Ch 8

A/N: Thank you guys for 100+ views! It means a lot. Thank you for reading this story and continuing it till now. The last chapter was a little bit short compared to other chapters, so I decided to make this chapter a bit longer. Please read A/N at the end to know when the next chapter will be out. On with the chapter!

Draco was nervously pacing in his room. It couldn't happen. He couldn't believe it. He kept pacing while staring at his bathroom door which opened to a common bathroom  in which he could hear her showering.

His thoughts lingered back to today's happenings.

Flashback

He was studying in the library sitting across from Hermione. Well he wasn't actually studying as his thoughts kept wandering over to his quidditch practice. He was just turning pages while Hermione was sincerely studying. He wanted to go and practice quidditch again but Hermione insisted that he take a break from it, since his thoughts were only occupied by quidditch nowadays. He thought she may be talking about going to Hogsmeade or anything else but was surprised when she said that they should go to the library since according to her, "You need to clear your thoughts Draco. You need peace. And you could get that in a library since nobody will disturb you."

He was brought back from his thoughts when he heard Hermione squeal.

"What happened?" He asked as he looked up from his book to her.

"Oh nothing. I was just finding this particular topic from last three days but I couldn't find it in any other book. I thought I wouldn't find it in this one as well seeing it's title but look I found it." She said while smiling at him.

"Don't judge a book by it's cover Granger." He said and shook his head.

"I know. Here look at this." She said and passed the book to him and accidently pushing a book kept near the edge to the ground.

She bent under the table to pick up the book and Draco also bent at the same time. They both didn't know that the other had also bent to pick the book until their hands touched each other's and looked into each other's eyes. Draco felt a spark as he touched her hand and instantly jumped, bumping his head on the table. He bumped his head with so much force that the table turned over and fell on the ground on its side and all the books fell. The chair on which he was sitting also fell over.

Hermione just stared at him with her mouth slightly open and her eyes wide. It wasn't until he rubbed his head and muttered a few curse words thst she burst out laughing. It was a good thing that there were no other students in the library since it was a Hohsmeade weekend and Madame Pince had gone to McGongagall's office otherwise they surely would have been kicked out of the library due to disturbance made by Draco and Hermione's non stop laughing for at least 14 minutes.

It took all of Draco's patience to make her stop laughing. He finally told her that her book had torn and she immediately stopped laughing and picked up her book. Draco stared at his and then at her hand. He didn't know if she had felt it or not but he had certainly felt a spark.

Later that day

They were in their potions class, the last class of that day. Professor Slughorn was telling them something about different types of potions and were asking questions. And of course, it was Hermione who answered all of them, as usual. Most of them were paying attention, some were pretending to pay attention and others were not even bothering to stop talking even when Slughorn glared at them. But Draco was an exception. He wasn't talking, he wasn't pretending and he certainly wasn't paying any attention. He was just staring into space while stirring the potion his cauldron. He was ignoring anyone who tried to talk to him until something that Hermione said caught his attention.

"..........and this is Amortentia. The most powerful love potion in the world. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam rises from the potion in spirals. Amortentia smells different to each person, according to what attracts them. For example, I can smell freshly mown grass, new parchment, spearmint toothpaste and um....... green- coffee beans." She said and went back to her place.

"Excellent Miss Granger. 10 points to Gryffindor. Now I want everyone to come here and smell Amortentia. Then I want and essay from  all of you consisting of what is Amortentia and what do you smell in it. I want it after three days. Everybody, form a line and come." Slughorn said and stepped aside to let everyone smell the potion.

"What on earth is green coffee beans 'Mione?" Draco heard Harry whisper to Hermione.

"Not green. Just coffee beans. I said green by mistake." Hermione whispered back.

"Okay. Oh, it's my turn." Harry said and walked to the potion.

After a few students, it was Draco's turn.

He walked up to the front and inhaled the scent of Amortentia. He recognized the smells as old leather, mint toothpaste and a vanilla and orange shampoo. He decided that he smelled leather because of his habit of reading, he had no explanation why he smelled mint toothpaste. He thought that he had smelled vanilla and orange scent before but he couldn't really recall where. He shrugged and decided to figure it out later.

He went back to his desk and started writing the essay just when the bell rang. I will complete it in the common room, he thought and packed his things. He swung his bag over his shoulder and walked out of the class.

Later in the common room

He went to the common room to find it empty. He dropped his bag on the couch and went to the bathroom. No sooner had he entered the bathroom than a sweet scent engulfed him.

Vanilla and oranges, he recognized it. He walked over to the sink and saw some bottles of shampoo, conditioner etc. He picked up the bottle of shampoo and saw vanilla and oranges written on the front.

He heard noises from the common room and went back there.

"Hey Granger, is it yours?" He asked holding the bottle.

"Oh hey Malfoy. Yes this bottle of shampoo is mine. Why do you ask?" Hermione asked and sat on the couch.

"Oh uh- nothing. I just saw it near the sink and figured it was yours. But I just thought of asking you about it." He said and picked up his bag and walked to his room, keeping the shampoo back in the bathroom in the process.

Flashback ends

This couldn't happen. He couldn't like her. Maybe there was some sort of mistake. But then again, it was Amortentia. And it's never wrong, as much as he knew. But, he thought as he looked at the bathroom door again, anyone else could also use vanilla and oranges' shampoo. Yes, that's what it was. He was not attracted to her. It was some other girl's scent, he thought and sat on his desk and started writing his essay.

Little did he know that after some time in the common room, Hermione was thinking about the same thing. But unlike him, she didn't give much thoughts to that and started to write her essay. After all anyone could like green apples. It wasn't necessary him.

Unknown to them, Andrew Mayfair's thoughts were also engulfed by this thing.

He had never smelled Amortentia before but even if he had, he knew what he would smell. Freshly mown grass, mint toothpaste and strawberry. His crush's scent. Amelia Roberts. A girl he met at Hogwarts when he had come for Triwizard Tournament. She was the first one to talk and be friendly to him at Hogwarts. They talked everyday and one day he picked up the courage to ask her to go with him to the Yule Ball. That night he confessed to her that he liked her and was surprised when she said that she liked him too. That was before he saw Hermione enter the ball. He stared at her all night that day but he also felt guilty that he wasn't giving Amelia much attention. He heard from her that Hermione was the top student of her class. And that she was a fun person to interact with. When he heard that Viktor Krum had started dating Hermione, he thought that he may get a chance to talk to her. But he never got one, since he never had the courage to approach her. After that he continued to date Amelia but he would be lying if he said he never thought about Hermione. He stopped thinking about her after some months of returning back to Durmstrang. He would have never stopped thinking about her if that incident hadn't happened. And that incident........no one knew about it. Except him.

And no one was going to know about it.

Yet.

But that was not what he smelled in Amortentia today. The smell had changed. He smelled old leather, mint toothpaste and something else but he couldn't recognize it. He figured that maybe he was attracted towards any other girl. Maybe that girl was........

-------

A few days later, it was the first game of the Quidditch season this year. And it so happened to be the biggest game and biggest rivalry between the houses and students, according to everyone. It was Gryffindor vs Slytherin, as known as 'the match and rivalry you cannot afford to miss' by everyone.

McGonagall was not getting a suitable commentator for the match. She asked Luna but she said, "Quidditch is not really my thing. Besides, the last time I did commentary, I was hardly able to keep check of the scores. Though I admit it people liked my 'funny' commentary."

She wanted a person who could not only do commentary properly but could also make spectators laugh so as to keep them interested.

Then Draco and many other Gryffindors suggested to ask Lee Jordan, the famous ex-quidditch commentator of Hogwarts. She immediately approached him and he agreed.

Draco was nervously sitting in the common room. He and Hermione were eating breakfast in their common room as he said he didn't want to go down and Hermione didn't want to leave him alone. Theo and Blaise came with breakfast a few moments ago and went to  cheer up the other quidditch players of their team after cheering up Draco.

"What if I mess up?" He asked as he fiddled his fingers.

"You won't mess up Draco. You have practised a lot." She said as she placed her hand on his knee.

"But-but what if I don't see the snitch first? What if Potter catches the snitch before me?"

"Draco, everything will be fine."

"I don't want to lose this time Granger. It's my last chance to win a Quidditch Cup for Slytherin as this is our last year."

"And you will win."

"You're supporting me instead of Potter?"

"I am not supporting you instead of him. I am supporting the person who deserves to win."

"Thanks Granger. It really means a lot."

"You're welcome Draco. Now come on eat something. Otherwise I will tie you with ropes and force you to eat."

"As if." He said with a laugh and started eating his breakfast.

--------

"And here are the Gryffindors!" yelled Lee Jordan, who was acting as commentator this time.

"Potter, Thomas, Smith, Weasley, Finnigan, Patil, Longbottom. Many were shocked when Longbottom tried for the Quidditch team but mind you, he's become a great Beater. And before this match, Ronald Weasley, who was specially called for this match, slipped on the stairs and broke his hand. He's not available for this match and is replaced by Peter Smith."

"And here comes the Slytherin team, led by Captain Malfoy. He's made some changes in the team and seems to be going for skill rather than size unlike the previous captain Flint."

"Captains, shake hands!" said Madam Hooch.

Draco and Harry approached each other and grasped each other's hand very tightly; but Draco smiled at Harry and he smiled back. They wished good luck to each other and went back.

"Mount your brooms!" said Madam Hooch. "Three... two... one..."

The sound of her whistle was lost in the roar from the crowd as fourteen brooms rose into the air.

Draco felt his hair fly back off his forehead; his nerves left him in the thrill of the flight; he glanced around, saw Harry at the other end and sped off in the search of the Snitch.

"And it's Gryffindor in possession,  Ginny Weasley of Gryffindor with the Quaffle, heading straight for the Slytherin goal posts, looking good,  Ginny Argh, no — Quaffle intercepted by Marvery, Marveryof Slytherin tearing up the field — WHAM! — nice Bludger work there by Neville Longbottom, Marvery drops the Quaffle, it's caught by —  Thomas, Gryffindor back in possession-WHAM- Bludger work by Cavery of Slytherin and Zabini with the Quaffle-heading straight towards Gryffindor goal posts, Smith save it!-no- Smith fails to save it-Zabini scores- TEN-ZERO TO SLYTHERIN!"

Harry couldn't believe it. Smith, keeper of his team, went smashing into Zabini, nearly knocking him off of his broom.

He shot Harry an apologetic look and went back towards the Gryffindor goal posts.

"Penalty shot to Slytherin for an unprovoked attack on their Chaser!" shrieked Madam Hooch, zooming between them.

Madam Hooch blew her whistle and Lyra Marvery flew forward to take the penalty.

"ShE'S BEATEN THE KEEPER! TWENTY-ZERO TO SLYTHERIN!" yelled Lee.

Slytherin continued to score the points and Smith continued to fail to prevent them from scoring. Whereas Headington, the Slytherin Keeper, continued to prevent Gryffindor from scoring. Ginny, Dean and Parvati tried their best but still couldn't score. Seamus and Neville were doing their best to prevent Slytherin from scoring as was Theodore Nott and the other Beater, Burke. But Theo and Burke were succeeding and Slytherins were easily dodging Bludgers thrown by Seamus and Neville.

After some time the score was 150-0 to Slytherin.

All the time, Harry and Draco were flying around the field, searching for the Snitch.

And then Draco saw something to make his heart stand still. Harry was diving, a look of triumph on his face — there, a few feet above the grass below, was a tiny, golden glimmer — Draco urged the broom downward, but Harry was miles ahead —

"Go! Go! Go!" Draco urged his broom. He was gaining on Harry — Draco flattened himself to the broom handle as Finnigan sent a Bludger at him —he dodged it- he was at Harry's ankles — he was level —

Draco threw himself forward, took both hands off his broom. He was about to knock Harry's arm when suddenly a Bludger thrown by a Gryffindor Beater hit him on his head and he fell of his broom and fell to the ground with a large thud.

The last thing he heard before he lost consciousness was Hermione shouting his name.

--------

Draco could hear the voices whispering, but they made no sense whatsoever. He didn't have a clue where he was, or how he'd got there, or what he'd been doing before he got there. All he knew was that every inch of him was aching as though it had been beaten.

Then suddenly he heard Madam Pomfrey's voice, probably because she was shouting at someone or rather some people and he heard some people's footsteps.

Draco's eyes snapped open. Though the next second he squinted his eyes as the light was too bright. He slowly opened them again.

He was in the Hospital Wing. He felt someone's hand on his own and he turned to see it was Hermione's hand. She was looking towards Madam Pomfrey, no idea that he had gained consciousness.

He slowly moved his hand and Hermione turned to look at him.

She immediately swung her arms around his neck and buried her face in the crook of his neck. Draco hesitated at first but then he put his arms around her.

Hermione pulled away and said, "Thank God you are awake. Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

"I am fine but my body aches a lot." He said and tried to sit up but failed.

"And that is fine? You should probably rest. I will call Madam Pomfrey." She said and stood up. She was about to turn when she felt a cold hand grasp her wrist. She turned towards him.

"Wh-What about the match?" He asked as he looked at her.

"You should rest now. We will talk later." She said and went to call Madam Pomfrey from her office.

---------

"Alright, I have taken the potions, my body is not aching, Madam Pomfrey is not here and so now you are free to tell me what happened." Draco said as he sat up on his bed in the hospital wing with the help of Hermione.

"Well somebody hit a Bludger at you and it hit you on your head. I don't know if it was Seamus or Neville. You were about to catch the Snitch when you fell from your broom. It was just near the tip of your fingers." She said as she sat down on the chair next to his bed.

"Damn. I lost my house the match, right? I can never win." He said as he looked up at the ceiling.

"No Draco. You didn't lose the match. Since Harry caught the snitch, Gryffindor gained 150 points which was equal to Slytherin's score. McGongall said that in case when both teams have equal scores, the captains decide what to do next. Since you were injured and unconsciousness at that time, Harry and Blaise, who is the vice captain of your team were called to decide."

"And?"

"And they decided to call it a tie. Many people wanted them to set a target of like 60 or 70 points and the team who reached the goal first would win but then they decided for a tie."

"Good to know that we didn't lose. Bad to know that we didn't win either. But it's good that they decided for a tie. If they would have set a goal, I don't know if we would have won or not."

"Of course you would have won. Blaise and the other two chasers were playing too good. Headington was keeping too well and Smith, well, you would have won."

"Hmm Can I ask you something?"

"Yeah. Go ahead."

"Are you really happy that this match ended in a tie? Didn't you want Potter and Gryffindor to win?"

"As I said before, I wanted the person, who deserves to win, to win this match. And game is never just about winning. Sometimes, you have to lose to win." She said and smiled at him.

He smiled back and then said, "Were you supporting me Granger?" He asked as he looked at her.

"Maybe. Maybe not."

"Knew you couldn't resist my good looks Granger." He said and smirked at her making her laugh.

"I was supporting Blaise and Theo as well." She defended.

"Yeah yeah. Speaking of them, where are they?"

"Well they brought you here and insisted on letting them stay but Madam Pomfrey said that you should not be disturbed. But she allowed me to stay as I am the Head Girl."

"Oh."

"Oh God. They told me to inform them when you will wake up and I completely forgot that. Just a moment."

She whipped out her wand and cast a patronus to inform them.

"Hey, can you teach me how to cast it?" He asked as she turned back at him.

"A patronus?"

"Yeah."

"Okay, I'll help you. Mine is an otter by the way."

"Yeah. When did you learn to cast it?"

"Fifth year. I should probably call Madam Pomfrey. It's time for you to take your potions again." She said and stood up.

Just as she was about to walk away, he said, "Granger, thank you. For everything."

"Always." She smiled at him and walked away to Pomfrey's office.

A/N: That was it for this chapter. It was 3000+ words. Hope you like it. I really liked the library scene where Draco bumoed his head on the table making it and other things fall. Tell me if it made you laugh in the comments. Random question: What would be your position in Quidditch? I will update next Sunday since I am getting a lot of homework now. Vote, comment and please share. Reviews are always appreciated. Thank you!

Next chapter on 27/10/19(Sunday).

Until next time.
