A/N: Thank you so much guys for 130+ votes! It means a lot. Hope you guys liked the last chapter. Here's an important announcement: PLEASE READ THE LAST CHAPTER (Ch 27) AGAIN! YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THE FULL CHAPTER, YOU CAN READ IT FROM THE SECOND FLASHBACK'S ENDING. I JUST EDITED THE PREVIOUS CHAPTER A BIT, AND IT IS ACTUALLY A BIT LONGER NOW, AND I HAVE ADDED MORE IMPORTANT THINGS IN IT, AND CHANGED A FEW THINGS. YOU MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND THIS CHAPTER IF YOU DON'T READ THE LAST CHAPTER (AFTER THE SECOND FLASHBACK'S ENDING). IT'S UPTO YOU FOR READING IT OR NOT, BUT I RECOMMEND TO READ IT. I AM SORRY BECAUSE I DIDN'T WRITE THOSE THINGS EARLIER, BUT I HAVE BEEN BUSY THESE PAST FEW DAYS AND WHEN I STARTED WRITING THIS CHAPTER, I JUST READ THE LAST CHAPTER'S ENDING AND REALISED THAT THE ENDING WAS REALLY ABRUPT, SO I DECIDED TO CHANGE IT. WELL, IT'S YOUR CHOICE IF YOU WANT TO READ IT OR NOT. Anyways, Read the A/N at the end to find out when the next chapter will be out. Quite a long A/N, huh? Well, I will stop rambling now. On with the chapter!
"Andy give me my wand back." Hermione told Andy.
"Yeah... Just a sec. Here it is." Andy said and returned her wand.
"Okay. So we should go apparate back to Hogwarts, now. We-" Hermione started but Draco cut her off.
"Just a moment, Hermione. I want to talk to Andy about something important. Could you give us a minute please?"He asked her.
"Sure. I will just go back to the forest and pack the tent and our things." Hermione said and was just about to apparate when Andy grabbed her hand.
"No, Hermione. You can't go in there alone. It is still dangerous. We all will go together and then you can pack the things while we both talk, we will stand a few feet away." Andy said.
The other two nodded and they disapparated together.
When they arrived in the forest, they quickly looked around to check if someone was there. But fortunately, they didn't find anyone. It seems as if they managed to convince the death eaters that Andy was on there side, and that the Gryffindor Princess was dead.
"I will just pack our things." Hermione said and went away from the boys. When she was out of earshot, Draco took his wand out and cast the Muffliato Charm on her, just to make sure that she won't listen to their talk, because he knew that she wouldn't like that.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a notebook. He took a last look at it, and then handed it over to the person standing in front of him.
"Here. Take this." Draco said.
"Wha-" Andy looked at it with a confused expression, but that slowly changed as he realised what it was. "-What is my diary doing with you?" He asked him with an edge in his voice.
"No, it is not your real diary. It is just a copy of it." Draco sighed and told him the whole story behind it, and how did he know about where he was earlier today, and about the horcrux. "I really am sorry, Andy. I just, I wanted to find you and that time, your diary was the only thing that I could think would help me. I know that I shouldn't have invaded your privacy, and I should have told you about it when I found you, and I shouldn't have read any more, but-" Draco started apologising but Andy cut him off.
"Stop, stop, stop! It is okay, Draco." Andy told him. He opened the copy of his diary, and skipped to the last diary entry, which was written by him in the early hours of morning. He smiled at that and looked up at him. "If you hadn't read it, then the Professors and other people may still be thinking that I am behind those attacks."
"H-how do you know about that?" Draco asked him.
"It doesn't take a genius to guess that. McGonagall and other Professors already had a doubt on me before, and when I was apparantly 'missing' from the school, they put two and two together and thought that I was responsible for all of that." Andy replied nonchalantly.
"I really am sorry, Andy. I don't know why people do that, judging before thinking properly. I know how you maybe feeling after those people did that." Draco replied.
"And how would you know?" Andy asked him, not understanding how he knows his feelings at that time.
"I was judged too. When I returned to Hogwarts this year, I received many stares and whispers. People even pointed their wands at me at the King's Cross, and threatened to hex me if I didn't leave the platform then and there. I stayed home all summer, and only got out to go to Diagon Alley, where I met Hermione. I sat alone in a compartment on the train, because who would want to sit with a death eater?" Draco said.
"What about Blaise and Theo? Didn't they sit with you?" Andy asked him.
"I actually reached late to the Platform 9 and 3/4. So when I entered the train, most compartments were already full, and Blaise and Theo were sitting with some Hufflepuffs, don't ask me why, I am still searching an answer to that, but they were friendly with them and enjoyed it too. So when I entered their compartment, one Hufflepuff pointed his wand at me and told me to leave, otherwise they would hex me or something. Blaise and Theo stood up, and started to follow me out, but I stopped them. I didn't want them to sit with me and not enjoy just because of me. So I told them to sit there only and left the compartment, found one for myself, and sat there until McGonagall called me." Draco told him.
Without waiting for a response, he continued, "Even at my trial, people didn't stop whispering about me, or pointing their fingers at me. And when Hermione and Saint Potter spoke for me, and told everyone to clear me of all charges, people and the reporters of the Daily Prophet thought that I had used the Imperius Curse on them. Some even threw stones at the Malfoy Manor, and would throw curses and hexes at me whenever they would spot me there. It was really hard to live there, so I left the house some days before our year started. I stayed at Blaise's house, and we also invited Theo there. I really didn't want to comeback this year, knowing that people won't accept it, but my mother persuaded me. I literally thought that McGonagall had gone bonkers or was playing a prank on me when she told me in the letter that I was chosen as the Head Boy."
And again, not giving Andy a chance to speak, he added, "It was really hard. Specially when the news came about my father's last trial. But, I was really thankful to Hermione, and I would probably not admit it again, but to Saint Potter as well."
Andy smiled at him and said, "It will become better, you know. Bad days don't last forever. And, about this copy, well you can keep it."
"What? I don't want it. It is yours, and you keep it." Draco, who was taken aback by his statement, told him.
"I am not telling you to keep it forever, I am just giving it to you now. You return it to me after the battle, which I am sure is going on there now, ends. Till then, you keep it." Andy said.
"But why?" Draco asked him.
"Just like that, I don't have any specific reason. I know that it will be safe with you, but with me? I don't think. I am very careless, you know. And I don't want anyone else reading it. So, keep it with you and return it to me after tha battle, that is, if I make it out alive." Andy said, joking a bit at the end.
"Don't say it like, Andy. Of course you will make it out alive. We all will. And we would definitely have a party after that." Draco told him.
"Let's see then. By the way, did you read the whole thing?" Andy asked him.
"No. When I was searching for you, I read a diary entry, and then the one where you wrote about today. And before coming to you both, I read two entries titled 'different'. By the way, why did you write titles on all of them?" Draco asked him.
"Just like that. I like to read them in my free time, you know. Nobody really talked to me in Durmstrang, so whenever I used to get free time, and didn't have anything to do, I would re read them. And one day, I just decided to add headings like that, so I will know which is a happy one without reading the whole thing, and could read it whenever I am feeling sad." Andy told him.
"Okay. I guess that was it then. I just wanted to tell you about this. I hadn't told Hermione either, and I don't plan on telling her about it until after the battle. I know she won't like it." Draco said.
"That she won't." Andy smirked and said. He looked towards the girl they were talking about and saw her making her way towards them. "Oh look, here she comes." He added.
Draco removed the charm as she came. "Draco, do you have any idea who might have said those words?" She asked him.
"No. But I am still trying. If I just..." Draco trailed off.
"Do you have any idea when you might have heard those words?" Hermione asked him.
"Yeah. I think I heard them today only. Yes, I am sure, I heard them today only." Draco said.
"Did someone tell them to you, or you just heard them somewhere?" This time it was Andy who asked him.
"I think someone told them to me." Draco said.
"Then think about every person that you had talked to today. Maybe you will get your answer then." Hermione suggested.
"I talked to you, Saint Potter, Weaslette, Weaselbee, Madam Pomfrey, Andy, McGonagall and Goyle...." Draco again trailed off, but this time because he remembered something. He took the note and started reading it.
You became rather close to her, don't you think?
She forgets her place sometimes. She is nothing but the filth underneath my shoe.
"That mudblood forgets her place sometimes." He read.
She is nothing but the filth underneath my shoe.
"She is nothing but the filth underneath my shoe." He further read.
Don't give her that importance, Draco.
"Don't give her that importance." He finished reading and looked up at them as everything clicked into place.
Goyle had talked about Hermione when he gave him that note in the classroom. He told him that Andy had told him everything about him, but Andy had only told Hermione, and Draco got to know because he listened their conversation. Goyle was the first one to tell him about the Horcrux. Goyle was in the corridor outside the Hospital Wing. He was panting from running, and had his wand out. He was wearing Andy's watch. And finally, Goyle said all these words to him. The note mentioned Voldemort as Dark Lord, and Goyle still referred to Voldemort as the Dark Lord. It all made sense to him.
"It was Goyle." He simply said.
"What?" Hermione asked him.
"Goyle. Goyle was the one who told me these words. He was the first one to tell me about the Horcrux. He was even wearing your watch, Andy. Your watch was found near the place where Hermione was attacked. Goyle must have taken it, made a Leprechaun gold copy of it, and it vanished after a few hours, and McGonagall thought that you had taken it back. And your watch wasn't made of real gold, and he told me that his watch was not of real gold, and he didn't tell me where did he get it. It all makes sense. Goyle is probably the attacker." Draco explained it to them.
"But when did he get my watch?" Andy asked them.
"That is for Goyle to know, and for us to find out. We will ask him once we go to Hogwarts." Draco said.
"We just can't go like this to Hogwarts." Hermione told them.
"What do you mean? You want us to dress like we are meeting a celebrity or something? Wear nice suits and all? Prepare a meal for him? That also of a level of a Five-Star hotel?" Draco sarcastically asked her.
"Or perhaps learn to greet him in over fifty languages?" Andy joined him.
They both looked at each other and grinned at each other, before proceeding to High-Five with each other. Those two surely made great friends, looking like they were buddies for years, and not just started their friendship a few hours ago.
"What an idiot." Hermione told Draco. And when Andy smirked at her, she added, "You too. I swear, you both are nuts, really. For some so smart students, I had accepted better from you both." She rolled her eyes at the duo.
"Then explain your no doubt brilliant idea to us, Miss Granger." Draco muttered.
Ignoring his comment, Hermione told them her idea, "I think there is a connection between all of us who were attacked. There has to be, because I don't think Goyle would just pick up some random persons and attack them."
"What type of connection?" Andy asked her.
"Just think. The people who were attacked were me, Draco, Ron, Harry and Ginny. We all had one thing in common." Hermione said.
"You all played a part in bringing Voldemort's downfall." Draco said, finally understanding what she was talking about.
"Exactly. I told Harry that he should teach us spells us to help us in our fifth year, and then I helped him in searching for the Horcruxes, and finally, I destroyed the cup of Helga Hufflepuff with the basilisk fang." Hermione told.
"I didn't kill Dumbledore, I just disarmed him, which made me the master of the Elder Wand, and then Saint Potter took my wand in the Manor, making him the master of that wand, which helped him in killing Voldemort. Also, I didn't give you, Saint Potter and Weaselbee away in the Manor, which I think brought you some time. And then finally, I gave him my wand in the battle." Draco said.
"And Ron helped Harry with his search for the Horcruxes, and destroyed the locket of Salazar Slytherin." Hermione said.
Without waiting for an answer, she continued, "And of course, we all know what Harry did. He was the reason for Voldemort's downfall in 1981, he destroyed the Philosopher's stone, destroyed the diary in his second year, he didn't get killed from him in fourth year, was one of the reasons that many finally got to see that Voldemort was back in fifth year and also started Dumbledore's Army, got to know all about the Horcruxes in sixth year, and finally killed Voldemort."
"But how did Weaslette played a part in bringing his downfall?" Draco asked her.
"Ginny was in Dumbledore's Army, and she re started it in her sixth year along with Luna and Neville. And during the battle, we were dueling Bellatrix. She shot a killing curse at Ginny which fortunately missed her, but then Molly started dueling her, and eventually killed her. Voldemort was furious when she died. And we all know how close she was to Voldemort, she was one of the major death eaters, and killing her, certainly helped us." Hermione told them.
"Two of those people are here, and the others are not in the state of fighting. There are not much seventh years this time. What is the plan, Hermione?" Andy asked her.
"I don't know if this will work, or not, but it is the only one I have got know. Listen." Hermione said and told them her idea.
They both agreed, and quickly apparated back to Hogsmeade, as you cannot apparate into Hogwarts. But when they reached there, they found themselves at the boundaries of Hogsmeade.
Hermione tried going further, but was pushed back by an invisible force. Andy and Draco too tried, but got the same results as her.
"I think there are spells here, that are preventing us from entering." Andy said.
"They are probably set up by Goyle's supporters. And they are dark spells, I can bet." Draco said.
"We both know dark spells, Draco. Let us try them on this together, what do you say?" Andy asked him.
Draco looked at Hermione, he knew that she didn't like not being the one to do something. "Don't worry. Only you two can do it, I don't know these dark spells. Go ahead." She said and took a step back.
Draco nodded and stood next to Andy. "On one okay? Three... Two... One!" He shouted and silver light flew out from their wands as they used the dark spells. After approximately seven minutes, they were finally able to break the charms.
They were about to take a step, when Andy said, "Wait. Don't you think that this was so easy? I mean, we didn't even take so much time to break this."
"I know Goyle since my childhood, Andy. I know how his brain works. He doesn't think too much. He probably thought that we would be searching the non existing Horcrux all this time, and didn't think a way to stop us if we came early. I think it is safe to enter." Draco told them.
The other two nodded and together, the three entered. They quickly made their way to Hogswarts and what they found there, didn't shock them, because they had already thought that this would happen.
All around them was chaos. People were fighting each other. They could make out some of the Hogwarts students, fighting in their robes, with the death eaters who were wearing masks and cloaks. Teachers, students and even elves, all were fighting against them.
They could also see the stautes and suits of armour protecting the castle. Hermione was sure it was McGonagall who had used the spell, "Piertotum Locomotor", to bring them to life. Hermione couldn't help but be really impressed by her Professor and Headmistress at that time.
Setting their plan into action, all three went to their separate ways. According to their plan, Hermione was to protect the Elder Wand and take it to a safer place. They knew that the death eaters had no idea where the Elder Wand was since it was known only to the Golden Trio. Draco had told them that he would fight Goyle, he wanted to take revenge for them. And Andy had told them that he would protect Harry, since Goyle or any other death eater could only become the master of the Elder Wand if they managed to defeat Harry.
Hermione quickly made her way to Dumbledore's tomb. But she had to slow down as there were spells and curses flying all around. As she was walking towards the grave, she saw Seamus Finnigan fighting with a death eater. He was doing good, but then the death eater managed to stun him and Hermione changed her direction towards them to help him.
She quickly used the Impedement Curse on him and used Rennervate on Seamus. He quickly thanked her after waking up and she again made her way towards the tomb.
Upon reaching there, she found on one to her luck. She used a spell that Draco had taught her to check any item in a box or something like that. The spell shown that the Elder Wand was still inside the tomb.
She heaved a sigh of relief. She was about to put the protection charms all around the place, when she was suddenly disarmed.
She turned around to see none other than Alecto Carrow standing there. Her wand had fallen a few feet away from them, and Alecto quickly accioed it towards her.
"Tut tut, Granger. Did you think that you could get away so easily?" She asked her.
"Why did you follow me here? I mean, I am not of that importance, Harry is. Then why are you here?" Hermione asked her.
"We don't know the location of the Elder Wand. Potter was fighting the other death eaters, and so was everyone else. But you were headed in this direction. So I thought that you maybe going to the Elder Wand, so I decided to follow you." Alecto said.
Hermione looked around and saw some bricks lying near her. "Well, I am not alone now. I have my friends with me. You don't believe me? Fine. Look behind you." She knew that Alecto was a stupid person, and as if to prove her, Alecto turned around to see if someone was there. Hermione quickly took this chance and took a brick from the ground and threw it her.
Alecta got hit with it on her head, and she dropped the wands on the ground as she clutched her head. Hermione ran towards Alecto, but before she could reach there, she felt a spell hit her, and the next second, she was blasted into a wall.
Hermione touched her head, and felt blood on her fingers as she tried to sit up. She slowly stood up and used the wall to balance her. She saw Alecto and Amycus, her brother standing before her. "Looks like the Mayfair boy didn't do his job properly. But don't worry, we are here to do that. We won't kill you instantly, what fun is in that?" Amycus said and cast a Cruciatus Curse at her. At the same time, Alecto cast the Sectumsempra Curse at her.
She knew she couldn't dogde the spells. She was hardly able to balance herself. She also knew the spells together would be able to kill her, only Snape knew the healing spell fkr Sectumsempra and he was dead. And so she would be too, in a few moments.
She closed her eyes and waited for the spell.
And then there was a shout, "NO!"
-----------
Draco was fighting with the death eaters, while also trying to find Goyle. He was not anywhere to be seen.
He was currently dueling Yaxley, who, Draco had to admit, was good at dueling. He had barely dodged the killing curse and he sent back the stunning spell. It hit him and Draco turned around to search for Goyle.
But what he saw was enough to haunt him forever.
"NO!" He shouted as he ran towards her.
-----------
Hermione waited for the spell to come, but it didn't.
She waited for six moments and finally opened her eyes when she heard a blood curdling scream.
There on the ground, surrounded by a pool of his own blood, was Andrew Mayfair, who had jumped in front of her to save her life.
He was on the ground, huge gashes spread across his torso and a scream coming out of his mouth. Hermione couldn't do anything, she was helpless. She walked over to him and knelt beside him.
Draco quickly threw a stunning spell at Amycus and petrified Alecto. He made his way towards them and knelt beside Hermione.
Hermione placed Andy's head on her lap as he opened his eyes to look at her.
"H-hermione?" He croaked out.
"Are you stupid, Andy? Why did you do that?" Hermione asked him, her voice hoarse because of the tears she didn't know she was shedding.
"Y-you c-could have d-died if I hadn-n't." Andy said, his breaths becoming uneven.
"Draco, call someone. He is loosing a lot of blood. Please call someone." Hermione told Draco. He nodded and was about to get up when Andy weakly grabbed his hand.
"Don't. N-nob-body knows the h-healing s-spell for this. I-I don't have much t-time." Andy said.
"Don't say like that, Andy. We may be able to help you. DRACO GO!" Hermione shouted.
But Draco knew the truth, he knew that Andy couldn't be saved. "He's right, Hermione." He told her.
"No! You both are lying! You aren't dying, Andy, you aren't leaving us." Hermione cried.
"D-draco, can I-I break the p-promise?" Andy asked him. Draco nodded and Andy continued, "I have t-to tell something to tell y-you, H-hermione. I-I have feelings f-for you. I l-love you, really."
"Andy, I don't know what to-" Hermione starred but Andy cut her off.
"D-don't worry. I j-just wanted t-to tell you. I-I promised D-draco I w-wouldn't tell but I wanted to tell y-you b-before I d-die. And D-Draco, k-keep my diary. T-the real one as w-well. Y-you both can read it." Andy said.
"You s-shouldn't have done that, Andy." Hermione said through her tears.
"I-I don't have anyone w-waiting f-for me in my home. I don't have a-any family. You d-do. S-so I had to do that. B-besides I promised D-draco that I w-would die before I l-let something happen to you. I am not a c-coward, right?" Andy asked them.
"You are not, Andy. You are so brave." Draco said.
"T-thanks, D-draco. I h-hope you two will be happy t-together. Goodbye. I am c-coming Mum, Dad and A-amelia." Andy said and smiled a little, his hand, which was grabbing Draco, fell by his side, and his head fell to his side, his eyes closed, the ghost of his last smile on his face.
Hermione screamed his name and Draco buried her face in his chest as she cried, his own tears falling on her hair.
And a few feet away, stood the man responsible for all of this with Ginny and Harry held in front of him.
"Drop your wands everyone." Goyle said.
