Draco glared at him as he sat down across from him. He had been doing this for the past half an hour. Sitting on the couch, then opening his mouth, trying to say something, failing at it, and then closing it, shaking his head, standing up, looking back at him, sighing and sitting back down.
All this while, Draco would just stare at him or think about whether to punch him or throw him out. And if he got a little more annoyed, he would plan ways to avoid him for the rest of his life or ways to kill him. Just as he opened his mouth again to speak and closed it again, Draco decided it was probably the latter.
Just as he stood up again, Draco got really frustrated. "Oh for God's sake!" He exclaimed.
The other person was shocked at his outburst. He was about to sit down again but he hadn't yet, so he was struck in mid air as he was too shocked to do anything else.
"Will you freaking sit down, Mayfair? Or I swear you will face the end of my wand." Draco growled.
Andy visibly gulped and quickly sat down. "I-I am sorry, Draco. I-" He started but Draco cut him off.
"First of all, you barge into my common room, saying you have something important to talk about Granger." He held up one finger as he said that. Then after a moment, he held up two fingers as he continued, "Second, I don't have a clue what you are trying to say and I would better do my homework than waste my time with you." He held up three fingers as he added, "Third, you have been doing this idiotic sitting-opening mouth-closing it-shaking your head-standing up-looking back at me-sitting back down-sighing and repeat. And that is annoying me to a great deal. So you better speak up now."
"Well, I sighed before I sat down, not after I sat down. So you have mistake there. Otherwise, everything is correct. So seven out of eight for you. Not a bad score, I would say." Andy said as he counted his actions on his fingers.
Draco crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow at him. "Why thank you, Professor Mayfair, for your kind remarks." He said, his voice filled with sarcasm.
"Well, if I hadn't known better, I would have thought that you fancy me or something, seeing as you so closely observed my actions." He said as he smirked at him.
But Draco only glared at him in return and that caused Andy to let out a nervous chuckle. He straightened his back and then said, "First of all, it's Hermione for you and not Granger." And just like Draco, he too held up one finger as he said that. He too waited for a moment and then held up two fingers and said, "Second, I know you have ignored her for the last three days and, believe me, whenever I see her, either she is looking at you or she is ignoring everyone else. She doesn't even talk to Harry now properly and he asked me if I knew what had happened to her."
It was true. After he discovered that Hermione had betrayed him, which had happened three days ago, he started to ignore her. He wouldn't wait for her to go to the Great Hall as he normally did. He would wake up before her and would return either by the time she would be asleep or if, by chance, she would be awake and sitting in the common room, he would straightaway ignore her and enter his room, no matter how many times she tried to talk to him. If they had to do the rounds, he would walk ahead of her and wouldn't pause even when she asked him too. Draco missed her. He would look at her whenever she wasn't looking and sometimes he was on the verge of running towards her, wrapping his arms around her and just tell her how much he missed her.
But he couldn't. No matter how much he missed her, he had to stay strong. He wouldn't let anyone, specially her, break down his walls again.
He trusted her. But now? He didn't. Even if there was a small part of that screamed that he still trusted her, he would never admit it.
"Third," Draco was brought out of his thoughts by Andy as he held up three fingers and said, "You must not have given her a chance to explain herself, because if you had, you wouldn't treating her like this. And that job has to be done."
Draco looked away from him as he said that. He hated to admit it, but Andy was right, even if it was the first and last time in his life.
"So I took it upon myself to explain each and everything to you. I was nervous at first, but now, let me tell you everything that happened that day." Andy said.
"Start your show now, Mayfair." Draco said coldly.
Andy took a deep breath and said, "I was returning to the Ravenclaw Tower after dinner that day, and I was alone because I had spent some minutes in the library before making my way to the Tower. I was near the Potions class, I guess, when I felt someone following me, and I had drawn my wand out and was thinking which spell to use even before I turned around to look who was there. You know how Voldemort trained his Death Eaters, so that was naturally my first move. Well, I was just about to turn around when that person casted a spell on me. I didn't know what it was at first but when that person ordered me to turn around, my feet obeyed even when I didn't want to, so I knew that I was under the Imperius curse. That person apparently had used a Disillusionment charm since I couldn't see who was it, but that charm was luckily not strong enough so I could see dark brown hair reaching till a person's waist and I could see the Slytherin badge on the robe of that person, so I guessed that person was a Slytherin witch. She made me enter into an empty classroom and I saw Hermione standing there. I knew she was under the Imperius Curse when that person ordered us to move closer. She told us to...kiss and we did that. Mind you, we were still under the curse. And I heard the door opening and we broke away because that person told us and I saw you standing there. That person again ordered Hermione to tell a secret of yours that no one knew about and Hermione told me about your mother. And after you ran away from there, that person released us from the curse and closed the door, locking it to stop us from following her for a while."
By now, Draco's jaw dropped to the floor and his eyes were wide. "W-what?" He stammered.
"Yes. It's true, Draco." Andy said.
"B-but if you two were released just after I had run away from there, why did she take so much time to come back here?" Draco asked him.
Andy let out a humourless laugh and said, "Because she was crying, Draco. Crying because she felt guilty of betraying you and your trust. Crying for a person who didn't even give her a chance to explain her actions before accusing her."
Draco looked down for a moment and then said, "Look, Mayfair, I-"
But Andy cut him off and said, "I honestly have no interest in listening why you did and what you thought blah blah blah. I just wanted to clear everything to you since you wouldn't let Hermione tell anything to you."
Draco sighed and said, "I know what I did was wrong. I know that-" But Andy again cut him off by standing up.
"No, Draco, you don't know. Because, believe me, if you did, you wouldn't have reacted like that. I don't know what caused you to do like that but you cannot change what you did. You hurt her, made her cry and accused her." Andy said as he pointed his finger at Draco.
Draco too stood up and said, "I know and I am sorry for that."
"Save your sorry for her, Draco. I don't need a piece of it. I just wanted to tell you everything that happened so hopefully you could apologise to her." Andy said.
"I would apologise, trust me." Draco said.
"Trust? I should trust you? Do you even know the meaning of that word? Because I think you clearly don't. You trusted her when you told her all that stuff and you thought she broke your trust when she did all of that things." Andy said as he stood in front of him.
Not giving him a chance to say anything, Andy grabbed him by his collar and said, "I like her, Draco. Very much, mind you. I wouldn't lie by saying that I didn't like kissing her at that time. Even if we were under the Imperius Curse, that kiss meant so much to me, and you would never know that. Even Hermione wouldn't, because I would not tell her how much I like her."
He released his collar and said, "I am promising you, Draco. I would not tell her how I feel about her and how much that kiss meant to me. Because I know that you like her and apparently she likes you too. She means the world to me, Draco. And if you are thinking that I am backing out because I know that I have no chance, you are completely wrong. I would not tell her that I like her even if I had a chance with her because I know that I don't deserve her. But you, Draco? You are a completely different story. I have seen how happy she is when she is with you and how much she is hurting now because of what happened. I just want to tell you that you still have a chance and you should immediately apologise to her."
Draco took a moment to take in all of that but then quickly said, "I know what to do now, May-Andrew. And I am sorry for treating you like I did. But, now I want to start over. So truce? Atleast for her sake?" He held out his hand for him to shake.
Andy thought for a moment and then shook Draco's hand with his own. "Truce. For her sake." Andy said.
He walked towards the Portrait and was about to exit when Draco said, "Thank you, Andrew. For telling me all of that. Really, thank you."
Andy nodded and turned back towards the portrait. Looking at him over his shoulder, he said, "Believe me Draco when I say don't let her go. You don't know how much it would hurt if something happened to her because of you. Trust me, I know."
And without waiting for a response, he exited the room.
------------
Hermione had just entered the Heads' Dormitory when her jaw dropped and her eyes were wide. She took a deep breath and smelled something really familier.
"Is-is that hot chocolate?" She asked herself.
But before she could do anything else, someone entered the common room apparently from the joined kitchen with two glasses in their hands.
She couldn't see who it was since that person was wearing a cloak but she had a pretty good guess who he was.
"Who are you?" She asked, her wand pointed at that person's chest. Guess or not, she didn't want to take any chances.
"Remove the hood and find out for yourself. And yeah, not by levitating it or using any other spells. Do it the muggle way." That person said in a voice which was too familier to her.
She hesitated for a bit but then walked towards that cloaked person. Standing in front of her, she used her hand to remove the hood from the that person's face.
To say she was shocked despite of her guess being correct would be an understatement.
"D-Draco?" She stuttered as she said his name.
"The one and only." He replied as he shrugged his shoulders casually.
"But-what-how? What happened?" She asked him.
"Shh. Take a deep breath and relax." He said as he set the two glasses on the table and placed his hands on her shoulders, squeezing it lightly.
Hermione did just as he told while he asked her, "Do you like it, what I did to this common room?"
"You did this all? For me?" She asked him.
"No. For Saint Potter." He said and smirked at her.
"But why would you do this for him? He has a girlfriend, you know." Hermione said.
Draco chuckled at her reply and said, "Oh Hermione. You are too cute sometimes." He pinched her cheeks lightly as they became a deep shade of red as she blushed at his compliment.
Draco had decorated the common room with roses, violets and lilies, three of her most favourite flowers. Their were scented candles too, on the table, on the shelves and on the kitchen counter. He had even enchanted the ceiling to match the sky outside. But turns out that he wasn't able to do that properly and it mostly showed the stars outside, instead of the clouds that the sky was filled with outside.
He took her hand and led her to the couch. Her hand still in hers, he handed her the glass as he himself picked one when they both sat down.
After Hermione took a sip from it, he asked, "How is it?"
"Did you make it the muggle way?" She asked him.
"Yes. And putting the cream with chocolate sauce on top of it after I poured it into the glass. And adding those weird squishy things you call Marshymill. The muggle way, just like how you taught me." Draco said, scrunching his nose when he ate that squishy thing.
Hermione chuckled at his pronouncation of marshmallow and decided against correcting it. She took another sip and then said, "Well I must say I quiet like it. It's good, really."
"Honestly?" He asked her
"Honestly. Hundred percent." She said smiling at him.
He smiled back at her and drank his hot chocolate. He waited in silence till she finished drinking her hot chocolate. Once she finished it, she put it on the table and Draco turned to her.
But before he could even utter a word, Hermione said, "I am so sorry, Draco. I really didn't want to do all of that. But I was-" But he cut her off.
"You were forced. I know. Andrew told me." Draco said.
"Andy? But when did he came here and-wait, hold on, did you just called him by his name, Andrew and not Mayfair?" She asked him, not believing what he said.
Draco smirked at her and said, "Yes, I did, Hermione." He then waited for a moment and then said, "Do you believe me?"
She looked at him as she remembered the day when he had asked her the same question.
"Yes, I do." She said smiling at him.
The day was different, the situation was different, the feelings were different, but her answer remained the same, and would always remain that way too.
He stood up, pulling her with him. He walked towards the centre of the room and turned towards her. Her hand still in his.
"I am so sorry, Hermione. I had no idea that you two were under the Imperius Curse. I didn't behave rationally and accused you, even before giving you a chance to explain your actions. I am really sorry." Draco said as he looked her in the eyes, his hand still holding hers.
"It's okay, Draco. It wasn't your fault. You thought that I had betrayed you, so you did what you thought at that moment. If I had been in your place, I would have done the same." Hermione said to him.
"We both know that it's a lie. You would not have behave like that. You would never behave like that. You would have thought rationally and given me a chance to explain, no matter how angry or hurt you would be. I know you, Hermione. So don't try to lie to me." Draco said.
Hermione smiled at him and said, "And I know you, Draco. So don't apologise for something that wasn't your fault. We are humans, Draco. And we make mistakes. It's normal."
Draco smiled at her and said, "I really am sorry, Hermione. I hope you forgive me."
She squeezed his hand and placed a hand on his cheek. "I do." She said.
He smiled at her and wrapped his arms around her tightly. She too hugged him as he started drawing circles on her back with his finger.
Draco was really thankful to Andy at that moment, no matter how many times that ferret tried to deny that.
Everything was peaceful and normal for them. Only problem? Nothing is ever normal in Hogwarts for them.
----------
It had been a day since Hermione and Draco solved their misunderstandings. And everything returned back to it's routine for them. He would wait for in the morning to go the Great Hall together. And would return back before she fell asleep. He would not ignore her in the corridors or in the class and would occasionally wave or nod or smile at her, and she would do the same. She would bake cookies for him, or teach him more about muggle things which he would find sometimes amusing and sometimes really stupid.
Hermione was quietly studying in the library when somebody almost fell on her.
"Woah-you okay- Andy?" Hermione looked up to see Andy standing near her, one of his hand on the table, trying to support him and the other on his waist. He was panting and trying to speak.
"I-I am sorry, H-Hermione. But y-you have to come really f-fast with me. To the H-Hospital Wing. Quickly." He said while taking deep breaths in between.
"Hospital Wing? Why? What happened, Andy?" She asked as she stood up from chair and stood next to him.
"J-just come fast. Ask questions a-afterwards. P-please." Andy said.
Hermione grabbed his arm, half reason being for supporting him and the other half for demanding the asnwer for her question.
"Answer my question, Andy. Tell me what happened. Now." Hermione said sternly.
"It's Draco." He said.
Hermione's jaw dropped and panic quickly filled her mind. "D-Draco? What happened to him? Tell me Andy!" She shook his shoulder when he didn't reply.
"I don't know. I was going to the Great Hall, and just when I passed the Potions classroom, I heard something or somebody fall. So I immediately made my way there and I-I saw Draco lying on the ground there. He was heavily bleeding and when I searched for a pulse, it was very weak. So I immediately took him to the Hospital Wing and now Madam Pomfrey is healing him. So I immediately came to the library since I knew you would be here." Andy explained everything to her.
Hermione didn't bother to reply to him or wait for him. Just as he finished explaining, she ran towards the door on her full speed. She was just out the door when she heard footsteps behind her, telling her that he is following her.
"No, no, no." she kept on saying this as she ran towards the Hospital Wing on the speed that she didn't knew she had. Nothing should happen to him. Please be alright, Draco. She kept on muttering.
Just as she reached the Hospital Wing, Andy, who was just behind her, took her arm and led her towards his bed.
Madam Pomfrey was currently standing beside his bed.
Hermione's knees felt weak when she saw his condtion. His chest and torso was fully covered fully with bandages. His head too, was wrapped in bandage. His arm, that had the Dark Mark on it, was wrapped in bandage but she could still see some blood on it.
"What happened to him?" She asked Madam Pomfrey.
"He was hit with more than three crucios, I guess. And also he was hit with Diffindo. And some other dark spells. He is very critical right now, and his pulse is still weak. Mr Mayfair brought him just in time." She explained.
"You take care of him, Hermione. I need to go somewhere immediately. Inform me when he wakes up." Andy said and squeezed her shoulder lightly before making his way out of the Hospital Wing.
-----------
"What is your damn problem?" Andy shouted as he pinned her to the wall.
"I told you I didn't do anything. It wasn't me." She said as Andy took out his wand from his pocket.
"I saw your bracelet near the door of that classroom. And I understood that it was you who used the Imperius Curse on me and Hermione." Andy said angrily.
That girl pushed him away took out her wand.
"Yes, I did that. But I didn't do anything to Draco, I would never hurt him." She said.
"I would tell all of this to McGonagall." Andy said and turned around
But before he could walk away, she grabbed his arm and said, "Don't you dare do that, Mayfair. Otherwise your little secret will come out."
"What do you want?" He asked her.
"Save me from getting any punishment or getting expelled and I would save your little secret." She said and smirked at him.
"You won't get away from this, Astoria Greengrass." Andy said as he glared at her.
