CHAPTER THIRTY-3REE
Eghe's POV
Saturday night
My kids were hovering around me, a lot of chattering, side remarks, shouting and a little of cursing, especially from Obosa and Genzebe. One minute they were sweet to each other, the other minute they're tearing each other apart with words.
Mommy, Mum, momma I couldn't help but smile anytime I hear them call to me.
Genzebe and Obosa stayed by my side as I dressed up for a date with their father. Oghosa was with my father, he took a liking to my father and has been with him since they came in yesterday. My father too had not gone to the office today, just so he could be with his other grandbabies.
"Mom, you look beautiful" Obosa soft voice brought me out of my trance.
"Yes, she looks so beautiful" Genzebe chipped in.
"Dad's gonno drool over Mom" Obosa continued.
"Who taught you that" I asked surprised. They were nine for fuck sake. I noticed since their arrival yesterday, they say words not befitting for nine years old, sometimes leaving Genzebe confused and I shocked.
"My aunt Shirley" Obosa answered proudly.
Shirley again. Shirley was Ikay's twenty four years old sister. She wonder what else the young lady must have implanted in her daughter's head, since Obosa practically grew up with them.
"Mommy, Aunty Shirley will come see me next week" Genzebe said feeling left out.
"Yes mom, she wants to meet Genzebe" Obosa contributed. "But we call you Eghosa junior back home" she told her sister.
"I'm Ej___" I muted Genzebe's reply to the background and Thought about Ikay. Wondering how he made his money.
He drove a Black barbros yesterday, then came down with an evoque (Range rover) on Wednesday. What was his story? I realized I never really knew him. I didn't know some basic things about the man I married. The only info i had of him was of nine years ago, he lived in a slum and him showing me pictures of his only sibling (who was sixteen at that time) and mother in a refugee camp.
Why he decided to drop Obosa with his parents in a refugee camp I couldn't fathom. Then, who did Oghosa grow with? I had a lot of questions for him and I couldn't wait for us to be alone together.
I applied my mascara and exhaled staring at myself through my dressing room mirror. From my reflexion, I could see a woman who was calm, the sparkles in my eyes were coming back. I knew I was happy, happy since my family came back, happy that I was finally reunited with them.
"How're you little angels doing today"
My mother's voice brought me out of my riverine. I stared at my mom and kids through my dressing mirror. I watched as my mother walked towards me, peering down at me. I knew she had questions, I wasn't ready to answer.
My mother wasn't a big fan of Ikay. My mother in her opinion thinks Ikay doesn't worth having me, he was an opportunist, I shouldn't have ended up with him. My mother always wanted a rich and influential man for me. I was an only child and I deserved the best.
"Mom" I called, still looking at her through the mirror as I dropped my red Mac lipstick I just applied.
"Your Dad said you're going on a date with him". My shoulders slumped.
"Mom, its Ikay. Ikpownosa" I pronounced his full name.
"Are you really going to make this easy for him" my mom asked bitterly. I kept mute.
"He can't just walk in after 8years and think he can have his way back" I dropped my gaze and stared blankly at a blush powder.
"Mom, he is the father of my kids" I informed her softly
"And so?" My mom retorted hatred and bitterness laced her tone.
"I was wrong mommy, I should have gone with him when he asked" I replied her looking straight into her eyes. I was getting pissed by her manners.
"Don't make it easy for him" she said quietly so that the kids who were now staring at us wouldn't hear. "He left Eghe__Eight years is too long a time to teach someone a lesson, furthermore your kids are all here with you, you can now take legal actions" my mother finished with a very condescending tone.
"Mom" I began startled "that's because he accepted to bring them down" I watched my mom roll her eyes and cringe her nose but continued. I felt so sad, why was my mother making things difficult for me, doesn't she want my happiness, her only daughter slash child's happiness.
"Mom the kids have a mind of their own now__they will get bored and want to go home, this ain't their home" I reminded mom
"This is their home" she retorted sternly.
"Mom," I called harshly taking my mom aback "I don't want to do anything I would regret, my kids will never forgive me if I ever take them from their Dad"
"Take who from Dad" Obosa asked standing right behind us.
When did she get here.
"No one is taking anyone from anybody" I told my daughter forcing a smile.
"Mom, you look so beautiful" Genzebe voice came floating in the air, she was standing behind Obosa now.
"Thank you" I replied her smiling, the smile now reaching my face.
"Dad's here" Oghosa said barging in. He walked closer to us with an astonished look on his face. "Mom you look breathtaking"
I heard my mother chuckle.
"Dad's so gonno be pussy whipped"
The shocked look on my mother's face matched mine, I was sure about that. Oghosa wasn't much of a talker, but when he spoke, we turn heads.
Dad need to see you in your full regalia momma bear" he held my hands c'mon ma" he said and started tucking me forward.
"I can't wait to see the look on that old man's face"
I stopped a laugh that was forcing it way out my throat. My mom turned and left us murmuring God knows what. I knew she wasn't happy about the kind of words coming out from Oghosa's mouth. I smiled nevertheless and followed my kids out my bedroom, moving down stairs hoping Ikay likes what I was wearing tonight.
