. Sehun tried to pull back, but she was quicker, twisting his hand to get the cookie closer to her face.

"I swear, Hairi-don't-"

But it was too late. She took a big bite of the remaining half of the cookie and sat back triumphantly, chewing with an exaggerated smile.

Sehun stared at her, agape. "Did you just.?"

"Losers weepers," she said, brushing crumbs off her fingers.

Sehun blinked, then burst out laughing. "You're unbelievable."

Hairi grinned. "And yet, here you are, still sitting with me."

Sehun shook his head, leaning back in his chair. "You're lucky I find you entertaining."

Hairi mimicked his posture, smirking. "And you're lucky I didn't take the whole thing."

" Just get married already " Kai said while eating his food and Sehun just shoved some more food to his mouth Kai's month.

---

That evening, Hairi sat at her desk, gazing at her reflection in the dark screen of her laptop. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, each one more tangled than the last. The changes she'd noticed in her life-the closeness with her family, the renewed connection with Sehun, the growing warmth from her classmates-were all things she cherished. Yet, they also brought a sense of foreboding, as if she were walking a tightrope without seeing the other side.

Her phone buzzed, snapping her out of her reverie. She picked it up, anticipating a message from Sehun or one of her friends. Instead, she found another anonymous text waiting for her.

"Small choices lead to big changes. Are you ready for the consequences?"

Hairi's grip on her phone tightened. The words felt heavier this time, as if they carried a weight she couldn't fully grasp. She glanced around her room, half-expecting someone to step out from the shadows, but she was alone.

Taking a deep breath, she typed out a response. Who are you? What do you want from me?

The reply came almost instantly. "I want nothing. But the question is, what do you want?"

Hairi stared at the message, her mind racing. What did she want? To be happy? To mend the mistakes of the past? To forget a future free of regret? To find true love?

All the questions that she wants answers too.

Her phone buzzed again. "The path you're on is yours to choose. But remember, every step forward leaves something behind."

Hairi placed the phone down, her hands shaking. She had no idea who was behind these messages or their purpose, but she couldn't ignore the reality in their statements. Every decision she made, every action she took, would have repercussions-not only for herself, but for those around her as well.

As she settled into bed that night, Hairi made a promise to confront whatever challenges lay ahead, no matter how intimidating they might appear. She wasn't sure where this journey would take her, but she was resolved to navigate it with bravery and an open mind.

And perhaps, just perhaps, she'd uncover the answers she sought along the way.
