Draco furiously looked at the person standing in front of him. He repeated his question, "What are you doing, Mayfair?"
When he still didn't answer, he added, "Answer me!"
Andy took a deep breath and looked at him. "Exactly what you told me to do, Draco." He smirked and said.
Draco looked at him for a moment and then smirked back at him. "Well, then I should compliment your skills, You did what you said you would do."
"I can't possibly ignore the order the only Malfoy heir and the Slytherin Prince gives me, now can I?" Andy said to him.
Draco nodded and said, "Finish doing your work, then. I will take care of the rest."
Andy nodded to thank him and Draco walked past him.
Once Draco reached his place, he turned back towards him and said, "You can cast the Muffliato charm."
Andy nodded and pointed his wand in front of him. After he cast the spell, he turned to look at the witch in front of him who was looking back and forth between him and Draco.
"A Knut for your thoughts?" He asked her.
"What exactly is going on, Andrew?" She asked him.
"Don't you remember what I told you a few seconds ago?" He asked her back.
Flashback
Andy leaned towards her and placed his mouth next to her ear, whispering, "Ever heard the phrase 'An eye for an eye'?"
Hermione's jaw dropped and her eyes were wide open as he said that. But before she could say anything, he pointed his wand and said those words that she had never imagined him to use on anyone.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Hermione closed her eyes as she waited for the spell to hit her. But after several moments when it didn't happen, she opened her eyes and saw Andy standing in front of her. "Am I dead?" She asked him.
"What do you think?" He asked her.
"I don't think I am. Firstly, because you are standing here, and I don't think you are dead, unless someone cast that spell on you before you did. And also because I didn't feel the spell hit me. I mean, I would have at least felt the impact or fallen down, but none of that happened. So, no. I am not dead." Hermione told him.
"Ah ha. The Brightest Witch of her Age is again right, though you are always right." Andy said.
"No, I am not always right, Andrew. I was wrong about you. I thought you were different, but no. You tried to kill me, but you probably just missed your aim or something like that." Hermione said as she shook her head.
Andy laughed and Hermione looked at him in confusion. He controlled himself and said, "Do you really think Hermione that I would miss my aim? There is barely the distance of just three feet between us, and you think I would miss my aim?"
"Then where did your spell hit?" She asked him. He just pointed his hand at something that was behind her. "I can't turn my face, Andrew, thanks to you."
"My bad. Just a sec." He said and pointed his wand at something. He muttered the levitation charm but it didn't work. "I always get stuck at this." He sighed frustratedly.
Hermione, who couldn't help herself. said, "It is leviOsa, not levioSA."
Andy looked at her and chuckled. "A person who can perform dark spells wouldn't be able to perform a spell that was taught in first year? Really, Hermione?" He smirked at her and continued, "I just wanted to check whether you would correct me or not, and you did. Old habits die hard, my little witch."
He again pointed his wand at something behind her, and muttered the charm. Something levitated behind her, and he used his wand to bring that thing in front of her, and dropped it on the ground.
Hermione gasped as soon as she saw what it was. "A b-body? A d-dead body?" She asked him.
Andy just nodded in reply and Hermione said, "Your spill hit this person. But why will-" She stopped speaking as she saw the face of that person, though she couldn't see it properly as it was covered with a mask. She looked back at Andy and said, "This person is, I mean was, a death eater!"
"Correct answer, Miss Granger. 10 points to Gryffindor." He muttered.
"But why will you kill him? It was not like that you were trying to protect me or something, you were talking about revenge a few minutes ago. Then why did you do that?" Hermione asked him.
"You will get your answers when your boyfriend comes here." Andy said.
"Draco is not my boyfriend!" Hermione said.
"I don't remember saying his name, do you? You just assumed I was talking about him." Andy said as he smirked when Hermione's cheek became as red as the colour of the top that she was wearing. He added, "Though, you are correct. Let Draco come, and you will get your answers."
"You will not harm him, Andrew. Do you understand? Otherwise-" Hermione threatened but Andy cut her off.
"Otherwise what, Hermione? Actually tell me one thing. How would you feel when you will get to know that Draco knows everything?" He asked her.
"What do you mean?" Hermione asked him.
"He knows everything. He knows that I have 'kidnapped' you. He knows that I have tied you like this. In fact, it was his idea to do this." Andy told her.
"You are lying! I know Draco. He would never do something like this." Hermione said as she refused to believe what he said. There was no way Draco would do something like that.
"You thought you knew me too, Hermione, and you were wrong about it. How do you know if you aren't wrong about him as well?" He said. He rubbed his ring that he was wearing and said, "If you don't believe me, then see for yourself. Draco will be here in three, two, one!
Flashback over
Just as Andy had said one, a 'Crack' was heard, the sound of someone apparting or disapparating. Hermione looked over Andy's shoulder, and to her horror or happiness-she couldn't decide, and as if to prove Andy's statement, there stood none other than Draco Lucius Malfoy.
Hermione had always been clear in her life, either she was happy to see someone or she was not. There was nothing in between. But this time, she had no idea how she was feeling to see him. There was a part of her that leapt with joy upon seeing him, but the other part, thought the worst.
He had just come when Andy had said one, as if they both had planned this before hand. Which was true, according to Andy's statement. Hermione looked at Draco with a expression that she herself couldn't interpret.
Maybe Draco had planned all of this with Andy, maybe he knew about all of this, and maybe he even suggested it. But it didn't make any sense to her. She trusted Draco, she knew she could. But she had also known that she could trust Andy. But she was proven wrong.
Maybe she was wrong about him as well?
Before she could think further, Andy snapped his fingers in front of her face, returning her focus back on the person in front of her.
"You just zoned out for a minute. And, you also didn't answer my question. Don't you remember what I told you a few seconds ago?" He again asked her.
Hermione answered in the affirmative and said, "I do. You told me that Draco knew all of this and maybe he even suggested you to do this. But, pray tell me, why would he do that?"
"Well, I will tell you, but you have to promise me that you won't unleash your anger one me." Andy put forward his condition.
Hermione just glared at him in return. He sighed and said, "Fine fine. At least you won't unleash your anger on me alone. Draco will face your wrath too, and maybe even more than me?"
Hermione thought for a few seconds and then said, "Fine. You won't face my wrath, as you call it, alone. Now tell me."
"I knew you wouldn't agree to the maybe part." He muttered but loud enough to Hermione to glare at him. He mocked to sigh this time and said, "Well, fair enough. Let's start the story, shall we?" He smirked and launched in the explanation.
Flashback
"Where were you?"
It had been over eleven minutes since he was waiting for him. He had gone to the Heads' Dormitory to pack his things as soon as they have gotten McGonagall's permission. Before separating their ways, he had pulled him to a corner and told him to meet him here in exactly half an hour, and so far there was no sign of him.
"Can he be any more bloody late?" He muttered in irritation.
It was bad enough for him to join them on this mission, at least according to him anyways, and now when he had to talk to him about something urgent and important, he was making him wait. "The nerve of him to do this." He again muttered. He was finally about to give up and go to check for him, when he heard footsteps coming his way, and looked up to see him standing there, his bagpack slung on his arm.
"I was packing my things." Andy answered his question.
"And it took you-" Draco checked his watch, "-more than fourty two minutes to do that?" He glared at him.
"I was packing my things, and I had to grab something important which wasn't in my dorm, so I had to go to the Room of Requirement to get it. That is why I was late." Andy explained it to him.
Knowing that he was talking about his diary, and that he had a copy of it, he said, "You could have just ask me for that."
But he realised that he shouldn't have said that a little too late. Typical Draco Malfoy.
"What? What do you mean by that?" Andy asked him, surely there was no way he could have known about that thing.
Draco scratched the back of his neck, while looking at the ground where he found his shoes very interesting to look at and quickly said, "N-nothing. Nothing at all. Just ignore that, yeah that is right. Ignore it."
"Are you okay?" Andy frowned at him and asked.
Draco looked up at him and said, "Yeah, I am fine. We don't have much time, considering you wasted so much of it, and I need to talk with you about something really important." Draco said, trying to change the subject.
And to his luck, Andy didn't question him about that any further and instead said, "Can't we talk about it on the way to the Hospital Wing?"
Draco looked around them and saw some students walking and laughing around, having no idea what was, or going to happen to the school and them. He had found an empty classroom while waiting for Andy and told him to follow him there.
Once inside, he locked the door and cast the Muffliato charm. He turned to him and said, "We can't risk someone listening this, as I think that some students must be involved with the attackers. And this is something rather important."
Andy studied his face for a moment and then said, "Is it about Hermione?"
"Yes." Draco simply said.
"What about her? See, if it is about my promise then you should know thag I won't break it, okay? I won't tell-" Andy started but Draco cut him off.
"No, it is not about that. I believe you, however strange that may sound. It is about her, about her safety. I don't want anything to happen to her. And I won't be able to stop her because she is too much of a Gryffindor to do that, and that is why, it is upon us to look out for her while we go through this mission."
Without waiting for any answer, he continued, "We both care a great deal about her, and we both don't want anything to happen to her. And I know that someone is threatening her."
"How do you know that?" Andy asked him.
"You received a note this morning, when we were exiting the Hospital Wing. And your expression changed to fear from normal when you read the note and looked at Hermione. She may not have noticed that, but I certainly did. So Andrew, what was written in the note?" Draco asked him.
"Why must you notice everything?" Andy muttered and sighed. He took out the note from his pocket and handed it over to him.
Mayfair
I am not gonna waste time in saying dear or hello or how are you. Let us get straight to the point, shall we?
The thing is, the mudblood of Potter, is known to interfer so much in everyone's matters, it is bloody infuriating.
I know of your past, your relations with the Dark Lord, and the things he has done. You were one of the highest ranked death eaters when he was there, and I am sure you know a great deal of dark spells, more than anyone else.
The mudblood forgets her place sometimes, she is nothing but the filth underneath my shoe.
And I want you to complete a task I am giving you. Kill her. That is right. Show that you still are one of us and kill the mudblood, but not before telling her a cover up story that you want revenge blah blah blah. Her expression must be priceless, too bad I won't be able to watch it. But my other mates are going to. You have been warned before hand, do the job, otherwise you both will be killed, alongside the Malfoy heir and many other people.
Don't give her that importance. We are watching you.
- We are after the thing that the Dark Lord thought was his.
Draco read the note and looked at Andy, who was watching him with a expression that Draco could onky make out as 'what-the-bloody-hell-are-we-going-to-do?'
"We need to do as he or she says." Draco said.
"What? Are you bloody mental, Draco? First you say you love her-" He started but Draco interrupted him.
"No, I didn't say that. I said that I like her-" But he too was interrupted.
"And then you go and kiss her-"
"It was a long time ago, mind you-"
"And then you ignore her when we kissed-"
"I didn't know the whole story-"
"And then I come and clear everything-"
"Yes, thank you for that again, by the way-"
"And then I promise that I would not tell anything about my feelings to your girlfriend-"
"She is not my girlfriend-"
"And then you are planning to kill her. Really Malfoy?" Andy finished.
"Over? Are you bloody done?" Draco glared at him and continued, "Of course, I don't plan on killing her. I was telling you about the need to protect her some minutes ago. I have plan."
He then told him about his plan and gave him a ring, instructing that, "Whenever you think that you both are safe, or need me in anyway, just rub this ring. When you do that, the ring I am wearing will become hot." He gestured to his ring that he was wearing and added, "I would immediately come to you both, where ever you would be."
"Nice plan." Andy complimented him.
Draco nodded in thanks and removed the charms from the door. He pushed opened the door and exited the room and Andy followed him.
He grabbed his arm and said, "Don't tell anyone about this. And yeah, keep Hermione near you all the time, don't let her out of your sight. Please."
Andy placed his hand above Draco's and said, "Don't worry, Draco. I won't let anything hapen to her. I would die before I let anything happen to her."
"Don't say things like that, Andrew. As much as I don't like you, I don't want you to die. I would never admit this thing again, but I would probably miss you, at least a tiny bit. And Hermione sure will, the most of us. You don't want her to be sad, do you?" Draco said.
"We will see." Andy said and they both walked forward. "By the way-" Andy nudged Draco with his elbow and asked, "-why isn't she your girlfriend yet?"
Draco looked everywhere except him and Andy asked, "She didn't say yes?"
"N-no. It is not like that." Draco said.
Andy again nudged him and asked, "Then what it is?"
"Ihadn'taskedheryet." Draco quickly said.
Andy smirked seeing Draco's pale cheeks turn a shade of red. Though he perfectly heard what he had said, he asked him, "I am sorry, what did you say?"
"I hadn't asked her yet." Draco said, and again looked at his shoes, having found something interesting.
Andy laughed at his reaction and said, "Then what are you waiting for, Draco? You like-no wait, love-her and she likes-probably loves-you too. What is stopping you?"
"I don't know. I am afraid that it will make things between us awkward." Draco admitted.
"You won't know unless you try. Believe me, Draco, when I say that you don't want to feel the pain of losing your girl. I did. I lost my girlfriend and I don't want anyone else to suffer through that. Ask her as soon as possible." Andy said.
And for the first time since Andy had entered their lives, Draco actually felt that he could be a nice friend if he wanted to. "Thanks, Andrew. Well, can we be friends? A little too late, I know, but can we finally be?" He held out his hand for him.
Andy grinned at him and instead of shaking his hand, he pulled him for a manly hug. Draco stood frozen for a moment but returned the hug.
"Friends." Andy said as he pulled away.
"We should probably go now, Andrew." Draco said as he smiled at his new friend.
"Huh, what did I say when I met Hermione for the first time this in your common room? My friends call me Andy, remember? So should you. We are friends after all." Andy smirked at him.
"Yes, yes. Andy. Happy now? Come on let us go." Draco said and the two new friends made their way towards the Hospital Wing.
Flashback over
"But then why did he call you Mayfair when he came?" Hermione asked him.
"Because he was waiting for me to finish the story. Otherwise, you would have been confused." Andy told her.
"Hmm." Was all Hermione said in reply.
"When Draco exited the tent, I saw some death eaters wandering around. They knew that we were here somewhere, thanks to the person who was behind that note. But they couldn't actually see us, due to all the protection spells. I knew they were planning something and may attack the whole area, so I knew I had to get us out of here. I glanced back at Draco only to see that he was already looking at me, so I motioned him to go somewhere else, and as soon as I heard the crack of his apparation, I saw the death eaters breaking your spells. Once I reached here, I saw the death eaters vanishing somewhere else. When you started asking me what I was doing, I saw some death eaters hiding under the Disillusionment charm, I knew they were there, thanks to one of the dark spell that I had performed on myself earlier, which helped me to see everyone who was hiding under that charm. There were too many, we couldn't have defeated them, besides, we needed to make sure that the attacker believed that I was on his side. So I made up the whole story. Before I used the killing spell, I saw most of them disapparating, but one remained in his place, behind you. So I used the spell on him. I think the death eaters were proabbly following us from Hogwarts, but we just didn't notice them at that time, they could have put a spell on us, to follow us all the time." Andy said.
"Then I think it is clear that a student or a group of students may be involved in this, since they couldn't have placed a spell on us if they weren't present in the school." Hermione said.
"I think that person may have put the spell on Draco. You remember he went out of the Hospital Wing when we received the note there?" Andy suggested.
"But if that was the case, then either Draco or any of us should have noticed it." Hermione said.
"No. The spell to follow someone every place they go, is a very rare spell. It is sometimes considered as a dark spell as well, and it is not very known. The person doesn't feel the impact of the spell when it hits their body, and it doesn't have any colour either. So it is very hard to detect that spell on anyone, and that is why we didn't know." Andy told her.
"If such a spell exists, then surely the Ministry would have excelled in catching all the death eaters by now, but it didn't happen." Hermione said.
"That's the thing, Hermione. This spell could only be cast by a death eater, since it was made by Voldemort before Harry caused his downfall in 1981." Andy explained it to her.
"But there are death eaters who turned on our side, they could have helped." Hermione exclaimed.
"But the problem is that a death eater can only cast it, if he is still a death eater. That is, if he still if a follower of Voldemort, and does bad work. If he has done even one good work, or has the intention to do so, then he can't do it. You have to be totally bad if you want to cast it, and also have a dark mark of course." Andy said.
Hermione just nodded in reply. " So, once I killed that death eater, and told you that Draco may be involved in this, I called him here." Andy said.
"And right now what he is doing?" Hermione asked him.
"See for yourself." Andy said and released her from the spell and told her that he was taking care of the body. She immediately launched herself at him and started punching his chest.
"Ow, ow, ow. Control Hermione. Draco should face your anger too." Andy said as he grabbed her hands. "But I need to tell you something. You remember that mission that Voldemort gave me? It was to kill you and Ron, and bring Harry to him. I followed you three everywhere, and saw everything. But I didn't do anything, nor tell him. That's why he killed my parents , because I failed."
"Why are you telling me this now?" Hermione asked him.
"Because there might be a chance that I may not get to tell you this afterwards, and I don't want to keep you in the dark. And before you ask that question, no, I don't regret not doing what he told me. Because if I did, you three would have died and Voldemort would still be alive, ruining more lives than he did before. I know my parents wanted me to do what I did, they told me before he killed them that they were proud of me, because I might have played a part in bringing his downfall. But I feel like a coward. I should have done something to prevent him from killing my parents and Amelia." Andy said.
"You are brave, Andy. So brave. If you don't call what you did to save us as bravery, then I don't know in which world you live. You are braver than me even." Hermione said and pulled him in for a hug.
"No, Hermione, I-" Andy started as he wrapped his arms around her but she cut him off.
"Shh... Don't you dare deny it, Andy. We both know that it is the truth. And I am sorry for all those things that I said earlier to you. I never should have doubted you. I really am sorry." Hermione apologized to him.
Andy pulled away and placed his hands on her upper arms, and said, "It's okay, Hermione. It wasn't your fault. I told you such things that you were bound to react that way. Honestly speaking, if you hadn't reacted that way, I would have been disappointed."
Hermione chuckled a bit on his statement and Andy smiled seeing that. As Hermione sobered up, Andy said, "There's however one more thing that you should know."
"What?" She asked him.
"When Draco read that note which I had gotten, he said that he might know someone who can be behind that. He said that he had heard some of those exact words earlier as well, and he might suspect that person to be behind that note." Andy explained it to her.
"Does he know that person?" Hermione asked him.
Andy shook his head and then said, "No. He couldn't remember it at that moment and he didn't get any time to think afterwards as well because as soon as we reached the Hospital Wing, you apparated us to the forest. That was one of the reasons why he told me to use the Muffliato charm on him, so that our talk won't disturb his thinking process. That and because I told him that I wanted to tell you something personal, about my mission which I told you earlier, and he said that he didn't mind not being able to know."
Before Hermione could say anything, Draco came towards them and Andy removed the spell. "I buried the body and I just realised something, I had heard those words today only, when I went to search for Andy."
"Hermione, you are forgetting something." Andy said, smirking at her. It took a moment for Hermione to realise what he was saying, and as soon as she did, she turned towards Draco and started punching his chest.
"Ow... Women. Control yourself. What's this for?" Draco asked her as he grabbed her arms and held them between themselves.
"You bloody well know what it was for. You both planned for my safety and didn't think to inform me atleast?" Hermione said as she glared at the two.
"Not telling you was the key. If we had told you, then you wouldn't have reacted the way you did, and the death eaters that were hiding wouldn't have believed our act, and we all would have been in danger, so we had to do it." Andy said.
Draco released Hermione but she continued to glare at the two. Suddenly she asked Andy, "Do you still have your watch?"
"Wh-why?" Andy asked her, not having a clue about the reason behind her question.
"Just tell me!" Hermione ordered him.
"No. That was just an act, I already told you. My watch is still missing." Andy said.
"Then it is possible that your watch maybe with the attacker even after all this time. And it just proves what we were discussing earlier as well, the attacker has to be linked with Hogwarts." Hermione said.
Draco suddenly realised something and turned to Andy. Grasping him by his shoulders, he shook him and asked, "Can you produce a image of your watch?"
Andy knew better than to ask him the reason, he didn't want to test his patience. So he quickly drew his wand out and produced a copy of his watch. Draco quickly snatched that, and the other two stood in silence as he concentrated on that thing.
After nearly five minutes, he threw the watch on the ground and exclaimed, "Of course it was there. Why didn't I realise it earlier?"
"What are you on about, Draco?" Hermione asked him.
"Goyle! I saw the watch on his hand when I saw him near the Hospital Wing today." He said.
"You said the corridor was empty." Hermione asked him.
"Well... I thought that..." Draco started sheepishley.
"You know what, we can talk about the reason afterwards. Let's focus on Goyle right now." Andy said, quickly coming to his rescue.
Draco shot him a grateful look and said, "I think I am remembering something about those words." He pulled out the note and started reading it again.
But before he could finish reading it, Hermione snatched the note out of his hands and started reading it herself.
"We are after the thing the Dark Lord thought was his." She muttered as she read. "What could it be?" She asked them.
"Well, it could be any dark object, I suppose. Not like he wanted any ancient magical object, like the Deathly Hallows or something like that." Andy shrugged and said.
Hermione looked at him for a moment and Draco shook his head. But a second later found Hermione patting Andy's back while he and Draco had no idea what was happening.
"That's it! Thank you so much, Andy." Hermione said.
"Well... Uh- you are welcome, but may I ask what for?" Andy asked her
"You just solved it! The Deathly Hallows!" Hermione answered his question.
When those two still didn't understand, she threw up her hands in the air and said, "The Elder Wand, boys! Voldemort thought that the Elder Wand was his before Harry killed him. It's one of the Deathly Hallows. That's what they are after now."
"So my sarcastic-" Andy started but Draco cut him off.
"Bad actually." Draco interjected.
"-whatever joke gave you the answer?" Andy finished with a smirk. "I should do that more often." He added, and Draco quickly shook his head and gave him a look that said we-are-all-fine-without-your-bad-jokes.
"Do you know where the wand is now?" Draco asked her.
"Yes, it is in Dumbledore's grave, in Hogwarts grounds. Harry put it their after the battle ended." Hermione told him.
"Wait, I just remembered something." Draco said suddenly. He almost pulled out Andy's diary, but in the end decided against it. "There is no horcrux. Those were there, they were already destroyed and then Saint Potter killed Voldemort." He added.
"B-but, Andy said that there was another horcrux, his first medal that he had earned!" Hermione said.
"When did I say that?" Andy asked her.
"Do you honestly don't remember anything, Andy? You told me in the Hospital Wing. Quit acting strange." Hermione said, but then after a pause, she continued, "Well, now that I think about it, you were acting really strange this morning. First, you suddenly stumbled forwards when there was nothing to make you lose your balance, and then you told me about the horcrux. And then your eyes were looking as if you are hypnotised by something, like you were in a trance like state, as if someone hit you with a spell. You were looking at me, but you weren't actually looking at me. You told me that you didn't know why Voldemort killed your parents or why you didn't tell anyone. And then, you suddenly stumbled again, and then you forgot everything about this mission. It was as if someone was controlling you!"
"Stumbled forwards... Hit by a spell... Trance like state... Hypnotised... Stumbled again... Forgot everything... Controlling..." Draco muttered to himself and looked at the two with wide eyes as realization dawned on him. "I think someone used the Imperius Curse on him. He stumbled, looked as if hypnotised, didn't know the reason and blah blah blah... The one who cast the spell, he told you what he wanted you to tell others, but he didn't know the private information like the reason and that's why he said 'didn't know', that person may not have realised his mistake. And then you forgot everything, it happens if a person tells you what you have to tell. It all fits! You were under the Imperius Curse!" Draco explained it to them.
"Oh God. It means someone wanted us to go after the Horcrux, to go for a mission, and to leave Hogwarts." Hermione said.
"Wait, who is the master of the Elder Wand, now?" Andy asked her.
"Harry. And he is not even properly healed right now. The attacker can defeat him, and then become the master of the Elder Wand." Hermione told him.
"Do you know what that means?" Andy asked them, though he himself knew the answer.
"It means that it was a bloody trap. We need to go to Hogwarts now!" Draco said.
